Use old iPhone (no cell access) with Signal?

I recently upgraded my iPhone SE2 to a 17e. I set the SE2 up as sort of a PDA, where it's on wifi and I can do most things with it. I even have Google Voice on it so I can make wifi calls. The one thing I can't seem to do is use Signal on it. I'm thinking that's because Signal recognizes that it's a cell phone and wants to set it up as the primary device, correct? I don't suppose it's possible to work around that and set it up as just another linked device, like an iPad?

Can you not transfer an existing line from an iPhone SE2 to an iPhone 17e without involving Verizon tech support?

I have a new iPhone 17e I bought from Apple. My current device is an iPhone SE2 and is the primary number for the account. If I try to use My Verizon to activate my new iPhone, it says I have no eligible numbers. So do I have to call Verizon and deal with their support folks?

Travel router and Verizon Unlimited hotspot

My phone plan includes using my phone as an 100GB hotspot. I haven't tried it yet as I just bought a new 5G iPhone today and it hasn't been delivered yet. But I'm wondering if I can set that as a hotspot and connect my GLi.net travel router to it. I'd like to use the travel router as a WAN2 backup for failover. Does Verizon care what devices connect to a hotspot?

EDIT: Corrected to 100GB Hotspot

U5G Failover is truly seamless

I was just looking at Unifi Network on my UCG Ultra and saw a notice about an internet interruption from earlier this morning. I installed a U5G a couple of days ago and figured it was having connection issues with T-Mobile. But nope, it was my primary internet that went down for a few minutes and the U5G took over. Wifey and I were both online at that time and neither of us noticed anything wrong. Totally seamless. I imagine if we'd been watching TV or in a Zoom session we might have noticed a hiccup, but just normal surfing went on as if nothing had occured. Very cool.

Unifi as a hobby

Retired IT geek here. Some years back I started down the road of home automation and surveillance. I started out small with some Apple HomeKit (as it was called) cameras and smart plugs/door sensors/bulbs, etc. I quickly outgrew my Apple Airport system and moved to TP-Link. My system grew until I had a bunch of TP-Link switches, Deco wifi, and some PoE cams on Surveillance Station. Then I started migrating to Unifi and replacing the TP-Link stuff. Because of the way my attic is built, getting Ethernet to all corners of the house was nearly impossible. But this week I was finally able to run some CAT6 to the far south end of the house where I had only Eufy cams covering that area. Today I replaced those cams with two new G5 Turret Ultras. So I finally have the entire perimeter of the house covered by PoE cams. Most apporaches to the house are covered by at least two cams and in some cases, three cams. The entire network is now Unifi with a mix of Unif cams and Amcrest cams on AI Ports. I feel like I've finally finished a huge project. Although tomorrow my U5G Backup arrives, so there will be that to play with.

This has been a fun hobby that, along with cycling, takes up most of my time. I'm sort of wondering what to do next, though. Ubiquiti has a lot of cool stuff, but some of it just makes no sense for my use case. I guess I no longer have an excuse to put off cleaning out the basement utility room and finally installing a real network rack. Maybe that's where I'll go next.

Anyone else do this stuff as more of a hobby than a necessity?

Tempest showing high winds on a calm day

https://preview.redd.it/pwc64nely46h1.png?width=1812&format=png&auto=webp&s=7198cf52f1c977ad8433d2f8f82a4eef6f229932

It's almost dead calm outside and my Tempest is swinging wildly between single digits and 34MPH. We did get a ton of rain today. Could this be due to the sensor being wet?

UPDATE: I went out and checked the device. There were hundreds of really tiny little insects crawling all over the wind sensor area. I hit the area with some Windex and cleaned it up. Back to normal now.

DS923+ running slow

Since the last update, my 923+ has been dog slow. 25-30 seconds to get to a login screen and then another 30 seconds to get to the desktop after logging in. It seems to be constantly indexing files even though the files rarely change. I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac backing up to it, but again, those devices rarely have changed files. Can I (or should I) limit file indexing? It's on a gig network and on the same switch as my iMac. CPU and Memory usage are both below 20%, so I think it's just the drives that are constantly being hammered by the indexing.

"I don't need a U5G Backup"

I was looking at the U5G Backup today and thought that our internet goes down so rarely that it'd be a waste of money. Bigger than Stuttgart, the internet went down a few minutes later. Figures. It was only down for 15 minutes or so and now it's back. My stats show a 99.17% uptime for our internet connection, so outages still qualify as rare. But it struck me as spooky that it died shortly after I smugly dismissed a U5G Backup.

Can't add Door Sensor to Apple Home favorites

For some weird reason the door sensor I have on my garage door got switched from the Aqara hub in Apple Home to the Homebridge hub, and then wouldn't respond. I dumped the Homebridge hub from Apple Home and now the door sensor is responding again in Apple Home. But the option to add it to Favorites is missing. I seem to remember having this issue before, but I can't remember how to fix it.

Supress Insight Flow entries

I have some Amcrest PoE cams in my Protect network. I'm slowly replacing them with Unifi cams. Some of the Amcrest cams are constantly trying to reach config.amcrestcloud.com. This is a known issue and I've long ago disabled P2P and UPnP. I've alse tried a static IP setup in the cams with 0.0.0.0 as the only DNS setting. They still somehow try to access that URL. The VLAN has no internet access, so the traffic is being blocked. But the Flow log is full of those entries and everything else sort of gets buried. Is there any way to have Insight supress those entries so they don't fill the logs?

I've been moving my cams to a new camera VLAN. All the 3rd party cams came over fine. Then I moved a G6 180 to the camera VLAN. It picked up an IP fine and I can get to the web UI login page. It also shows up as a device on the router. But it won't show up for adoption in Protect on either the UNVR web interface or by BT on Protect on my iPhone. I've tried restarting it several times, but no joy. Do I have to pull the thing down and factory reset it?

Am I right in thinking if I hang a dumb PoE switch off a vlan port set to a native vlan (say, Cameras), that anything plugged into that switch would be on that vlan?

For example, if I have a small PoE switch in the attic and the uplink port from that switch is on a port set to native for the Camera vlan, wouldn't any IP cam attached to that dumb switch pick up an IP in the Camera vlan?

EDIT: Thanks to those who noted my incorrect use of "tagged." I corrected that to "native vlan."
