Making engaging turret sections in Dark Ages

This is just my opinion; feel free to disagree. When it comes to the turret sections (yes, I know there are very few) believe TDA could have taken a cue from other games. I guess they knew how boring they were, that's why they limited them to but a few encounters. But they didn't have to be.

Here's the easy solution. The turret CAN be detached. However, if detached, you have limited ammo. That way, you decide: unlimited ammo but fixed position, or freedom of movement but limited ammo and no shield (perhaps the turret itself could absorb some of the damage).

And by having more turrets scattered throughout the game, they could have worked as a temporary power-up. Get in the turret, take it off, and lay waste to the demons.

Anyone who loves Margaret Rutherford's portrayal of Miss Marple?

I am guilty of preferring her Miss Marple for all the "wrong" reasons. I love how energic her character is and how "op" she ends up being. She is a Miss Marple who can climb up walls, ride a horse, engage people in a fencing duel etc, and her character manages to get away with such a departure from her book counterpart because she doesn't take herself seriously. Idk. I love her.

Interesting roach encounter I had an hour ago or so

Found on top of my car's roof. For a moment, I feared they were German roaches, but thankfully, the lack of black stripes, finding them outside the car, and the fact that they didn't scurry as quickly as the German ones made me feel relieved. Still can't be sure of the species, though, so in case somebody knew them, I'd love to know! They were first spotted in Quartucciu, Sardinia. They seem to have transparent wings, so I assume they're adults, and they were very small; that's why I thought of german roaches at first. Could they be an Ectobius species?

Why the final act is a disappointment SPOILERS

>!Ok. So after the "recap" Caine starts to realize he shouldn't be speaking because he was deleted and I thought "cool self-aware moment!". Too bad that, not even three minutes later we learn that Kinger just conjured a computer out of thin air and restored Caine! What a copout. But the issues don't stop here. In an attempt to surprise us all, they decided to change Caine's behavior and make him reveal to Ragatha that he's.... *drums rolling*... her MOTHER! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Where were the clues? When was any of this established? Let's not talk about how Kaufmo's jokes were so bad they apparently caused Ribbit to abstract... TWICE!!<

>!Oh... and guess what? Apparently Pomni's lack of memories of the human world was not a coincidence at all. And, to be fair, the concept behind this next reveal was admittedly cool, but the execution? Eww. Because Pomni is an AI born from Ribbit and Jax! Yeah, you heard right. Where did they take this idea? From some cringe wattpad fanfic?!<

>!Now. Credit where it's due. Having all the abstractions roaming around was quite cool and scary. Kinger entering into his wife, turning sane and restoring her to Queenie was a nice touch. But they never bothered to explain how he managed to distinguish her from all other abstractions. Oh and pomni abstracts too. Just like that. No explanation given. Jax didn't even tell her that he was her "father" so... yeah.!<

>!I did appreciate the final battle between all the combined abstractions into the Abstractiomination, and Caine + Able. Thec fact that Scratch's abstraction was the one controlling that mecha version of a combo-abstraction was pretty neat and seeing Caine and Abel putting their differences aside to fught their creator was awesome. But then? We see all human characters waking up! As in, in real life? And before you think that there is some explanation given, I will spare you the struggle. NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER!!<

>!They just woke up in a random hospital, far from whatever building had the VR. No clue about how they survived with no food or water, or if they were absorbed by the VR device abd whatnot. !<

>!Overall 1/5 stars. Cool final battle. The rest was awful. !<

Switching Rocka and Evo's characters in Breakout (part 2)

This is a second part of sorts from the previous post.

Essentially, Rocka and Evo get their character arcs switched in the Breakout storyline, right after the Breakout happens.

In the previous post, I pointed out how Rocka panicking (rather than Evo) would have been better. And Evo's cold and silent behavior would have drawn Zib's attention more plausibly.

HOWEVER! Back then, I didn't think of many other points which make this character switch-up even better!

- Rocka's unaddressed failure.

It never occurred to me that, had Rocka been more careful, Voltixx wouldn't have been able to carry all that energy within himself and kickstart the whole breakout. Let's even assume that Rocka followed all protocols and that Voltixx simply found a way to store that energy without triggering any of the controls to check if a villain who uses electricity as a main weapon/gimmick was actually depowered. Even then, wouldn't any hero still blame themselves if they had been the one to bring Voltixx? Well, not Rocka.

Not only that: he works for the HRT! "Investigating info we had on a possible attack." Well, a job well done, Rocka. *slow clap* Heck, he even states that they concluded that the villains wanted the Black Hole Staff in the Hero Factory as part of a larger plan! And he's the one who brings Voltixx to the vault XD.

But everything gets solved by switching Rocka and Evo's characters!

Right after learning that Voltixx had tricked him into catching him and seeing all the villains escape, Rocka freaks out. And what does he get in return? Stormer briefly lashes out and calls him "rookie".

Then, we could have gotten a slightly different exchange between Rocka and Furno, who reassures him and adds that it could have happened to anyone, as it's clear that Voltixx must have carefully planned this escape. Still, Rocka feels insecure about himself and what's the right thing to do makes so much more sense, now that his failure is at the very least addressed. So when he learns to believe in himself and defeats Toxic Reapa, Rocka has finally reached balance. Before, he was too smug (even after Savage Planet), then he had a short personal crisis where he doubted himself too much. And when he finally went for it, he finally grew as a character and into a more mature hero.

In the meantime, Evo, the hero we only briefly saw in Ordeal of Fire, acts all weird and mysterious, which draws Zib and the audience's attention. I'm sure nobody believed that Rocka would have turned out to be a traitor, no matter how they tried to make him look suspicious. But a hero we didn't see that much? Someone whom we know very little of? That works better.

And just as Evo seems to be too OP, too perfect, too professional... we learn of his biggest weakness. A crippling fear of creepy crawlies! Him getting overwhelmed by the Arachnix drones would provide a moment of hilarity and let his character break free from the stoic and cold archetype we saw in Ordeal of Fire. Also, this could also be a reason why he didn't show up in Savage Planet. He could have been pretty aware of his limits and knew that he wouldn't have operated as efficiently as he usually does.

And one more thing. The line Rocka says to Black Phantom, "Just doing my job" sounds so much more fitting for Evo, if you think about it. Heck, Rocka was so smug at the beginning of Breakout but you see him fighting Black Phantom and he doesn't even act like he usually does. Sure, it could be because the situation was extremely serious and whatnot.

But think if Evo said it instead. That could have been his whole character summed up. Black Phantom wondering if he's no ordinary hero, and all Evo has to say is that he's just doing his job. While he's cold like Kopaka, I think Evo was always a team player and always respected hierarchy (unlike Rocka, who was super competitive with a more seasoned hero like Furno in Savage Planet), so I like to think that he's pretty humble too.

TLDR: Switching Rocka and Evo's character arcs right after the Breakout happens would have provided a more interesting humbling arc for Rocka, given the spotlight to Evo showing us a few hidden quirky traits of his, and further developed both characters in a more organic way.

I love how versatile this old piece is! Feel free to use them for your own mocs btw.

Some of them were previously featured in this post and this post.

A crappy drawing to exorcise the current situation. Dead adult cockroach in my room (old house, and we can't figure out where they get in, since there could be a lot of different entrances), and my sleep schedule is going to be further messed up.
