My son’s first system

Good morning all. I’m looking to build out a basic system for my 8 year old son. Can any of you recommend an integrated amp that can—and here’s the kicker—drive a pair of power hungry B&W 683 S2s, ideally for less than $500? The only inputs I need are a coaxial and a USB.

DAC/preamp volume control

For those of you with a preamp and DAC with preamp capabilities: do you normally keep your DAC volume at 100% and use your preamp knob to control the volume? Of not, why not?

God tier audiophile setup

After years of research and saving, I finally built my end game system. Glad to have arrived here, as it’s felt like my own personal Odyssey.

What am I missing to get that "Fujifilm look" in my photos?

Shot on an XT-3 with XF 23mm. All photos have been edited using Adobe Lightroom.

I've tried different film simulations, recipes, mist filters, and edited as little as possible, but my images still feel... dull. They seem to lack that cinematic, straight out of camera magic that people always talk about. There seems to be little color, no warmth, no sense of personality, it looks sterile.

  • Are there any common mistakes that stop photos from looking "Fuji"?
  • Is it mostly lighting, composition, lenses, recipes, post-processing, or just experience?

I'd really appreciate any honest feedback or advice. Maybe rating my photos would help? I'm new to photography and I'm really open to advice! I'm trying to understand what I'm missing rather than just collecting more recipes.

Thanks!

Byggy love and…confusion?

So, I received the Byggy, coming off of a Gungnir 2 that has found a home in my office as a DAC position opened up there.

You’re read this all before, but I can’t believe how detailed this thing is, how great the soundstage is, etc. However…I also find it somewhat fatiguing, particularly with certain headphones (e.g. the Hifiman he1000se—less so with the HD800 and even less so with the 660S).

Have any of you had this same experience and, if so, does it eventually resolve? I’ve read several posts where owners claimed they let the thing run for 3-5 weeks before it “blossomed,” but that’s always seemed absurd to me.

Unless of course it’s true, in which case it’s not.

I know this is hopeless

But if any of you good people find a switch 2 console in a black hard case in the Oak Street area please let me know.

Edit: if you find it and return it to me there’s a $300 reward.

I’ll try to be brief. One of my kids dropped an iPad mini onto the floor. Before I could get it repaired another kid pushed down on a crack and did *this*. This is a 5th gen mini.

  1. Is it repairable? 2. If it is, is it worth repairing?
