Potentially moving from Royal Oak/Ferndale to Detroit – neighborhood recommendations?

My partner and I (both in our early 30s) are thinking about moving into Detroit next year. We currently live in the Royal Oak/Ferndale area and love the walkability, but we'd like to actually be in the city.

We're looking for somewhere that's safe, walkable, and relatively quiet. My partner is in healthcare and occasionally has to get up in the middle of the night when on call, so we'd like to be in a safe area and to avoid areas where street racing, loud cars, or a lot of late night noise are common.

Downtown is probably more action than we're looking for, but we've been considering Corktown and Midtown. We'd most likely be looking for a top-floor apartment in a newer building.

For those who live in the city, would Corktown or Midtown be a good fit? Are there any other neighborhoods or apartment buildings you'd recommend?

I’ve walked past the Spirit of Detroit for years and never noticed this angle

Caught this downtown Saturday evening.

The giant blue IKEA bag is the unofficial Costco MVP

I’ve been doing this for years and figured I’d share.

After checking out at Costco, I load everything into one or two of these giant IKEA bags in my car. When I get home, I can carry most of my haul inside in a single trip instead of making multiple runs back and forth.

They’re cheap, durable, fold easily, and hold an absurd amount of groceries.

Maybe everyone already knows this trick, but it’s one of my favorite Costco hacks!

Germany vs. Ivory Coast (Toronto) – Looking for 1-2 Last-Minute Ticket(s)!

Long shot, but figured I'd ask.

I'm a 34-year-old from Detroit and a three-time testicular cancer survivor. Attending a World Cup match has been a dream of mine for years, and with Germany vs. Ivory Coast being just a few hours away, I'm hoping to find a last-minute opportunity.

I've already reached out to FIFA and the Toronto organizers but came up empty. If anyone has an extra ticket, knows of a legitimate last-minute option, or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

Happy to drive to Toronto today. Looking for 1 ticket.

Thanks!

Adults who don’t return apartment carts after using them are unbelievably inconsiderate

My apartment complex has carts residents can use for groceries, packages, moving things, etc. The only expectation is that you return it when you’re done so other residents can use it.

Instead, people constantly leave them abandoned throughout the building like this. This isn’t a one-off either; it happens all the time in a complex with hundreds of residents. It’s like not returning a shopping cart after using it at a grocery store.

I genuinely don’t understand how some adults can use a shared community resource and then just leave it wherever is most convenient for them.

People who “reserve” pool chairs for hours with towels and disappear are the worst

My apartment complex pool has rules specifically saying chair reservation isn’t allowed, yet people do this constantly. These towels have been sitting here unattended for at least 3 hours while every other chair is occupied and people are actively walking around looking for seats. It’s Sunday too, so management isn’t around to enforce anything.

What’s the standard practice when this happens? At what point is it acceptable to move the towels?

This guy in my apartment complex parks like this every single day

Limited parking already, and this Range Rover consistently takes up two spots while everyone else parks normally. Not a one-time bad park either; this is daily behavior. I genuinely don’t understand the entitlement.

Delta Airlines recommends Belleville as a landmark when landing at DTW??

This seems crazy to me. Of all landmarks, Delta chooses Belleville?
