Any kind senior please guide? Am I being oversensitive and making a mistake leaving a job?

So, I'm working in a corporate hospital now post MBBS. I'm the DMO for not an entire floor but a certain section where most of the cases are of a certain doctor. And this doctor has a couple of long standing staff...like some Bpharm person and a nurse who he has assigned to look after his cases, like he insisted and hospital agreed.

Those two are horrible to me. I stay around 8 hours in the hospital, maybe 4 hours of interaction with them. They do not let me do any of the work, they themselves assign the treatment for the patients' complaints. Rounds feel like a humiliation ritual every day, they do not even let me talk to the patient. If I try to talk to them regarding work they ignore me. They purposely make passive aggressive digs and sometimes if the guy is in a bad mood he straight up is aggressive with me. If he ends up being wrong (which he is often!) I rectify it and I don't even chastize them, but his ego gets hurt and the whole day he behaves even more aggressively. He also is hellbent on knowing my caste. They also hate me coz I don't wanna go out and spend time with them eating food and that I like to study in my free time.

They do stuff like bring ECGs and ask me to interpret, bring MRIs and ask me to interpret and then I tell the basic I know and they bring it up in front of consultant saying this is what maaadaam said hehehehehe to prove me wrong and then mock me. If I don't respond they repeat it multiple times to get my attention.

I feel very anxious, it's mostly because of the guy, the female nurse is only passive aggressive but I don't care. This guy got mad at me once and was rude to me for two days coz I refused to give him a lift on my two wheeler (I don't feel that comfortable with riding with guys I don't know)

The only good part about the job is that the doctor is quite talented and he does get very, very good cases and there's a lot to learn. I am actually so satisfied, my internship was in a hospital with low patient load. He loves to discuss the cases but the moment I talk even more than two lines they both interrupt and start talking some nonsense.

Basically the background here is these staff have been with this doctor for 5+ years through different institutions he kept bringing them, they know his family and they go to his house etc etc. I just wanna learn and go away, I'm not gonna steal their position.

But I'm either waking up with anxiety or crying in the evening because of the stress and not able to study properly. Also there's no scope for me to complain to the doctor, he kinda knows coz they do it right in front of him and he chooses to ignore, he's not gonna let go of his loyal staff for a temp DMO.

I thought I'll quit after three months, but there's this thought that fuck it, I will suffer in residency anyway why suffer now? What if I quit after just two months?

But there's also the chance to learn so much. Maybe I'm just oversensitive, this is how support staff is all the time aren't they? Also I don't wanna financially depend on my parents, I think this is how adulting is and I should suck it up like millions of other people who work miserable jobs and deal with it? And develop mental strength and study. Really confused.

Oh and the doctor is a well known name in our tier 2 city, and knows some mutual friends of my father and I don't wanna stir up any shit by quitting so soon (it's been only a month, I work quite closely with the same doctor)

Why do nurses bully young doctors?

Disclaimer: This post is heavily based on my own experiences.

Fresh MBBS grad, now working in a hospital. During my internship and now in my job I observed that nurses (female as well as male) are unnecessarily vicious towards junior doctors.

Me and my cointerns or now other junior doctors are all very chill and just come to do our work and leave. NEET PG etc etc keeps us humbled and we don't really have any ego and don't pull rank and stuff. Yet they are snide, rolling eyes when we ask them to do something in peak crowded opd, purposely not replying and walking away and making us follow them around. Don't even get me started on the gossiping behind our backs. The gossip is brutal in case of female doctors.

Meanwhile when the senior doctors come you should see how the colours change. The minute they come to rounds they panic like anything. Some of them have the audacity to come and ask us to help save their arse for not doing the very work we were nagging them to do. Then they suck up to the senior doctors, praising them like anything even though they are the ones that yell at them in the middle of the ward.

I can't tell you how many times I have gotten yelled at by consultant for a work that was not done by the nurse and the nurse for asking them to do the said work.

The behaviour is common amongst both male and female nurses btw, there's this stereotype of women nurses being passive aggressive; male nurses I found to be aggressive and will say chutiya aurat kutte jaise shakal leke aati hai etc etc assuming southies not to understand.

The way the MBBS curriculum is designed, we only know what we learnt from books or marrow. We haven't ever touched a patient before internship, clinical postings are a joke in most medical colleges. We are no match to any nurse who has even a minimum of 2 years of bedside experience doing procedures or seeing exactly which drugs are used in that particular centre and the dosage required.

In my experience I have mostly seen junior doctors eager to learn all this but they only get humiliated by the nurses, and some particular senior doctors too.

The worst part is, sometimes it feels like even the senior doctors support the nurses only. They love the sucking up and validate the nurses when they go to them with complaints against junior doctors. I get it, you are all a team and besties, but why do I have to be the enemy? They get offended at the smallest things, then they hold a grudge against you and even the senior doctor either doesn't care or also enjoys the show and trouble you.

Where I work, the consultant has this male nurse that is overconfident and he orders junior doctors around and dismisses our queries and talks down and straight up says useless don't know why you were even hired, I can do your job better. It's this and more, bullying all day long making me wanna quit but need the money. My day is panic about going to work, come home, panic about pg exam.

Once I offended nurses coz I didn't wanna eat the food out of their plate that they had touched after eating basically jhoota. I don't like to share with even my family or friends that way! For god's sake we all are in healthcare, isn't it common sense to not want to share saliva with everyone. They made it a we are all a family, we stick together etc etc and made me into some classiest / casteist villain. For having a basic boundary. The worst part is the senior doctors give them more rights, respect and power than me so for offending them I do suffer everyday.

Just my experience. I'm sure there are nicer nurses out there.

Unpopular Opinion: I actually liked Marcus Pike

And no, it's not because it's played by Pedro Pascal.

What I like the most about him is how honest and upfront he is about things. There's no dazzling charming lines and that itself is his charm. He asks her out honestly and tells her he would like to go out with her. No mixed signals from the start.

And then he plans dates for them. Like actively takes charge and arranges it around her schedule too. He comes to meet her for lunch during work and calls and texts her during the day too. He's an FBI Agent btw!!

Basically he's good natured and treats Lisbon well. Even when Lisbon was angry with Jane about not telling her about the murder charge trial thing, he tried to get her to patch up with him. And he was nice to Jane too, that bit he said about every father and husband agreeing with him..

The only flaw is with the moving to DC thing and seemingly pressuring Lisbon...I think some part of it was that writers wanted to introduce a big conflict for Jisbon which they did via moving Lisbon to DC and there was a shortage of episodes left in that season as Marcus was introduced pretty late in that season.

I'm a Jisbon fan and I had been rooting for them since episode 1 (frog). I'm happy that they got together but I wouldn't have minded seeing more of Marcus/Lisbon. Maybe they could have introduced him even earlier, from e10 or so rather than 16.

We (and Lisbon) had to see Jane with Kristina, Lorelai, Erica, a little bit of Sophie, Kim, that widow he was attracted to in season 1...and here and there a few women who kept hitting on him during cases. In contrast it looks like Lisbon is just waiting around for him, a little more Marcus relationship would have been nice

Body hair growth blocking injection

A good 10 years ago, around 2015 or 2016, I overheard one of my cousin sister saying that she got an injection on her arms and legs that will stop the hair growth as she was tired of removing it every single time.

She didn't mention a name, just said an injection. I have googled but I can't find any such thing, but this was something that was also done by one of my neighbours.

Do any of you people know what this injection is called? I know laser is the best option but I'm just curious to know

Can somebody tell NBEMS that there's no point in conducting an USMLE like examination when there's no US like education preceding it? Thanks.

From what I know US medical education is quality over quantity, enthusiastic teaching not humiliation and most importantly a very functional system.

In order to give steps, their curriculum has planned well so that they get three months to dedicatedly study for that single exam whose pattern and even minute changes are communicated well in advance. Compare this with an average aspirant from India who is frantically worrying about INI pattern, INI centre allotment, Neet pg notification, centre allotment, pattern changes, Date postponement etc etc....do you see the difference in mental load?

Most internships in India are scut work and crowd management. Most postings are about telling you to take a case and presenting it and never actually getting to the treatment part.

In an average medical College there are 100+ students, do you think all of them get the opportunity to have cases explained to them by faculty? Because if not there's no point even if they see because eyes do not see what the mind doesn't know.

I understand the reasoning behind the change. They want clinically competent doctors to pass through the entrance. My opinion is BUILD them.

Simply changing the pattern of exam without changing the foundation behind it means that it falls on stressed 23 year olds to teach themselves the complicated sciences from their study tables.

How to deal with professional victim friend

My friend has a way of becoming a victim in every situation. To the point that she lies to become that victim.

For eg: When we both were together I saw a friend of mine. She too knew them. But she always acts weird around them, so I told her I'll say hi and come back. I went to say hello, she made up a very obviously fake phone call and left. Later I heard she told our mutual friend that I abandoned her as soon as I saw the friend without even saying anything and she felt heartbroken.

Also the friend is a guy so she started speculating that I am dating him secretly.

I reached out to her and she insisted that I said no word to her and left and she felt awkward and uncomfortable and sad and hurt so I ended up apologising to her.

Another situation is when her ex got interested in me and asked her to set us up. And while she refused to set us up she had long conversations with him about me, where he was sharing what he spoke to me and how I responded. Here's the KICKER: I didn't know that he was her ex!! She had dated him secretly for a few months.

He's a friend so that's why I was talking to him and one day he directly asked me out. Thankfully my gut said no so that's what I ended up saying.

Only when I opened up, she came clean and shared what an asshole he was and when I asked her why she didn't tell me before she yelled at me saying she wanted me to make an independent decision and it wasn't her place to tell me.

Once again she made herself a victim here and just kept venting and venting about her past relationship with him and how heartbreaking this situation was for her that he asked her about me. I don't understand who asked her to be such a martyr? She could have said no and told me.

And these are just a couple examples. She very often lies to me about what I did (like gaslighting me) to talk about how hurt and upset she is and make the situation such that I have to apologise to her.

She sends long paragraphs of arguments that are very cleverly distorted from reality, such that it can't be pointed out as exact lying but it is.

For even a small thing such as me just reacting to a sticker message instead of replying and she sends paragraphs.

Most of the time she argues well and I'm the one who loses.

Got waxed for the first time at the age of 25

Ik it's a very basic thing but it's been making me super happy for 10 days so I wanna share this

I'm a PCOS girlie, hair has always been a source of shame for me.

I come from a middle class family where we hesitate to spend on frivolous things.

My mother is also very sceptical of parlours, their hygiene and the quality of products they use, she also felt such services ruin our skin. So I was always discouraged from going to parlours.

So I mostly just shaved but the hair would reappear literally the next morning 😂

Coz of this I mostly avoided sleeveless

I have no job, I'm preparing for the pg exam. So hesitant to spend my savings on this.

I had an event coming up and after a lot of deliberation I finally took the plunge and went ahead. Told myself I should atleast try it.

I am loving seeing the smooth and shiny skin! I feel sweaty a lot but I feel that's reduced ever since the wax! I literally keep rubbing my legs together to feel the smoothness.

I am just realising how self aware I was about my hair. Without even knowing I used to think about my stache whenever I got sweaty or my thick leg hair whenever my palazzo pants go up. I realised that now because my unconscious thought had to kick in to conscious when the hair was unavailable 😂

I feel getting waxed has done wonders for my confidence and most importantly reduced all that background noise I wasn't even aware of

Some questions to experienced people -

I went for rica chocolate instead of honey coz I heard Honey doesn't clean properly - do you guys think I should go ahead with honey? It's cheaper

Also I didn't feel any pain while waxing while everyone says it painful..do you guys think it's because of Rica chocolate? My eyes water when getting threaded so I don't think it's my pain resistance

Two men had us kicked out of a coffee shop

Randomly remembering an incident from my childhood. My friends and I must have been around 16 years old at that time, around 2018. We were celebrating something, I think the end of exams.

But we weren't being raucous. The celebration was just going out to eat at a coffee shop. There were three of us and we mostly just spoke. A few times we laughed but not too noisy, we all were introverts anyway. We had dressed up really well and were feeling happy.

The coffee shop was a cramped one so lots of tables nearby. You can hear murmurs from other tables. Ever since all three of us had shown up there, one table nearest to the counter with two guys, maybe in mid twenties kept scowling at us. We were at the farthest one from the counter, right near the entry door.

One of them was so enraged, he just kept turning to his food and turning back over and over and looking us up and down disgustedly when we took pictures.

Then suddenly a waiter came and asked us to go out, and we knew it was the guys at that table because they were watching it while glowering angrily at us.

We were too young and embarrassed to question anything. We grabbed our milkshakes, and my friend who ordered hot coffee just left hers and we walked out. I remember being so confused why we were the only ones being kicked out when everyone around us was more or less making the same noise.

Now that I replay his behaviour in mind, the guy was feeling insecure about himself. There was no other reason to look down at us since the moment we stepped in. Guys think they have achieved something by dressing in ratty stinky clothes and zero social skills. I'm just thinking what a small man he must be that seeing a bunch of kids feeling happy made him so viscerally insecure. The amount of rage he kept looking at us was not worth the presumed offense.

I think the coffee shop people were also chicken, they knew the guys were wrong but kicking us out was the easier way given we were kids.

Now I am in my mid twenties, and whenever I see a group of teenagers, girls or guys I just smile. Coz you can see the way they want to be adults but the excitement underneath is so clearly visible. And I remember how older women used to look at my friends and me when we went out, with a smile. Only men can be so miserable to be jealous of even kids.

How to deal with friend who ignores when I speak about myself?

L and I used to be part of a friend group that split after some fights. Now we all talk individually, and she’s the closest to me.

I’m naturally a good listener, so I always let her vent about guys, trauma, feelings, everything. I ask questions, give advice, read chats with guys, all the best-friend stuff.

But whenever I try talking about myself, she goes quiet, changes the topic, points out random things around us, or starts talking about her guy problems again.

Sometimes she even hangs up if I talk about myself for more than two minutes. She gets visibly uncomfortable.

She once said she liked me more than the old group because I was “funny” and didn’t talk about sad stuff like they did. But she’s constantly venting too — mostly about guys who have clearly told her they aren’t interested, yet she keeps chasing them.

I stayed because I don’t really have other friends, and I thought maybe I could just keep the friendship by focusing on her while dealing with my own problems alone. Plus, even if she listened, I doubt she’d actually help.

The weirdest part is she’ll still say things like, “Enough about me, tell me about yourself. How’s your health?”, so when I once brought up that she doesn't listen to me she showed this as an example. She does this once every call but anything other than my health she won't listen.

If I pursue the topic of myself she gets irritated and gives snappy advice.

I don't want to cut her off, can anyone give me more effective ways of dealing with her?

If I could do my internship all over again I would.....

Go crazy! I counted days for it to be over. But here are a few things I would have done differently -

  1. Ignore Toxicity -

Spent a huge chunk of my internship thinking about what the PG, cointern, Professor, Nurse, Clerk etc etc said to me and how I should have tackled it instead. If you are an overthinker, introvert and socially anxious like me chances are this will make you depressed all through.

Remember you as an intern cannot solve toxicity. Learn to ignore it and get out unscathed. People working in hospitals are a special breed, do not expect sophistication or even logic in their words. As a rule, if a person in a hospital acts egoistic, anger management issues etc, it is normal. Don't think twice about it.

  1. Fight for hands on - Remember that after this blissful one year...you will be applying for jobs and battling self doubt when looking at the requirements. Try your best to actually complete the clinical skills given in the logbook.

You will have to fight for it, show up early, stay late sometimes but it's worth it.

  1. Study - Yes, everyone knows this but it's kinda hard to implement along with long days of duties. I would say the bare minimum you can do right now is finishing PYQs of all subjects but if you want to watch videos etc upto you. However I would say don't go too deep, treat this as your drop year and follow the rapid revisions the droppers are doing and you can crack PG in first attempt.

  2. Save Money - If you are lucky enough to get stipend, do save some. I understand wanting to go on trips but save enough money to last you 6 months. Prep phase makes you feel like you regressed back to 12th, having to ask pocket money only drills in that feeling more.

  3. Build connections - There are so many nuances in this field that first generation doctors don't know despite all the social media available. Old school networking goes a long way. Go up to the consultant and try to discuss the case. Don't be embarrassed even if they aren't welcoming, nobody remembers interns. And if they get irritated feel sorry for them and move on.

Just a few things I wanted to share with the new batch of interns, enjoy your contract labour guys

How to learn bollywood dancing?

I'm a terrible dancer. For a lot of my life I was super self conscious and awkward even while just walking but now I have become utterly shameless. 😂

At a recent event I danced to my heart's content and then I saw the videos - I looked like a drunk uncle dancing. At least those uncles are drunk....I was not.

I wanna improve my dancing skills. I don't just wanna be decent, I want to be so good people around me are impressed. I want that good girl came out of her shell to set fire on the dance floor moment.

I don't know guys I just wanna be good at this I don't wanna feel awkward anymore in my life.

There are no good dancing classes in my tier 2 city and tbh I'm not employed right now and can't afford online classes either.

Please guide me what to do, I have 4 - 5 weddings coming up I wanna show my jalwa

Is it practical to pursue MLE after getting into PG in India

I'm preparing for NEET PG but my wish is to move abroad.

My reasons: apart from the much talked about work life balance, I also have multiple health issues that make it hard for me to do long hours of duties. I am highly introverted and workplace politics make me weep all day.

I know everyone faces these, but after discussing with my peers I realised my mental strength/ capacity for taking it is not upto the mark of where others are, i.e things that people are able to move on from within days also take me months and years to get over. I feel myself getting to a very nihilistic place and I want to do something while things are still in my control.

Now my plan is: Get into PG through NEET PG, then pursue MLE. The reason for this being my parents don't have much faith in me cracking abroad exams so I need to earn it, also I think I will be able to atleast pay for a fraction of the expenses with my stipend.

Is this doable? Anyone who has done the same let me know.

My circle is becoming only doctors despite trying not to

I'm done with MBBS and prepping for NEET PG.

Have lost touch with all my school friends, only MBBS friends left. And as you know the situation in MBBS with snakes, I have only two friends left, out of that one is acting distant.

I had a good group of school friends, most of them took engineering and commerce.

While I took drop, finished MBBS and internship and prepped for PG exam....my school mates finished degrees (yes, multiple) made friend circles with ten - fifteen people (can you imagine) and have now started going abroad vacays, proposals, fulfilling childhood dreams, getting married, BUYING GOLD, dancing in other's weddings etc etc etc

Over the years whenever we have met they all had these stories to share about the life they lived....meanwhile I had nothing except exams and attendance. I got looked down upon for it, some of them said I was still a school kid writing exams and worrying about attendance and living on pocket money.

Despite all this I tried to hold on because I knew this is how the life of a doctor goes, and I really wanted my life to be not just all doctors. I used to save my money all year for buying good clothes and the expensive cafes for the meet up.

Eventually people lost interest in my life (or lack of it) and nobody bothered to even catch-up with me anymore.

I know a lot of older doctors maintain friendships with people of all professions and I wondered why they could do it and I couldn't.

Then I realised it's because back then there was no social media, nowadays you don't do the trending things, don't wear the latest clothes or go to the places or movies that's in the hype people just get bored of you.

Thank you for coming to my rant, this is not to spread negativity.... just wanted to share.

While we wait for the AIIMS website to get better let's share

Everyone share something you studied for the exam, but it has to be maximum within two sentences.

I'll go first:

Delusion of doubles involves Fregoli Syndrome and Capgras Syndrome.

Capgras syndrome is when the patient thinks known person like his wife is someone else (negative misidentification), and Fregoli is when the patient identifies an unknown person as someone out to hurt them (positive misidentification)
