Affordable Early Funk Singles

I am trying to build up my collection of early Funk vinyl. I like the grittier stuff from the late 60s and early 70s. Buying James Brown, Fat Back Band etc has been easy as they are cheap and readily available. But as I have delved deeper into the rarer stuff I have been shocked by some of the prices, high hundreds sometimes even into the thousands for a 7 inch single.

I know there are still plenty of old funk 7's that are affordable, and I am gradually digging them out. But I was wondering what tunes my fellow Reddit Funk aficionados recommend. I am looking for funk singles under $100.

Help identifying Hallmark

I have recently bought this pair of what I believe are bonbon dishes. I believe they may be Samuel Wood and 18th Century. They weigh 400g together and although they appear identical, one of them is 10g heavier than the other.

Can somebody please help me identify the year and maker and also give me an idea on what the are worth, please?

How Clever are Pigeons?

My wife has several water bowls of different sizes and heights to feed the animals who come into our garden. We have a couple of pigeons who love one particular bowl, and really like to splash about.

Recently we had been out at a wedding and my wife forgot to fill the bowls for a couple of days, we have been having a heatwave here in the UK so they had nearly dried out. We heard a tapping noise and there was a pigeon tapping the glass of the back doors. This reminded my wife to fill the bowls, after which the pigeons did their usual splash bath routine.

Was the pigeon really telling us to fill the bowls or is it just a coincidence?

Holliday Inn Filthy Hotel Bathroom - Is it Worth Complaining

We stayed at a Holiday Inn here in the UK on Friday night. It was close to the venue of friends wedding, so we literally turned up, changed clothes and left, then returned later that night and just crashed out.

It wasn't until the next morning that we realised the state that the bathroom was in. The whole thing was tired and old, but that I can live with. What was shocking was the ingrained dirt, the recent water marks, the mould on the shower curtain (the fact that it had a shower curtain in 2026) and what looked like a blood stain.

We wanted to get on our way home so we complained to the front desk but didn't wait around for staff to rectify the problem.

I am not usually one to complain but we did pay £165 for one night, there was a Premier Inn just up the road, which was cheaper. But we paid more because the hotel had air conditioning, and appeared to be of a better standard. The fact is we paid more for a better experience and were let down.

I feel that we should be compensated for such a poor experience, so is it worth me reaching out to IHG? Somebody suggested I email the CEO, but I don't have his email address (it's not on linkedin). Will I get anywhere? Or should I just put it down to experience and not book with IHG again (I have stayed in other IHG hotels and they have been fine).
