Pagans in Recovery Saved My Life

I went to my first meeting in January after getting a DUI New Year's Eve. I have been struggling with alcohol most of my life (I'm 44). For the previous 5 or 6 years I wanted to quit, tried on my own and failed miserably every time.

I'm in the Bible belt and considered myself an atheist so I knew the Jesus heavy AA meetings weren't for me. I saw an interestingly titled 13 Moons meeting listed and looked into it. It was a pagan's group and I thought I bet these folks will be fun and went. I resonated with everything said in the first meeting and haven't missed one yet unless work or life conflicted with me attending.

Like I said I started this process as an atheist but a few weeks in I called in the directions for the first time and got literal goosebumps. I made awesome friends in the group and was invited to and attended Imbolc, Ostara, and Beltane (I was chosen to be the Green Man!). At these rituals I started to feel my cynical self crumble and felt connected to the spiritual world for the first time in my life.

I'm still learning about and exploring this new way of life but I'm sticking with it for the rest of my life. I've never felt so connected, present and serene before and I'm proudly almost 6 months sober!

Just thought I'd share my story. This group has given me so much and I'm proud to be a member.

Best dog park in town?

Where y'all like to go? Just got a wonderful new pup and wanted to take him to play somewhere today. Live in Midtown but ok with a longer car ride.

Bonus question any idea what breed this lovable mutt is? Adopted him from the City of Prichard animal shelter. His name is Duppy.

Hints on breed:

He has a hypoallergenic coat. I normally get hives from a short hair coat dog.

Big feets lol

Thanks!

What breed could he be?

This is Duppy. Recently adopted him from an animal shelter and was curious what people thought he could be a mix of.

Hints:

Looks schnauzerish?

He got big feets

Hypoallergenic, if my skin touches short hair breeds like labs or pits I get hives. He doesn't cause that reaction.

Shelter thinks he's 4-6 months old.

Someone dumped him. 😠

He's got a great home now and I'm so happy he's joined our family!

Just adopted this wonderful sweet shy boy!

What do y'all think? I was partial to Duppy (a mischievous spirit in Afro-Caribbean culture). I get to bring him home Monday and am excited to add him to my family!
