Online Biology Tutoring – 1-on-1 Sessions with an MS-Level Biologist

Hi everyone! I'm offering online biology tutoring for high school and college students.

Topics I cover include: Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Animal Behavior, and Biotechnology.

Sessions are flexible and tailored to what you actually need – whether that's exam prep, working through a specific concept, or ongoing support through the semester. Bring your lecture slides, homework, or a list of topics you're shaky on and we'll build from there.

Sessions start at $10 for 30 minutes. DM me if you're interested or have questions!

Offering horror beta reading!

Hi everyone! Horror is my favorite genre to read, and I've become very interested in beta reading lately. I can already tell that there are incredibly creative writers in this subreddit, so I'd love to read your manuscripts as someone who genuinely loves this genre :)

I've already beta read an erotic horror short story and a gothic horror novel, and I'm familiar with what the genre tends to ask of a book: dread that builds and pays off, an atmosphere that stays pressed in close, tension that climbs at the right moments, and an ending that sticks the landing. I'll be direct about what's landing for me, and I'll also point out where the energy drops or the suspense starts to thin.

If you're working on something and want a fresh set of genre-savvy eyes on it, please feel free to drop a comment or send me a DM!

First LUSH product in a decade

I (25F) used to be OBSESSED with LUSH back in high school. I had quite the collection of skin care, bath bombs, shower gels, all the works. I have fond memories of using these products, especially the ones that I’ve come to learn that are no longer made (looking at you, Aqua Marina and Queen Bee). I’ve only now realized that I was draining my parents’ wallets and ruining their plumbing. Whoops.

In the years since, I’ve gone to college/grad school and worked part-time jobs just to get me through school. The extent of the self-care that I could afford was a cheap, drug store facial cleanser and, if I really was in the mood to splurge, Dr. Teal’s bubble bath.

I now have my master’s degree, but due to the current state of the job market, my work and financial situation still isn’t the greatest. The stress has been causing major breakouts on my face (not helped by the fact that I pick my skin as an anxious habit). It felt kind of embarrassing to go out in public with the state of my skin.

Last weekend, I met up with a friend at the mall because I needed to get out, and, girls being girls, we go into the LUSH store. My friend was ready to leave after looking at a couple products, but I felt like I was 15 again! I wanted to smell EVERYTHING. I also decided while I was there that I was going to treat myself to Herbalism, a product I had used years ago, because my face desperately needed it.

It’s now been about 4 days of using Herbalism and ohhhhhh my goodness the difference in my skin is night and day. The angry, oily skin has almost completely calmed down. I also really appreciate the exfoliating properties because having no dead skin on my face gives me nothing to pick at! It feels so good to be able to go out and be confident in my appearance for the first time in a long time.

If you read this far, I appreciate you reading my love letter to this product. Even though I’m broke as a joke, I will probably keep using Herbalism (and I’d also buy Cynthia Sylvia Stout if it was brought back. A girl can dream). Hopefully I will get a full-time position soon and be able to explore more LUSH products again!

Will this pivot in my job search help?

Hi everyone,

I just completed my MS in Biotechnology in May, and I am deep into my job search. I am at well over 100 applications at this point.

I have been trying to look for bioinformatics/data analysis roles, as I’d been building an R package for ecological workflows for my graduate research. Additionally, I really enjoyed the bioinformatics course that I took. However, I have had zero luck getting any interviews. For context, I’m a US citizen willing to relocate practically anywhere in the US.

I think my issue is lack of experience for roles requiring advanced degrees, while also being overqualified on paper for truly entry-level roles? Many research roles require a PhD at the minimum now. I also never did any internships, and I also pivoted slightly from my bachelor’s focus in ecology and animal behavior.

It might also be fair to mention that I have cerebral palsy which affects my fine-motor dexterity for my right hand. My lab partner (sweetest person ever) was so patient with me and helped me learn wet-lab skills at my own pace, but it’s clearly not my strong suit.

After taking a step back and reanalyzing my career search, I have refocused my efforts into looking for life sciences consulting roles. I’ve looked into it, and this kind of career might actually be a really good fit for me. I did very well in school, so I definitely have the scientific knowledge. Plus, I wouldn’t necessarily have to do bench work. I just want to know if this is worthwhile, and should I be able to get interviews soon? Additionally, if anyone has good advice for searching for roles in this field, I’d greatly appreciate it. TIA!

The other driver tried so hard to frame me on this one

All I had to do was turn into the parking lot of that hospital right there for a hiring event💀 just the cherry on top of a very difficult job search. I’m just glad no one got hurt and my car is still drivable

UPDATE! The other driver’s insurance is accepting liability for the crash and is paying for repairs and the rental car
