Growing Eastern Prickly Pear in Home Garden?

Wondering if anyone has experience growing Eastern Prickly Pear in their garden. It's a native plant but it is considered endangered in the wild. I don't recall seeing it at garden centers.

Can I plant prickly pear in my home garden? And if I do plant it, will I be able to take it out again if we relandscape? (sometimes you're not allowed to disturb endangered plants)

Seeking Canadian bamboo toilet paper

I've been transitioning to bamboo toilet paper for environmental reasons. I've tried Caboo and RollUp so far, which are both Canadian brands although I don't believe they manufacture in Canada.

I found a brand called Luusso but it doesn't look like they ship to Ontario and haven't seen it in any stores.

Looking for your POV on these Canadian brands, as well as any other Canadian eco friendly TP brands you love.

Do we have brown recluse spiders in Ontario or not?

I am a camper and I have friends who go backwoods camping as well. I've heard that we have brown recluse spiders in Ontario but I don't know anyone who's ever encountered a true brown recluse.

the avoidant nature of these insects lends well to urban legend. The fact that they are poisonous and also expert hiders makes them a perfect boogeyman (if they don't actually exist here). I am wondering if the Ontario Brown Recluse sightings are just oral tradition and an urban legend, like Nessie and Bigfoot, or if we really do have them here.

If we do have Brown Recluse spiders in Ontario, where do they reside?

I have been diligently working through a host of complications regarding publicly funded in-home care for a senior relative in Ontario. It took over a year of complaining (well over a year) to have my concerns taken seriously, but I've finally got some traction and I want to pass on what I've learned so other families can be heard. I know how frustrating it is, trust me.

I'm trusting the algo will bring this to the Redditor or Googler who is looking for information on how to file a complaint about in-home PSW care from companies like SRT MedStaff in Ontario.

  1. Contact your MPP and detail clearly what you are experiencing and make some demands. This really shouldn't be no. 1 but it was my first step. We have all been trained to expect nothing from our MPPs, but I will say that mine was very helpful (but not on my first try.) https://www.ola.org/en/members/current
    1. Contact the Minister of Long-Term Care and CC your MPP. via the website, "You will receive a reply to let you know that the ministry has received your complaint. The director will pass your complaint to an inspector who will look into the matter." mltc.correspondence[@]ontario.ca
  2. Submit a written complaint to Ontario Health At Home and continue to follow up in writing as infractions continue. Your coordinator can help, but their power is limited in my experience. Don't rely on verbal complaints alone - document it in writing via email. We complained verbally with our coordinator but the most effective and substantial change took place once we began documenting our experience in writing. In my experience, our ON@H patient relations team have been very responsive and our coordinator is very engaged.
    1. If you plan to escalate, you must go through this channel before the Patient Ombudsman will take on your complaint.
    2. Ask your coordinator for the patient relations email, and CC your coordinator on the email. https://ontariohealthathome.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ESC-Feedback-Complaints-Appeals-home-and-community-care-EN.pdf
    3. If you are complaining about S.R.T Med-Staff or another agency in Toronto Central area, here is your contact info: 416-506-9888 ext. 2525 / TC.ClientExperience[@]ontariohealthathome.ca
  3. Contact the Ontario patient ombudsman. The Ombudsman is the last line of defense and they will only act when all other channels are exhausted... In my case, I complained to the ombudsman first as the agencies were stonewalling us and our coordinator had run out of options. The ombudsman responded and directed me to a complaints team within Ontario Health At Home, and I pushed a little more for ombudsman support on my case, and they followed up with the ON@H case manager to facilitate a review. I believe this helped me get heard at the appropriate level. https://patientombudsman.ca/Complaints/Make-a-Complaint
  4. Request the services of an independent complaints facilitator through the Long-Term Care Family Support and Action Line: 1-866-876-7658
