Monkey & Coconuts up the Palm tree (restoration-in-hand)

Was given this toy for my 6th Birthday in 1949, and have had it ever since then. The paper leaves had disintegrated over the years and are now replaced.

The operating principle was that the monkey was connected by string to a weight within the trunk of the tree, which when the monkey was at the base and let go, propelled the monkey up the tree to knock a 'lead' coconut into its arms so that the additional weight propelled the monkey down the tree to the base where the coconut fell into a dish and the lightened monkey shot up the tree to grab another coconut and repeat the process for as many times as there were coconuts in the ledge beneath the leaves.

No batteries, no clockwork ..... just gravity in action!
