Royal Australian Mint

The Royal Australian Mint increased the price to press your own $1 C mintmark coin from $3 to $5 at the start of the new financial year in July.

The official reason given for the price rise is the high cost of maintaining the older press machinery. The timing makes it feel more like a scheduled budget adjustment than an urgent fix for maintenance costs.

Pressing your own coin on a school excursion is a classic Canberra memory for many people. It was always an affordable, hands-on souvenir. A jump to $5 feels steep for an activity aimed at visiting school kids.

The update also looks rushed. The new signage is just a sticker placed over the old $3 label. The machine still only takes coins. It does not accept banknotes, so you need exact change in coins to use it.

Heading down from Newy to walk 28km around Sydney Harbour for the Cancer Council. Meet "The 3 Wise Bois".

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a massive challenge a couple of local Newcastle blokes and I are taking on. On Sunday, 25 October 2026, the three of us, Adam, Tyler, and myself (collectively known as "The 3 Wise Bois"), are heading down to tackle the official 7 Bridges Walk around Sydney Harbour.

It’s a grueling 28km loop. While we’ve logged hundreds of kilometers on our casual daily morning walks around our hometown here in Newy, walking that full distance across 7 major bridges in a single day is going to be a whole different beast.

This isn't just a fitness challenge for us. Cancer has hit our small crew incredibly close to home. We’re walking to honor the memory of my mate's mother, my uncle, and Adam’s sister. We wanted to turn that personal grief into something useful, so we’ve set a pretty wild goal to raise $28,000 for the Cancer Council to fund vital research and support services.

This will be my 4th year doing it, Tyler’s 3rd, and Adam’s 2nd (he's currently crushing the training and keeping us younger blokes on our toes).

We are tackling this fundraiser from multiple angles to hit our target. In the coming months, you might even find one of our flyers land in your mailbox as we do some local letterbox drops. As long as your letterbox doesn't say "No Junk Mail" obviously, haha!

We would absolutely love the backing of our local community. If you are in a position to support a few Newcastle guys trying to make a real dent in cancer research, I will leave our official team fundraising link in the comments below. Every single dollar goes straight to the Cancer Council.

Wish us luck, our legs are going to need it!

"The 3 Wise Bois" walking a 28km loop around Sydney Harbour for the Cancer Council to raise $28,000.

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out from Australia to share a massive challenge my mates and I are taking on. On Sunday, 25 October 2026, the three of us, Adam, Tyler, and myself (collectively known as "The 3 Wise Bois"), are heading down from Newcastle to tackle the official 7 Bridges Walk around Sydney Harbour.

It’s a grueling 28km (approx. 17.4 miles) loop. While we’ve logged hundreds of kilometers on our casual daily morning walks around our hometown, walking this distance across 7 major bridges in one day is a whole different beast.

This isn't just a physical milestone for us. Cancer has hit our small crew incredibly close to home. We’re walking to honor the memory of my mate's mother, my uncle, and Adam’s sister. We wanted to turn that personal grief into collective action, so we’ve set an ambitious goal to raise $28,000 for the Cancer Council to fund vital, lifesaving research and support services.

This will be my 4th year doing it, Tyler’s 3rd, and Adam’s 2nd. We are tackling this fundraiser from multiple angles, including letterbox drops around our local neighborhood and word of mouth on social media.

We would absolutely love to see how big and supportive the Reddit community can be. If you are in a position to back a few guys trying to make a real dent in cancer research, please consider donating through our official page link below.
