Over 900 U.S. Marines and Navy personnel deployed to Venezuela for humanitarian assistance. This came in response to the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes on June 24, 2026. The mission focuses on saving lives and delivering critical disaster relief.

Operations & Assets

Naval Support: Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Littoral Combat Force-24 are on-site. They are operating from the amphibious transport dock USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) and the USS Billings (LCS 15).
Air Support: Marines use MV-22B Ospreys to fly aid and teams between Curaçao and Venezuela.
Logistics: Troops brought medium military transport trucks, highly mobile off-road vehicles, and military ambulances.
Mission Goals: The Marines are setting up damaged airports, performing search-and-rescue, and moving supplies.

Command & Relief Structure

Oversight: The U.S. Department of State leads the disaster assistance. The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) directs the military support.
Funding: The U.S. has pledged over $300 million in aid. This funds food, shelter, and medical care through groups like the World Food Programme and the Red Cross.
