Be honest - online classes never really felt like actual classes, did they?

Whether you’ve taught or attended classes virtually, something always felt off. I’m doing UX research on exactly that - what works, what doesn’t, and what could be better. Would love your honest take. No right or wrong answers, won’t take more than 2 mins. Teachers, students, working professionals - all welcome!

Transitioning from Graphic Design → Product Design (3 yrs exp, India)

Hi everyone,
I’m currently working as a graphic/visual designer at an e-commerce product company in India (\~3 years). My role also involves marketing strategy and occasional app section redesigns, so I’ve had some exposure to product thinking.

I’m planning to transition into a full-fledged product design role and would appreciate guidance on:

  1. Transition strategy
What gaps should I focus on closing (UX research, systems thinking, case studies, etc.)?
How to position my current experience when applying?
  2. Portfolio expectations
How many strong case studies are typically needed to break in?
Is redesigning existing products acceptable if done deeply?
  3. Salary expectations (India)
With \~3 years of adjacent experience, what range is realistic for entry-level product roles?
  4. Courses / bootcamps
Considering short-term programs like NextLeap or DesignBoat - are they actually helpful for outcomes?

Would really value insights from people who’ve made a similar switch or hire for these roles. Thanks!
