Her own daughter studied in the US and, like many children of India's privileged and professional class, had access to opportunities outside India. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Studying abroad, working abroad or seeking a better life elsewhere isn't anti-national.

But then shouldn't we also ask the other side of the question?

Why are young Indians being asked to put the nation first, while the people running the country aren't held to the same standard of asking themselves what they're doing to make India a place where young people want to stay, build careers and raise families?

The issue isn't one politician's family. It's the double standard in the rhetoric.

Patriotism shouldn't mean telling ordinary young Indians to sacrifice their opportunities for the country. It should also mean creating a country where contributing to it is genuinely rewarding.

So, I was hunting for a car around the 17–18L mark. Test drove the Duster, Seltos, Elevate, Sierra. Nearly locked in the Seltos automatic, but on the day I was about to book, I took a detour to a Mahindra showroom. Test drove the XUV, and it blew me away. I stretched my budget by 3L and went for the AX5 diesel automatic. Initially, I wanted an AX3, but that had a 6-month wait. Luckily, they had one AX5 in white, ready in 7 days. Booked it immediately. Now, I’ve got this fantastic vehicle, exactly what I needed, didn’t care for sunroofs anyway. Didn’t see the need for the AX7 either. Couldn’t be happier. Just sold my old car and enjoying the ride!
