Calling my kids

When my children are with their father, every other week, it feels very uncomfortable to call them. When the phone is picked up, no one says hello and it seems that the kids don’t really know what’s going on because I hear them asking questions like “what” “what is it daddy”. I gather that their father just picks up and passes them the phone without saying anything. Sometimes if he’s in the middle of doing something with them, he keeps doing it, almost as if he’s distracting them from talking to me. I usually even send a text before calling to let their father know that I’ll be calling, because I understand that his time (with them), does not revolve around my desire to speak to the children and I understand if he tells me that they’ll call me back if the time that I’m calling is not a good time. That has happened. My phone calls with the kids are very short; usually just like a check-in; “How was your day?…Good night I love you.” They are 7 and 10. I know that around last year when my oldest used to tell his father that he wanted to call me for something and their father did not want them to share certain things with me, he would threaten to punish them. I do feel like at this age, children should be guided on many things, including phone etiquette and respect for their parents. They don’t necessarily disrespect me, but at times they seem annoyed to speak to me, which I understand is part of being a child, but it almost seems like it’s encouraged by their father whereas when he calls, I make sure that all distractions are put aside and that they speak to their father in a respectful way. I’m not doing it for him. I’m just raising my kids. Does anyone have experience with this either as a mother or as a child of divorce? Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated. TIA

Child support

Got divorced 3yrs ago. 50/50 was ordered and agreed to but ex husband never did it til this year. He did it bc I took him to court for all the back and forth about doing 50/50 then not actually doing it. The kids schedule became a makeshift schedule and was unstable. I had Legalaid but they would only advise me and not represent me in court so I looked for another attorney who’s now representing me pro bono, thankfully. I’m now trying to get back child support for the time the kid’s father wasn’t doing 50/50 but was paying as if he was. Bc I was on food stamp recently apparently the DOR is involved. My attorney seems to want to leave it up to them. But the DOR is telling me that I have to have an order from the judge that they can enforce. When we went back to court the judge made a verbal ruling. This was back in May. My attorney finally got us a hearing in Aug to iron out some details in the final order that were not addressed before. My attorney seems to want the judge to decide if they’ll be arrears. The kids father said in open court that he didn’t do 50/50. I didn’t stop him bc in the past he would have the kids after school for a few hrs and wouldn’t keep them overnight, he would only do so every other weekend, and that’s after I insisted he does that. At first he was only seeing the kids 2 days and overnight per month. There were times when I told him to return the kids to me bc I didn’t want them to be left w just anyone. He was always a loner until recently so I was worried who he he’d leave the kids with if he did 50/50. Either way from what I understand he could have kept them bc it was his right. Anyone have been thru something similar? What did u or your attorney do? I don’t want to lose the money he should pay for the kids in back child support. The kids are enrolled in sports, which is not cheap and their standard of living has gone down w me. I used to be a SAHM and I’m climbing my way back up the workforce now. He makes 3x what I make.
