What helped you stop drinking?

Or your preferred substance of choice if it wasn’t alcohol.

I’m recently diagnosed and have a long history of problematic drinking.
I can go long periods without it but when life gets tough I usually go back to using alcohol problematically for a short while.

I’ve tried lots of different things to help me stop completely but I haven’t found the right way for me yet.

I’ve learned that autistic people are more likely to have substance use issues - so I’m wondering if you’ve successfully stopped, what have you found that helped you?

Warning Signs of a ‘High Control Group’

I’m reading a book on Autism and how we’re more susceptible to manipulation by ‘High Control Groups’ or cults.
(Also more likely to self medicate with substances too, sadly).

I was wondering how many of these apply to 12-Step. I think they all do, to varying degrees.

Manul Pilgrimage to see Akiko and Duchess @ Edinburgh Zoo

1, 2, 3 & 4 are Akiko
5 is Duchess.

We were lucky to arrive close to a Manul feeding session.

Akiko was evident, much to the adoration of his observers. We were even lucky enough for him to chatter (ekek) at us (picture 4).

Duchess is a new arrival of only a couple of weeks as part of a breeding programme, and is related to our own spicy Queen Polly 🌈.

She was much more elusive and only appeared momentarily (picture 5) when she was disturbed by the keeper looking for her in her own, separate enclosure.

Duchess joins Akiko at Edinburgh Zoo

Finally, female Duchess, joins Akiko at Edinburgh Zoo to begin a Scottish breeding program 😺🥳

I can’t wait to visit them and hope for many, many healthy Minuls

Piccanto passes me in the overtaking lane with a modified Zafira behind almost bumper-to-bumper, and wiggling to the side impatiently, while Piccanto completes the manoeuvre at an appropriate speed and pulls back in. ‘Jeb-end’ - I think to myself, about the Zafira driver.

5 minutes later I see a plume of smoke in the distance engulfing my side of the motorway, as I get closer I realise it’s coming from the same Zafira on the hard shoulder, bonnet open, Deano in his high vis at the embankment.
