Saga of Decay
A Horus Heresy Battle Narrative
@gowarhead x @mp_miniatures
This past spring we joined forces in Barcelona for some hobby adventures and the Horus Heresy was (unsurprisingly) one of the main agendas! Our gaming hobby is mainly about the visuals and the narrative that's usually developed especially for the games at hand, and we have always been on the same page about what kind of hobby experiences we're after. In the next posts we will be presenting a Horus Heresy saga between Death Guard and Space Wolves, inspired by our shared fascination for the 30K universe as well as our Civil War gaming format.
This project will have 12 chapters, we will share one every day for the following 2 weeks! Enjoy!
Legends of the past, legends of the present, and legends of the future. The Galleon leaves the City of the Damned behind, trailing a wake of blood. Many have fought over the vain hope of unraveling its secrets and claiming its power for themselves. The ghost ship has sailed down the River Stir and into the Reik, driven by a spectral breeze, and its aura of doom has prevented patrols from approaching and border garrisons from harming it. Untouched, unmoved, undying, Ludwig Geldmeister’s vessel ventures into the ocean. Its secrets leave the Old World behind and set course to poison the New. Along with them travel legends. Legends that do not go unnoticed by the fortune hunters, rogues, and slavers of Lustria…

The jungle welcomes greedy adventurers with deadly intent. Life here is death, and any misstep leads to a painful digestive experience.

The cyclopean structures entwined within the jungle stand as an effigy of promises. Promises of secrets yet to be uncovered, promises of glory and riches, promises of danger and death.

Secrets take material form when they are released from their prisons as ancient chests are opened by the curious folly of avaricious adventurers. The damage will be terrible.

One of the secrets lies hidden within the Ermita de Santa Catalina, a testament to an expedition undertaken by colonists from Santa Magritta deep into the jungle decades ago. It becomes a blood-soaked battleground as the Estalians defend their rightful inheritance against the usurpers unworthy pirates who seek to seize what is theirs by the divine right granted by La Señora.

Bold and witless adventurers throw open the gates of a fort expecting a magnificent reward. In reality, it is a trap set by big-game hunters in the heart of the jungle. What could it contain.

One of the secrets appears in the form of an ancient artifact lost within the jungle. Fortune has decreed that the radiance of this magical crown should attract the attention of a wayward basilisk hatchling, who becomes fond of the ogre that rescued it from the trap. But where is its mother?

The mother basilisk bursts furiously into the skirmish between rival bands of adventurers in search of her offspring. The only ones bold enough to stand in her path and challenge her are the Norse, who have traveled far from a land where slaying monsters secures immortality in the sagas. Will they prevail?
We painted this one for our Lustria Cities of Gold campaign (Mordheim)!

Hope you like them! They did an amazing job representing warbands that fit in Lustria. Which one is your favorite?
Sneak peek of my Lustria warband: The Scaleflyers, a group determined to cleanse the jungle from the cooldblood. Following the voices of Urzhan, the spiritual leader and wizard of the warband, they will try hunting down the lizardmen, destroying and desacrating their temples and ancient homeland.
Next weekend we have the Sunleech Galleon pt.3 event, using the Mordheim Cities of Gold rules! Three brand new boards and a lot of Lustria themed warbands, very hyped for it!
Skeggi
The longest-enduring settlement in the New World is the Norse colony of Skeggi. Pioneers of maritime exploration, the men of the north were the first to arrive and carve out their place along the coasts of Lustria, ignore whatever any Tilean fool might tell you. No colonial city from the Old World has lasted as long as this filthy town, which has somehow endured for centuries under the breath of Hexoatl, something incomprehensible, beyond even the most learned historians.
This mud-choked haven, hidden on the scraggy coastline of the isthmus, is a refuge for merchants and pirates, if such professions even require distinction. It has drawn people from many nations, each contributing the worst of their cultures to reshape the city, much like its surroundings, plagued by pollution and relentless abuse from constant port activity. Explorers from the Southern Realms turn a blind eye to the savage customs and practices of the Norse rulers, though greed and envy are the true masters here. Its inhabitants know well when to retreat to their homes as street brawls escalate, the mud turning red when cargo and treasure are contested.
There is no avoiding Skeggi for those seeking fortune and reputation in the New World, everything passes through it. Recently, an old legend has resurfaced in its taverns, where putrid ale is served. Many drunken patrons claim that the dreaded Solar Leech has been sighted soaring above the waters. Such incredible tales revive ancient promises of unmatched wealth and glory, and as a result, traffic through this city of mud has increased unsustainably, bringing with it destruction and violence.
However, this is only a grim prelude to what is yet to come. The cursed galleon carries with it a wave of madness that threatens to undermine the fragile, centuries-old peace of Skeggi…

Misty Mountains Hero. Conversion done with a simple headswap using the old Groblog body. This model always amazed me, it had a lot of character. It will fit my army perfectly. Characters work like unit "tokens" in War of the Ring, being an elevated model means he can go in the second rank commanding the troops from a "safe position".
It's a pity most of these old expanded universe models are oop now. I have very good memories of seeing these in the White Dwarfs as a kid.
My complete War of the Ring Rivendell army! We had an amazing event this weekend playing 1000pts armies. This might be the game system I enjoy the most playing, such fast games, with an epic scale and incredible aesthetics. Im really proud of this army, especially the Noldorin Exiles (using Mirkwood Rangers with the Noldor helmets I sculpted). Might finish it with some allied great Eagles now.
