To those who advocate for the abolishment of Israel as the only way to end this - how do you think that would happen?

I've had a lot of conversations in the past couple of days with multiple people who told me that the only way forward is for Israel to be abolished.

Israel is a nuclear armed country with an advanced military and 10 million citizens who (ostensibly) don't want their country destroyed.

So - how do you see Israel *realistically* being abolished? Like what does that look like and how does it realistically come about?

And before anyone just says "South Africa" - if you think that's a good example then please add specifics about how the situations are the same.

I mean this respectfully - I'm not looking for slogans. It's easy to say "Abolish Israel" - but the devil is in the details.

I'm looking for real and specific answers. Because it seems like what gets forgotten is that the Israelis will have a say in whether or not their country is destroyed.

My personal opinion (for what it's worth) is this sort of "all or nothing" demand is how we got here in the first place. And if the Palestinians decide that the only state they'll accept is on what was once Israel then they're likely to stay in a state of misery.

A conversation I had on DM with a Palestinian (with a very nice guy I just fundamentally happen to disagree with) stated that the *only* path forward was to abolish Israel and form and new Palestinian state with an unlimited right of return.

He said that he believed that a power sharing agreement like Lebanon has (50% Jewish 50% Palestinian for the government) would work fine.

And he said there would be protections for Jews "written into the Constitution". My response was that a piece of paper doesn't protect people. I mean hell look at the US - we have a president who does what he wants because the institutions that are supposed to keep him in check have failed.

But I digress - the point is that I never got a good answer about *how* Israel would actually be dissolved.

The whole discourse around this kind of reminds me of the underpants gnomes from South Park.

Step 1. Underpants
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit

So I'm putting this out to the posters on here who truly believe that Israel needs to be abolished: How is that going to happen?

Question about public beach access

Hey everyone -

My wife and I are looking at buying a vacation property in Santa Rosa Beach and I had a question about public beach access.

We've been both to Ed Walline and Blue Mountain beaches and obviously those have really easy access.

Here's what's confusing me: on the Beach and Bay access location website (visitsouthwalton.com) there are public beaches without any named beach access sites surrounded by private beaches - and I don't see any access for the public beaches (at least from the land side).

Is there any way to access those public beaches - or are they just "public" because no one owns the rights to them...but there's no easy way to access them?

This is mostly an "I'm confused" post - we really only plan on using the easy public access beaches but I was hoping a local could enlighten me on this.

Thanks for any/all info!

Looking for any advice/wisdom from hosts on here - we're going to be joining you as hosts soon...

Hey everyone - my wife and I are working with a realtor to buy a home in the 30A area of Florida. We're looking w/in about .5 miles from the beach (so mostly walking distance - although we're looking at buying a 6 seat electric golf cart to offer as an amenity to guests...and for us as well because the area is golf cart friendly and it'll be fun for us too).

We're primarily buying this house for our family...but we're not going to use it a ton (our daughter is in elementary school and my job has a non-standard schedule so we have to get everything to align for us to get down there). So figured we'd offer it as a STR for the majority of the year when we're not there (and we're fine letting it fully rent out June-August I understand those are the peak months for rentals at the beach).

We don't live anywhere near Florida (and I don't have the time/inclination to manage my own property) so we're currently interviewing management companies - but I think we've likely picked one (they manage a property we've stayed at before and - at least from the guest perspective - they're absolutely fantastic).

I've gotten a wealth of wonderful information from discussions on here. But reading through all the posts (while hugely helpful) is time consuming (and that's totally ok - I'm learning a lot). But hey might as well solicit advice and see what new info comes my way.

So I figured I'd create this post and ask for any tips/tricks you all would offer a new host. Any nuggets of wisdom you all would care to share would be greatly appreciated!

Question for the locals about owning a golf cart with no garage or car port:

Is this viable? My wife and I are looking at buying a vacation home for our family in (or around) Santa Rosa Beach.

We've spent some time there on vacation and always rented a golf cart. We loved the "golf cart" lifestyle and the ability to own one there is pretty important to us.

The caveat being that we're not going to be there all the time (we live in Colorado so we'll travel there when we can). So the golf cart will just kind of be sitting there under a cover.

Not sure about how smart it is to leave it plugged in and charging while we're gone. I don't know anything about golf carts so I know I have a lot to learn.

One of the homes we're looking at has a HOA that (apparently) will allow us to put up a "nice" car port...but failing that: what's the viability of keeping a golf cart in good shape under a cover/tarp but otherwise out in the open.

And for whatever it's worth: we're looking at buying a club car with a lithium ion battery which are apparently made from aluminum so mostly rust resistant.

Thanks for any/all information and advice!

Question about tvs and apps

Hey everyone - longtime listener first time caller.

My wife and I are about to buy a vacation home and enter the STR market.

I travel for work so I’m pretty used to smart tvs in hotels wiping login info (for apps like Netflix/Apple TV/etc) after a guest checks out.

They also have “central hubs” on the TVs when you turn them on.

I’m curious if anyone here has used anything that makes the tv more like a hotel - or is it on the guest to log out when they leave?

As far as the central hub - is there a way to have that and program “about the area” information as well as links to apps and live tv? Or is that relatively complex?

Just a random thought I had and I figured this would be a great place to ask.

Thank you for any/all information!

Looking for a game or app where I can feel like I’m on a tropical beach - anything like that exist?

The question is more or less in the title. Something kind of like the VR environments on the meta quest but that I can walk around a bit.

Sometimes I just want to forget where I am and would love to feel like I’m on a beach.

Might be a stupid question but want to ask Norwegians - does streaming work in Norway?

Hey everyone just a quick question - my wife is from Stavanger and we're going to be visiting her family. Remote play when I'm traveling has been...ok. I've had much better luck just streaming...but I know there are countries it doesn't work.

So just wanted to ask any Norwegians on here (or people who have traveled to Norway) if it works?

Who’s hoping for an 80s radio station?

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know how licensing works…but man it would be incredible if they had an 80s station with the greatest hits from Vice City.

Anyone think this is likely?

Edit to clarify: specific songs from Vice City making a comeback (bs just an 80s station which we all know will be in the game)

Looking to (eventually) buy a used Club Car Onward 6 Passenger - good/bad idea to buy used?

Hey everyone - looking for some advice/guidance. I'll start out by saying - I'm new to golf carts (I put up a post yesterday asking for advice on what to look for) so I basically know less than nothing. So I figured a good idea to ask as many questions as possible before seriously starting to look.

We're looking for property along 30A and golf carts seem to be the preferred way to get around down there. Due to proximity to the ocean I want aluminum...and the Club Car seems to be very well liked and well made.

I'm going to be looking for an Onward 6 Passenger electric.

Obviously they're not cheap (I know - you get what you pay for). So I wanted to ask if it would be good/bad idea to look for a used one when we're ready to buy? Or should we just get brand new from a dealer?

Thanks for any/all advice and suggestions!

Would love suggestions on make/model 4-6 seater for the beach

Hey everyone - I'll start out by saying I know less than nothing about golf carts. I've driven one for a week on a beach vacation...otherwise I have friends who golf.

Which means my knowledge level about these things is somewhere between zero and...well...zero.

We're looking at purchasing a home by the beach where golf carts are widely used. And since I don't want to drive my suburban tank into a parking lot designed for much smaller vehicles I'm looking at buying a 4 or 6 seat golf cart (wife wants 6 seater so that seems like a more likely choice - but just educating myself right now).

So I know this is a very broad questions but...suggestions?

Are there make/models that I should focus on or steer clear of? Gas or Electric (we'll have a garage we can park it/charge it in)? Specific features I should look for or avoid?

The primary (well really only) use is going to be driving to/from the beach and out to bars/restaurants and whatnot.

Any suggestions or advice you would be willing to offer would be greatly appreciated!

Edit to add: for what it's worth my wife is pretty nervous about the lithium ion battery powered ones (fires) since it'll be sitting in our garage.

Santa Rosa beach vacation home - looking for a local’s perspective

Hey everyone - my wife and I are starting to look for a vacation home on the Gulf (currently looking between Gulf Shores AL and Santa Rosa).

We’ve taken a vacation to Santa Rosa and absolutely loved it (I’m pushing 50 so not looking for crazy nightlife).

I know that taking a vacation somewhere doesn’t even begin to make someone knowledgeable about an area - but from what I could tell it seems like a perfect place for us.

But hey that’s why you ask question, right?

We live in Denver so having a beach-adjacent place has been in the plans for a while.

We’re looking at single family homes with a garage (will have a golf cart to get around) - but beyond that…just looking for thoughts about the city and having a vacation place there.

I know the crowds get pretty intense during the summer and that’s not a worry.

Beyond that - anything we should be thinking about and any questions we *should* be asking our realtor (and anything specific we should be looking at/wary of)?

Thank you for any and all advice!

Edit to add: I know insurance costs there are no joke. We’re looking primarily at newer places and for value mostly north of 98.

Hoping for some information/advice about a vacation home in Corpus Christi (vs other Gulf cities)

Hey everyone - hoping for some help/information about the city/beach life there.

For starters - I'm a Coloradan and my experience with the Gulf is only family vacations - and never along the Texas coast.

My wife and I are at a point in our lives where we're starting to talk about buying a vacation home/beach house (not for short term rental - just for the family).

My search has primarily been in/around Gulf Shores AL and Destin FL - but my wife has fallen in love with the idea of CC. The houses there are much cheaper and honestly a lot nicer. But I've also been told by a couple people I know from Texas that the beaches there aren't as nice as the beaches in (for instance) AL.

I promise - those aren't fighting words! I'm sure it's beautiful there but I wanted to ask people who actually spend a lot of time there. My friends are from Houston and Dallas so never got down there all that often.

I also know there's the question of "what experience are we looking for"? And...that's sort of in flux. Eventually in retirement I'll want to get a boat and go fishing in the Gulf (and from what I've read boat culture there is better than in the Floribama region). But that said I also want beautiful beaches for swimming and decent bars and restaurants (we're in our 40s and I'm pushing 50 so not looking for clubbing - just good local places to eat/drink and relax).

And ultimately - looking for a "beach town" feel.

I know that we need to visit before getting too serious...but damn there are so many places that we can look. So I figured I'd reach out to the locals and ask for your thoughts before booking any trips.

Thank you all for any information/advice you can offer!

Looking to educate myself - looking for boat suggestions for the Gulf (around Gulf Shores/Destin)

Hey everyone - I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

My wife and I are looking at buying a vacation home in/around Gulf Shores Alabama to the Destin area (my wife wants to look in SC but honestly I'm in love with the Gulf).

I hit forced retirement in 15 years - but I'm not a "buy a place/sell a place rinse repeat" kind of person. I want to find one place and build family memories there.

I know almost nothing about boats - but I also know that what I asked for in the title is way too general as there are so many options.

So here's what I'm looking for:

Something that can go offshore a few miles for decent fishing but not a liveaboard. In my retirement I just want to be able to go out on the water for a day, fish (probably poorly), eat some cheese sandwiches and quietly listen to some CCR and Zeppelin.

When I eventually get this (and it might be at least a few years - I'm in no rush) I'll take classes to be safer - but I don't plan on (intentionally) going out on rough water.

So basically - something comfortable (from the research I've done probably 25'-30'), stable, and safe.

I know boats can be insanely expensive so my budget is pretty low (at least for now). I'm thinking under $150,000 - however that said the less spent the better. If I can get something great for $50,000 that would be awesome...but I'm not sure how realistic that is (I don't know what I don't know).

Anyway any advice/pointers/whatever you think I should know would be greatly appreciated!

Edit to add: I’m planning on keeping whatever I get in a Marina. Trailering in/out is too much of a headache for me.

Are there any NPCs I should prioritize hiring?

Hey everyone - fairly new to the game. I finally have enough to hire one of the NPCs on Tortuga but not sure who I should hire first.

Any recommendations?

Can't mine clay?

Hey everyone - just a quick question. New to the game and I'm at the point where I need to mine clay.

There's a deposit right next to my camp - I'm over it with my pickaxe but I'm not mining anything.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Can someone explain to me why any Palestinian leader would make peace with Israel?

I apologize in advance - I'm not an expert on this very complex topic (nor do I pretend to be).

So if my assumptions about this are wrong please explain why I'm wrong. I'm honestly trying to wrap my head around this.

I'm also not making apologies for any Israeli leadership (past or present) - but this question doesn't involve them.

As I see it: Palestinian leadership has been horrifically corrupt. They all seem to end up unbelievably wealthy. PLO/Hamas/PA - doesn't matter. The leadership are all rolling in money.

As far as peace goes - any agreement that the Israelis will agree to will get Palestinian leaders assassinated by their own people.

Let's just take one very central sticking point: an unlimited Right of Return.

Everyone knows (or should know) that the Israelis will *never* bend on this one. The Israelis are just as likely to agree to all commit suicide as to allow this. However the Palestinians hold to this demand.

For an actual peace agreement the Palestinians would have to drop this demand. It's an absolute nonstarter - and yet they still insist on it. Why?

To my mind it's because it gives Palestinian leadership the perfect "out".

As long as this is a demand there'll never be peace. So the Palestinian leadership gets to keep stealing money from their people while simultaneously staying alive.

How long would someone like Abbas survive if he agreed to drop something the Palestinian people believe is their birthright?

So my belief (again - I'm not an expert this is just what I believe) is that no Palestinian leader will ever make peace with Israel - at least not until it's in their personal self interest to do so. Which means that we're not going to see a peace agreement any time soon.

I'm interested to hear other's opinions and historical facts I might not be familiar with. So anything like that - I would appreciate you all sharing.
