Before and after finding a pile of raccoon poop… She was having the time of her life.
She did not enjoy the cold hose bath in the driveway but I had absolutely no sympathy.
My chickens are smarter than I give them credit for. They’re actually using their new nesting boxes.
Just picked up these vintage galvanized nesting boxes. In the first 2 days, 26 of 27 eggs were laid in the nesting boxes.
His floppy ears are my absolute favorite!
I love his floppy ears when he comes running for food or scratches.
I have a thing for old BUTLER grain bins. Getting our chickens moved into their new home.
Finishing touches on our Kunekune huts
And our younger gilt Daisy is smitten with our boar “Boaris”.
Heck of a deal on feed, as long as you buy it in 2,000lb totes.
Hog feed for 15¢/lb and layer feed for 17¢/lb. Nearly a year worth of feed for 5 kunekunes and 20 layers for $680.
Edit: I picked up 14 food grade 55gallon drums with removable lids from Facebook marketplace for safe storage.
A face only a mother could love. Meet 'Tank'.
We got a kunekune “starter set”. A boar, bred sow, and a gilt. All registered. Along with two barrows. It was a busy weekend getting ready for them. They’re getting settled into their new 1/4 acre enclosure.

She’s growing up too fast! 11,15, & 19 weeks old.
Also, we knew her hair would change color. But we’re still surprised how quickly it did!
She was a pampered suburban dog until we bought a farm last fall. She’s adapting well.
Bare field to our first cutting. Turning a corn field back into pasture.
We used barley and oats as a nurse crop for our prairie/pasture project.
Anticlimactic bin drop. Marketplace find for our animal feed.
When we showed up we found out the sellers loader wouldn’t start, I didn’t have the right sockets to unbolt it from the pad, and it was tucked way back where I couldn’t really get my trailer. Turned into quite the adventure but we got it loaded with some ingenuity. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Something fun to do while mom and dad work on boring farm projects.
3 boys. 3 mini bikes. What could go wrong? First aid kit is at the ready…
Major soil amending this weekend.
Pretty much all clay where we wanted to put our garden. We added 24 tons of top soil, 10 tons of compost, and 15 tons of composted manure. Special thank you to my neighbor for the composted manure.
