The quantum computing risk gets dismissed too quickly in crypto discussions

I used to assume this was one of those problems that's too far off to think about. After actually reading into it, I've changed my mind a bit.

The part that stands out is harvest now, decrypt later. An attacker doesn't need a working quantum computer today. They just need to capture encrypted data now and hold onto it until the hardware exists to break it later. That means the exposure window has already started for anything encrypted today, regardless of when the actual breakthrough happens.

NIST has also already finalized post-quantum cryptography standards. That's not a hypothetical anymore, it's a signal that infrastructure is expected to start migrating.

What makes this relevant to crypto specifically is that permanence is the whole selling point. An immutable ledger is only an advantage as long as the cryptography behind it holds. If it doesn't, permanence just becomes permanent exposure, and there's no patching history after the fact.

I'm not saying this is an emergency. Timelines are genuinely uncertain. But migrating cryptographic systems takes years even in ideal conditions, and waiting until there's consensus on urgency kind of defeats the point of preparing early.

Curious if anyone's seen projects actually building toward this versus just acknowledging it exists when it comes up.

Bridging or wrapping BTC isn't a safe option

I have been holding bitcoin for a while now, and every time yield comes up in conversation, it's the same pitch, deposit, earn and somehow the self-custody part just quietly disappears from the conversation. Like we collectively agreed that's the cost of doing business.

What bugs me is Bitcoin wasn't really designed to just sit there either. There's clearly more you can do with it natively than we've settled for, script capabilities that never really got used for lending/staking type stuff the way other chains lean into constantly. It feels like the ecosystem defaulted to wrapping or Bridging way too early instead of pushing on what's actually possible while keeping BTCwhere they are.

Not trying to dunk on anyone still using CeFi or wrapped setups, that stuff works fine for a lot of people. It just feels like there's a gap between what Bitcoin can technically support and what we've actually built around it.

Are you guys looking into Native BTC lending and what platforms are you considering, IMO this could be a game changer.

Every time this topic comes up someone says its decades away, relax, and honestly I used to think the same until I actually looked into how fast the timelines have moved just in the last year or two. NIST already finalized their post-quantum standards, that's not speculative anymore. That's a government body saying, Build for this now. And the scarier part isn't even Q-day itself, it's harvest-now-decrypt-later, where encrypted data gets scooped up today and just sits there waiting for the hardware to catch up. If you think about how much of what we do on-chain is permanent and public, that's kind of a wild risk to just shrug off.

The thing that gets me is people treat this like a light switch, like one day quantum computers exist and the next day everything breaks. It's not going to work like that. It's gradual, and by the time it's obviously urgent, it's already too late for a lot of legacy infra to adapt in time. AI agents are about to move serious money and nobody's figured out the liability question yet

Been thinking about this a lot lately after reading about the Thai Finance Ministry attack where an AI agent ran unattended for 4 days and bypassed its own approval prompts entirely.

The capability conversation is basically settled at this point. Agents can trade, reconcile, pay invoices, manage treasury positions. The demos are real and the enterprise deployments are happening.

The question nobody's answering cleanly is what happens when something goes wrong.

Not a dramatic crash. The quiet version agent completes the task, output looks right, passes review. Then six months later someone questions a specific transaction and the trail is a log file that proves what the system recorded, not necessarily what actually happened or whether anything was left out.

There's a meaningful difference between logging an action and proving it was authorized, happened exactly as recorded, and that nothing was omitted from the record. Most current deployments only do the first one.

The projects that survive the next phase aren't going to be the ones with the best agents. They're going to be the ones that can answer the liability question with something more than a log file.

I know there are a few building towards this just curious whether anyone here is actually looking into this as well.

Wrapping or bridging BTC might be a big mistake.

Been thinking about this a lot lately. Every time I look into earning yield on BTC, it comes down to the same options, hand it to a CeFi platform and hope they don't do like Celsius, or wrap it into WBTC. For me it just feels weird trusting a bridge and a multisig instead of Bitcoin itself.

What's interesting is the stuff happening with native Bitcoin staking using Taproot, where the BTC never actually leaves the Bitcoin chain, no wrapping, no bridge, no custodian holding your keys. I think this might actually be the future of BTC becoming productive.

Not saying wrapped BTC is going away, it's just wild that lending BTC has meant giving up actual bitcoin security assumptions for so long, when the base layer can technically do more than we've been using it for.

Curious if anyone's tried native staking or lending, What's your thought on this? Or you still prefer Wrapping your BTC to get access to Defi?

MetaMask just proved my point about AI agent auditing

A few weeks ago I posted about the importance of auditing AI agents in finance. Got a lot of mixed replies.

Then MetaMask launched Agent Wallet a few days ago, a wallet designed for AI agents to execute trades and DeFi operations completely autonomously.

Here's why this matters for finance. They built security features, most vendors only promise transaction simulation before execution, threat scanning, Insurance coverage up to $10,000/month if an agent passes security checks but still causes a loss.

Even the crypto world admits agents will make mistakes they can't fully predict. But the audit gap remains

Agent Wallet logs what the agent did, the transactions, the protocols. It doesn't log why it made those decisions. The reasoning chain is invisible.

Now imagine that same logic applied to an ERP. An agent reclassifies an expense, adjusts depreciation, recalculates tax, all autonomously. The audit log shows each action but not the interdependent reasoning that connected them.

Coinbase, BNB Chain, OKX are all releasing similar products. The infrastructure for autonomous financial agents is being built right now. The governance framework to audit them? Still just transaction histories with show reasoning buttons that nobody can actually trace.

There are only a few projects focused on auditing AI agent and I believe they are not getting enough recognition as they should. What are your thought regarding this?

Are we actually at the bottom or is this just a relief bounce?

BTC's been hovering around $63-64k the last week or so and honestly hard to tell if we've found a floor or if we're just consolidating before another leg down. Volume's been thin too saw some data showing spot volume across major exchanges hit its lowest point of the year recently, which makes the price action feel a little indecisive rather than convincing.

Not trying to call a bottom here, just feels like one of those stretches where everyone's waiting for someone else to move first.

Cramer went on Mad Money and said he's dumping his entire BTC stack because of a quantum computing scare from an IBM exec. Man has been wrong on crypto calls so consistently there's a whole inverse Cramer meme built around it there was literally an ETF that shorted his picks for a while.

Every time this guy panics, it ends up being noise more than signal. Not saying quantum concerns aren't worth understanding long term, but sell now because a chairman used the word paranoid in an interview isn't exactly a technical thesis.

We're building self-driving cars for money. But where's the black box?

I've been watching the agentic finance space for a while now and something doesn't sit right.

Agents can trade, pay invoices, manage treasuries and book restaurants. Some can even write their own drivers and execute in Ring 0.

But here's what's bugging me, When a self-driving car crashes, we have a black box. When an AI agent moves money and something goes wrong, what do we have?

Logs? A dashboard? A trail that vanishes after 30 days?

The financial system runs on audits. On proof. On the ability to say this happened, here's why, and here's who authorized it.

Agents are moving faster than the audit trail can keep up. That's not sustainable.

Are there any projects building the verification layer now? With every step hashed and tied to authorization, receipts that actually hold up to regulators. Not a replacement for human judgment. Just a way to make sure we can answer what happened?

Genuinely asking, does it still make sense to hold ETH over BTC now that BTC staking is becoming a thing?

Been sitting on this thought for a while and want some pushback tbh. For years the argument for ETH over BTC was basically ETH does something, BTC just sits there. Staking rewards, DeFi, your asset actually working for you while you sleep. BTC was just a digital gold.

That gap is closing. There's a bunch of native BTC staking infrastructure rolling out now, some still testnet, some further along that lets you actually earn on bitcoin without wrapping it into some sketchy synthetic version or trusting a random custodian with your keys.

So the question I keep coming back to, if I was holding ETH only because I was able to stake it, is that reason still as strong? Not saying ETH's dead, programmability and the whole is still a real thing ETH has that BTC doesn't. But the yield argument specifically feels weaker than it used to be.

Anyone who's held through a full cycle would you actually rotate some ETH into BTC for this, or is that missing the point of why you hold ETH in the first place?

Everyone treats quantum threats to blockchains as a decades away problem. But there's a catch most people miss, attackers don't need a quantum computer now to start attacking now.

Bitcoin's security relies on the fact that you can't derive a private key from a public key. Quantum computers running Shor's algorithm would make that trivial. And any address that's ever sent a transaction has already exposed its public key meaning huge amounts of transaction history are already sitting out there, ready to be cracked the moment the hardware exists. This is called harvest now, decrypt later.

NIST already finalized post-quantum signature standards. The problem is applying them. Blockchains can't just push an update, switching signature schemes means a hard fork, migrating billions in old-format funds, and doing it calmly before a crisis, not during one.

Even optimistic estimates 10-15 years for real quantum hardware don't leave much room, because migration itself, new standards, audits, node adoption, and actually moving user funds takes years on its own.

Even with quantum-safe signatures ready, getting millions of holders to move funds out of old addresses before it's urgent is a massive coordination problem. Dormant coins would likely just sit there vulnerable forever.

IMO, blockchains that are focused on quantum resistant tech will be the main focus in the next few months, this is where the focus should be now.

Spent years trying to time tops and bottoms on BTC, finally accepted I'm just bad at it and it saved me so much stress

I used to be that guy constantly checking if we're at a top, selling too early, then buying back in higher because I panicked about missing the next leg up. I did that more times than I want to admit. Few months ago, I just got tired of it and decided to stop trying to be smarter than the market and just hold through the noise instead. The funny thing is, once I stopped trying to trade around it, the stress dropped like 90% and the returns actually got better. Turns out doing nothing beats doing something most of the time when you're not actually good at the something lol.

The only downside of just holding is it does feel a little passive after a while, like your BTC is just sitting there not really doing anything for you while you wait out the years. That's the main reason lending caught my attention recently, not as a way to get back into trying to be clever, just as a way to let the BTC actually do something productive while still holding through everything the same way I always have.

The trustless setups where it never actually leaves your custody are what made it click for me. It feels less like trading and more like just an upgrade to holding.

I lowkey regret how much time and money I dumped into alts over the years, wish I just bought BTC the whole time

I went through the whole cycle of chasing whatever was pumping, jumping between different coins, buying tops, panic selling bottoms, the usual mess. Looking back, most of that money would've just sat there and grown if I'd left it in BTC instead of trying to be clever. Not hating on alts as a whole, just saying for me personally it was a lot of stress and effort for way worse results than just holding the boring asset.

These days I've basically gone full BTC only, it feels a lot simpler.

But now that I'm just sitting on BTC, the question becomes, what do you actually do with it besides just holding? And that's why I have been looking into lending. The idea of putting BTC to work without wrapping it into some synthetic version or handing it to a custodian actually makes sense to me now in a way lending never did back in my alt days, probably because the risk profile feels completely different when it's just BTC sitting there with spend conditions instead of some sketchy CeFi platform doing god knows what with your coins behind the scenes.

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else went through the same thing, got burned out on alts and ended up BTC only, and if so, what are you doing with your stack now? Just holding it, or have you actually looked into any of the lending stuff that's been floating around lately?

BTC price action the last couple days is actually looking really good, feels like we might be setting up for a bigger move here

I've been watching this range for a while, and it's finally starting to break structure in a good way, with higher lows stacking up and each dip getting bought pretty fast, which usually tells me hands are getting stronger, not weaker. Volume's picking up too on the green days, which is different from the fakeouts we've seen before, where it pumped on nothing and dump right after.

Not trying to call a top or bottom or whatever, just saying the setup looks different this time, more like BTC accumulation finally paying off rather than just another chop cycle. If it holds above where we are now, I think a lot of sidelined money starts jumping back in, and that's usually when things move fast. Curious what everyone thinks about this move, though. Anyone else still sitting on staked BTC wondering if there's a better way to do this

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I've had BTC parked in various staking setups for a while now, and it always bugged me that the only way to actually earn yield on it meant wrapping it or bridging it somewhere, which. Yes. We all know how that story tends to go when the bridge gets hit.

What got my attention recently is this whole trustless vault approach some projects are exploring, where the BTC literally never leaves the Bitcoin chain. No wrapped token, no bridge contract holding your BTC. It uses taproot spend conditions so the vault logic lives natively on L1, and you get proof you can actually redeem without trusting some multisig of randoms.

It feels like the difference between trust me, bro yield and yield where the security model is Bitcoin's own.
