Strongholds and Followers

Morning all from the UK

I am running Night Below, party averaging 4th to 5th level currently near end of book 1. All being well, they will hit mid-teens and as per rules they get strongholds & followers around about 9th level.

I've never done that side of things before, as players we were never really that bothered, but want to give the opportunity to my group but not just give it to them easily so wondered if people have any ideas on how to do it?

Example: Party just about to enter a dwarven mining camp in the Blanryde Hills, party cleric is specialist cleric of Marthammor Duin, so was thinking of the camp having no clerics but a couple younger dwarves intrigued by the party clerics actions etc?

Also would you give every player a stronghold to be fair, or just those that have the opportunity?

Rest of the party is a Half-elf Mymiddon kit Fighter, Human Bard, Gnome Illussionist/Cleric and Elven Fighter.Mage

Thanks for listening

Night Below: Pace vs Urgency

Hi all

So interesting situation .... party has just finished Broken Spire Keep and are moving onto Garlstone mines. I have changed it a bit so they can't find door till after the mines, but the party are heavily roleplay-centric so are very much 'We need to keep going and find Jelenneth' but also need training, resupply etc.

Apart from kicking their arse and sending them running back, any idea how to slow their motivation but without it coming across as deliberate progress block by the DM? They are 4/4 to 5th but will struggle with the first few encounters in book 2 and not sure the Sverbelin saying 'come back in a week' will flow well with them

Regard

Hi all

I've been using my AD&D 2nd Edition DM screens but found it a bit of a pain having info on both sides etc so I bolught some generic, blank DM screens with pockets. Means I can put pages from Monstrous Compendium in, have easy access to a map but leaves 2 to 3 blank, A4 pockets that I was hoping to put some reference material in like saves, weapon speeds, AC's etc.

Apart from Googling for images and screenshotting them, anyone know of a simple reference sheets that I can have a look at?

Thanks in advance

Edit: Knocked this up in Adobe as a first draft:

Hi all

I know the wizard skeleton in the second level has the ring that draws demons to it, hence the keep got massacred in the first place, but is there anything in the campaign to explain it?

My party is in the keep and has promised to look into it for Count Palfray but only thing I have seen is the ring. Withough giving away its curse too early, is there any other evidence? The information about the crypt just seems to add to the mystery, not clarify it.

Thanks in advance

HI all

Party just doing Broken Spire keep before heading eventually to Garlstone Mines. In prep, started reading book 2 and the party are basically advised to go away and come back in a week to 12 days.

Doesn't seem to be any indication of expected party level to start fighting the first few encounters, starting with the trolls I can see, so is there any info on that I missed or somewhere else or is it a case of 'play it by ear'?

Regards

Hi all

So I've returned to DM AD&D after 20+ years and chose Night Below as the dungeon to run. Mix of old friends returning to our favourite system, and new players trying it. Campaign going well, did my own prequel so party is ranging from, 3/3 to 5th as they've entered Broken Spire Keep.

Last night was primarily the gnome illussionist/thief scouting out invisibly the layout, dodging guards, falling and waking the dogs, sleeping the guards in the tower (I added an extra one) to hear them crashing thorugh the floorboards and generally party trying to figure out how to get in before they all managed to sneak down to the lower level undetected and fight Ranchefus.

Party still down there, bard is leading guards a merry chase through the woods with Oleanna's help, but as an assault on the keep the whole plan of the keep and difficulty just emphasised to players how tough it is and they friggin loved it.

I currently play Dragonlance 5e and its ok, but you never feel the need to really plan or strategise as everyone can do everything. Even 3.5 which I ran till recently, you can get away with other characters covering scouting etc.

The players last night always felt they had to be careful, there was tension between the gnome and elf who just wanted to start shooting people. Even the party discovering patches of oil in the courtyard bought exclamations of 'fucking cnuts, there guys know what they are doing'

Loved it, definitely 10/10 session

Thanks for listening

Morning all from the UK, hoping someone can help

Been trying to set up dual servers on my home server for MIMECAST with parent/child clusters to allow movement between with no luck whatsoever.

I can set them up indidually with no issues so I know all my port forwarding is fine, but when setting as parent/child I can either not access either server or only the child. When loigging in I get booted straight back with 'Server not available'

Login and Server passwords are same on both servers so I know its not that, so has someone got any screenies of sample cluster & server settings I can compare too? I've included screen shot of the master and child clusters

Hope you can help!!
