things are coming together - (and rug advice?)

I’ve slowly (and semi-patiently) been redecorating my apartment one piece at a time with finds from FB, thrift shops, and antique stores and this month was incredible! I found my lotus lamp for $125, my new antique couch for $500, and my dream shell pillows for $20.

The other side of the room holds my TV & dollhouse collection (all being “renovated”) on some hacked IKEA shelving, which is more ‘industrial’ but really functional. And next to the green chair is an XL floor mirror (6x5’).

So now I need to find a rug that fits the vibe and helps bring everything together. Size-wise, I could do a 5x7’ rectangle or oval, a 7’ circle, or a 6’ circle layered with something else. If you were me, what would you do?

fancy boy outfit inspo?

(not my pictures, just for reference!)

Who do you think has the fanciest/nicest outfit for the Boy/Son figures? I want to re-dress my Cello Concert Set cat (3rd pic) as a boy in a nice little recital outfit... but so far the fancy outfits I can find are all for the Older Brother or Father.

I can also order a custom if needed, but I like re-using outfits whenever I can!

ISO bedding advice -- round bed!

I have an 84" diameter round bed (1st pic) and am struggling with how I want to style the bedding. I'll be replacing the headboard with something more simple, and I'd love any feedback or ideas for what could look nice and function well.

Ideas so far:

  • DIY/tailored sheets & blankets (make them round)
  • Scandinavian 2-duvet system (2 twins? 2 fulls?)
  • keep King duvet (92x104") and add smaller throws
  • DIY a round duvet and duvet covers

My dream style is very vintage, layered, and burlesque-boudoir inspired (rest of the pics) -- and I prefer natural fibers (cotton, linen, silk, bamboo) whenever possible. I've got a moss-green wool rug coming, I'll be wallpapering, and I have antique 1910s-20s vanity & dresser across from this bed so it will look more cohesive.

help identifying wood(s) used in antique bed

I'm creating a bed inspired by this piece and currently sourcing veneers... the listing called this a "Depression Era Mahogany bed," but I was hoping some wood experts could weigh in after peeking at multiple angles & lighting.

I know I'm leaning heavily on 'inspiration', and just want to make sure I start off on a good foot. Thank you!

crowdsourcing a fantasy bed build

I've recently stumbled into possession of a circle bed - popular in the 60s - but my furniture taste is squarely in the 1900-1920s range. So, I want to make a headboard + footboard for my circle bed, that will look nicely with my curio cabinets, vanity & barrister bookcases.

I'm definitely a novice woodworker. I've taught myself kerf cutting, gotten the finishing process down, and have finally learned to measure twice 5-6 times & cut once (or twice).

The hardest part is that this'll require some shapes of which I'm unsure the best way to create.

the fantasy outline/shape of headboard & center portion of the footboard. no side 'wings' of the footboard. head/foot will be bolted to the circular bed frame.

Essentially I want to recreate something like this Depression-era head/footboard - but as curved/semicircle shapes. I'm comfortable with applying veneer to the broad faces, but the base shaping and edges/trim are stumping me.

---------------------------------------------------------------

BASE:
I've been able to research flexible plywood, which I think could make a good base (maybe over a contoured 1x1 frame?). Some posts I've seen say regular 1/4" plywood or 1/8" luan underlayment would be flexible enough for this gentle curve, too?

[I'd like to avoid manual kerf-cutting unless it's the best & most economical possibility, purely because it's my least favorite part of fabrication.]

EDGE SHAPING:
For the edges, I need something that can give that smooth, continuous look around the face edge and 'top'. I've considered flexible chair rail, flexible molding, or maybe flat flexible rail/molding that can be shaped with a router (?)... all these ready-made options are plastic and I worry would cheapen the overall look even after staining. I also don't know if they can flex radially and surface-wise.

For the details inside, I've seen heat-bendable trim, but again I'm not sure if these products can adhere to the surface while being asked to curve radially and with the surface (concave for the head, convex for the foot).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you if you've read all this, and if you have ANY ideas or tips I'm all ears! This is definitely going to push my limits, but I'm ready to take my time, practice, and ask my local folks to help me learn mechanical skills... I appreciate any information you all can send my way!

a circle bed, like the one in question -- a lovely regency example, but not my style

Over the last couple years, I've practiced simplifying my makeup collection to only my diehard fave formulas, brands, and colors, and here they are!

I can fit them all neatly into this IKEA Saxborga layered box (discontinued) and everything gets tucked away easily since I do my makeup "from the bottom up" as I move through the box. The only thing that doesn't fit well is my lash curler since it's a weird shape.

I have a separate bag of 'minis' that I keep in my purse/dance bag for touchups and perfomances, and a plastic clamshell for my false lashes, but here's 95% of my collection!
