Misa Amane is a perfect example of a character whose actions people cannot fathom being wrongfully deemed poorly written or unrealistic. Also, a perfect example of how "pathetic" central characters are inherently deemed poorly written.
A lot of people will talk about how Misa's unhealthy fixation on Light is unrealistic but we see many cases in the real world of attractive women who fawn and fixate over serial killers even after they've been imprisoned.
Given Light brought justice to her parent's killers, is the most notorious mass murderer in the world and attractive - it is not at all hard to believe an insecure woman with psychopathic tendencies would be fixated on him. Unlike many irl cases his actions also impacted her life directly beforehand too so that fixation would likely be stronger.
Now, I'm not saying she's an incredible character I'm simply pointing out the main criticisms against her are idiotic. It's the entire point of the character and you not being able to understand there are individuals who don't act rationally doesn't make them poorly written. Other aspects like her lack of importance in the second half of the story is fair criticism.
Now, it brings me to another point. Pathetic characters often have a bias against them in being deemed poorly written by fans. The Deep is one of the few examples I can think of where that isn't the case - but he's a comedic relief character for the most part. Usually, a serious pathetic character must grow for them not to be deemed poorly written (like Theon) are there any examples you can think of, of a serious central pathetic character who is well-written. I'm sure there are but I can't think of one right now.
Edit: Joffrey is a good example. But I guess using the rich powerful kid examples are the cheat code for this.
Jensen provides a better explanation than "it's what Clara would have wanted".
Why can metalbenders bend liquid mercury but not platinum? If the bending is based on bending the impurities.
reddit.comWhy do people think Kuvira is so powerful? She lost to the weakest member of the red lotus and only beat Korra when she was mentally vulnerable.
Seeing takes like:
- Aang wouldn't beat Kuvira.
- Kuvira would beat Ozai.
- Kuvira is stronger than the Red Lotus members.
- Kuvira is one of the strongest earthbenders.
Like where do you ever get this idea?
What made her dangerous was her military and influence.
What was the point of this dramatic ending if S5 was filiming at the same time and they knew Annie just tells them to get lost?

Avatar fans complain about the constant hate and toxicity for Korra but happily do the same to Mako.
No consistency there. So how can you try and paint those who bash Korra any different to what you do. Don't you see the irony?
Praise Asami but she is even more boring than Mako.
Mark should let Immortal live with the viltrumites at the end of the series.
He will be living with others whose lives last thousands of years.
Immortal spoke about the damage watching people die did to him mentally. This can definitely help. Sure they will still die and he will live on but this is thousands of years later.
Eve will still live too so there's at least someone he'll know.
Mark letting Immortal continue to rule Earth at the end is a major gripe I have. Maybe he rules for some time then Mark takes him to their planet.
