I’m soooo excited about this project I just had to share!! I’m making a 3D jeep “lamp” for my Jeep-fanatic dad 🥰

I’m soooo excited about this project I just had to share!! I’m making a 3D jeep “lamp” for my Jeep-fanatic dad 🥰

This is my most complex project yet so wish me luck 😱. Spent weeks on sketching out all the different panels and today I finally started cutting out the first pieces. My dad has always loved Jeeps and finally got himself one again recently. His birthday is coming up and Father’s Day (for my country) is not much later so this is gonna be a double whammy gift. The back will have a window that lifts up where the lights will be inserted! I’ve never done a 3D project before but I’m so excited!! So if you see lots of progress pictures of this come by in the next weeks I’m sorry LOL

I made this as a gift and I’m really proud of it so I wanted to share it! I included pictures of all my steps, from sketch to finish!

Stained glass/tiffany technique, made by cutting and grinding pieces of glass, wrapping them in copper foil, and soldering them together. Finished with copper patina and a chain for hanging. I made this for my bf to celebrate our two year anniversary!

My biggest stained glass piece yet! It’s a gift for my bf for our two year anniversary 🥰. Progress pics included from sketch to finishing it with patina and a hanging chain

This is made using the Tiffany technique, a form of stained glass art. The pattern is completely designed by me, then I enlarged it and cut out the pieces from some thicker paper. After cutting and grinding the pieces they get wrapped in copper foil and then soldered together.

Finished! My biggest piece yet, made for my bf for our two year anniversary! Full progress pics included, from sketch to patina’ed with chain 😁

Decided to go without the wire accents on the comb after majority voted plus it also meant I didn’t need to spend another hour on it and could patina it and finish 😂

Largest piece yet with my new stash! Foil thickness advice?

Making a Corinthian helmet for my bf for our second anniversary. He got me my new glass haul as an early gift for it so it only felt right to create him something with it! Just wondering about foil thickness? I’ve only used 3/16 so far but my pieces have been relatively small. I also have 7/32 which I thought might be better suited for a piece this size? Unsure how to gauge which thickness to use, so would love any tips you guys have for that! Sharpie for scale cuz no bananas available lol

This whole project has been cursed from the start which is hilarious LOL

- I started cutting on the wrong side of the glass which meant my cutter was catching on the rough surface, which made my cuts less tight.

- This meant I wasted more glass. One piece split in two with the very last cut.

- That last piece splitting meant I no longer had enough of the same colour to finish!! So had to add the fiery red colour and two pieces from a similar colour glass to compromise

- I messed up the pattern and missed an impossible cut I had done right where the right ear meets the tail. Had to rework it freehand on the fly.

- When I went to finish soldering after a couple weeks the solder suddenly wasn’t behaving and I got wonky beading everywhere, had to go painfully slow to fix it.

- And lastly, just now when I was applying the copper patina coat I accidentally tapped the right leg and because it’s a hinge joint (only attached by one straight line) it came off LOL

But whatever, it’s DONE!!!! And I love it so it was worth it haha
