Is tying my own flies as a beginner worth it?

I love fishing and have been using conventional tackle for many years and made an impulse decision to buy a fly rod. Within about a month I’ve already spent several hundred dollars on my new found addiction. Now my question is, is fly tying easy to learn and is the cost for the material vs cost per fly worth it at a beginner level. I’ve had thoughts I may be over eager to try new things but I don’t wanna burn myself out and let it sit for ages. I’ve been looking at fly tying bundles and sets on Facebook marketplace in the 200$-300$ range.

Big bass flies?

I’m keen on getting a bigger sized fish on the fly rod, in the 5-7lb range. I have several locations around me where I have caught bass around those weights, are these good flies for targeting bigger bass?

First fish on the fly!

Nice 2lber hit a woolly bugger. I was practicing casting and happened to get hooked up! Awesome feeling catching a decent bass on a fly combo

Got my first fish on the fly

It was a rainy morning today and I only laid him on the grass cause it was very wet. 2lber on the fly felt insane, I forgot about the drag and had no slack line out and when he hit it my reel was screaming and my rod was bending hard😂 definitely not gonna forget that feeling for a while.

Got my first fly rod hoping to slay some hogs

Found a great deal on these Redington bass field kits. I’m fishing in central and south Florida and occasionally in Tennessee and north and South Carolina if I’m feeling up to the traveling. I’m still learning to cast and haven’t actually fished with the setup yet but tomorrow is gonna be my first practice day at a local pond. I usually target bass in the 5lb-8lb range and southern exotics. What flies would you recommend I start out with?

Any one here fly fish for bass?

Got a great deal on a Redington bass field kit and bought it somewhat on an impulse. I’ve been recently been going through the motions with bass fishing and want to make it more exciting so I figured trying something new would be my best bet. Casting has been a learning curve but I feel it coming together the more I practice. I plan to fish off my paddle board for Largemouth here in Florida and Smallmouth up north. Any fly suggestions or casting techniques would be greatly appreciated🤙

Bought my first fly combo today!

Bass pro has the Redington Bass field kits on a 60% off sale right now. I was looking to buy from a local retailer but they were sold out everywhere and for that price I got a great deal. I’m looking for a good YouTube channel or instructor I can watch and learn as much as I can so comment your favorite of most helpful channels🤙 I’m in central Florida and I’m fishing for bass

Daiwa Tatula X TW 100 paired with a Johnny Morris Carbonlite

Broke the eye on my first carbonlite and got a new replacement today. I had a Calcutta 101XT on my old one but opted for a cork handle rod for the Calcutta, but this tatula looks so good on this rod. What would you throw with this setup?

Hit the fish whistle a little to hard😭

Exploring the Little Econ back waters and pulled this guy outta of a cypress tree root with a wacky rig on my bass pro tiny lite 😂 almost 4lbs!

Biggest catch on UL!

Previously my biggest fish on this tiny lite combo was a 5lb 3oz bass. I’ve caught one carp before that weighed 8lbs and this one was significantly bigger. I was on a paddle board and it towed me around the lake quite a bit, it fought hard and a lot longer then I expected.

Some of my favorite hard baits for river and pond hopping

Some of my highest producing lures on bfs setups. I’ve been trying to get proficient in throwing hard baits and I use these regularly with great success. I feel like this collection is equipped well enough that I can fish every zone no matter the time or day or season and get bit. Am I missing any good baits? I fish a lot of rivers and ponds for largemouth bass and I love trying out new gear so if you have any recommendations to what I can add to the bunch I’d love to hear it 🤙

It was halfway down his throat and seemed to still be swallowing it as I held him there so I let him finish his snack before sending him on home

I think one of my favorite things about largemouths is actually how large their mouths can get 😂 watching them inhale my baits is truly an awesome experience. The gambler paddle tail has not let me down catching some truly beautiful fish.
