CMV: Internet died the day Microsoft killed MSN Messenger

I understand why most people won't agree, from the ones who never used it, to "Facebook was already there", "Skype was better anyway", etc..

But I often remind how many contacts were lost in the process, people you met on Internet/games you were not close enough to friend in Facebook (or didn't use it) but still having fun time chatting with.

Another aspect, I guess typical of that internet era, was the elaborate colorful, then glassy design of the UI, when it had evolved from the minimalist early Windows embedded Messenger.

What was progressively replacing it had already the same sad bland standardized UI design still in use today for various reasons (budget, easy to scale, ...).

I guess we can find other features or reasons, but here is the idea.

Fun times, gone forever?
