Thinking of protecting our culture is good thing. But it also necessary to learn good thing from other cultures as well and modernize ours to give equal competition to other cultures.

You can observe these kind of argument from politicians of south asia, Middle eastern countries and most part of Africa. They always be performative like we should protect our culture. But when you look deeply at it you will realize it's more like brainwashing us to keep us away from having good quality of life meanwhile those politicians are lobbied by the same western culture they oppose.

Perfect example is US. US is built to this level mostly due to it's immigrants. In countries like Srilanka there are many restrictions. Only corrupt and people with connections can perform well. And when it is questioned they hide behind culture and use it as sheild. So people who want to improve there life moved to US. So it's basically we are losing our brain in the name of protecting culture but in actual we are more like protecting what British created us to be during the victorian era.

Improving our culture, adapting to modern values and modifying our culture according to it is very important. Perfect example is french revolution. During french revolution other countries had outdated monarchy system meanwhile new france was able to convince it's people that it's for people. So people french side fought for themselves meanwhile in rest of Europe soldier fought for kings. People always give their best and even ready to sacrifice themselves, if it's for them. That made terrifying force.

So we should improve our culture instead of keeping some backward values

If I am not wrong we have criticism against countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, nepal and Maldives. They also have on us. But we or them don't play victim card of racism. We all accept the criticism or refuse with proper argument
