Can't figure how to fix these davits..

Bought last winter this boat with this setup with dinghy (admittedly a little oversized) on davits and a solar power on top.

Normally the dinghy is hanging horizontally but i took it up a bit in the marina.

As you can see the mounting of these davits is very fiddly. The end of it where the dinghy is attached is connected to the backstay that holds a bit of the weight (i had my rigger check it and said it's no problem).

Still, in a bit of waves those joints move a little sideways no matter how tight i tighten them up. Also i don't like how the forces pull on the rail straight outside (but well that's partially compensated by the backstay at least).

Given I don't have access to a proper workshop and the shops around me are quite useless, I've been brainstorming with no results on how to make it more stable.

Honestly, i am also considering removing them entirely and just pull the dinghy flat against the transom, which would leave me open to the issue of where tf to put the solar panel. I've been looking at solutions to mount it on the lifelines (as the rail is very limited) but as i sail 99% solo I'm also worried about obstacles where i want to get in and out of the boat quickly when mooring.

Still the idea of moving both the solar panels (i have also one annoying me on the deck) to the lifelines is very tempting. Or even moreso the idea of removing one and keeping just one as I have only low consumption 12v appliances onboard (12v small tv, led lights, instrumentation, pumps and isothermal fridge which i barely use in north of norway anyway, and i guess the main thing is the webasto but i rarely use it for extensive periods of time). I'm also connected to shore power mostly.

I've been wanting to modify this setup forever but i can't come up with a solution so any idea is welcome!

Importing permanently a sailboat in Norway

I sailed up to Lofoten in March and didn't think much of it (it is not required to import a foreign boat for temporary visits) . But in the meanwhile plans changed and I want to register the boat here. I do have the contact with the price. It's an old boat from 1978 and the value is under 200k. The closest custom office is in Bødo which isn't very close to be honest.

Is anyone familiar with this process? Is there any chance that the process can be done telematically without sailing all the way to Bodø?

Anything in particular I should expect?

Do I need a galvanic isolator for shore power?

I haven't been worrying about shore power much as I've always had it connected only at times when I'm with the boat. But now i plan to keep it connected throughout the winter to keep the batteries up and maybe a heater for when temperatures get really low.

The boat (fiberglass) is located in northern norway, where salinity is not crazy high but it is still saltwater.

I have a good victron battery charger / maintainer but no proper setup. So now I'm planning to make a nice plug for shore power with an appropriate circuit breaker.

I dont know much about galvanic isolators and was wondering if it's actually needed or if its more for steel/aluminium boats or whether i should get one?

What's the play here?

I kinda see why it's quite a bad wait for riichi but i felt like other options would slow me down too much. Mostly i don't quite understand why maka would prefer discarding the 7s to keep the 9s? Seeing it with open hands i see that would deal in but i couldn't possibly know at the time. Ideally i would just discard the 8p, keep the 667s, and wait for something else to come up. But to be honest i wouldn't know how to read this

When should I start discarding terminals in a 1-2 wait against an isolated tile?

This comes up 'fairly' often. I normally keep terminal waits until I get something better. But Maka often makes me discard the 1 in favour of an isolated tile. Which I kind of see can make sense, since keeping a 1-2 wait is quite limitating i guess? But would discarding the 1 also means i should discard the 2 after, as drawing a 3 would potentially get me in furiten later or so?

I feel like I still have a way to go to improve tile efficiency and knowing when to get rid to a terminal wait should be the next step

Which Ichihime outfit do you prefer?

I am fairly new but I have been putting in quite a few hours so I thought I'd throw in a few $$ to support the game and get something nice. And since characters are so expensive I want to get a skin for Ichihime which I really love!

I thought I'd go for Cat Warrior since it's obviously very cool but I kind of really like Spring Song too now. It looks a bit more detailed and idk.. More vibe and unique.

Just curious what you guys prefer to help me make up my mind

[Silver 4East room] Why not riichi here?

Given I realise now i was extremely lucky to tsumo the 8p, i couldn't possibly know someone had an 8p triplet in their hand and the early 5-8 wait seemed pretty good with a good hand.

Storm sail on a babystay?

Hi all! A friend of mine just got a clip on storm sail for his 28 feeter sailboat.

He plans to hoist it on the baby stay (not inner forestay which he don't have). The baby stay is attached in line with the spreaders (NOT swept back and ofc without added backstays) around half way up the mast and pretty close to the mast on the deck. This way the storm sail extends aft of the mast for roughly half its size too.

I don't think he plans to be out in actual storms at all but more of a way to depower.

He says that lots of people do use the babystay for a storm sail but i am very conflicted about this. Is this actually a thing?

Looking for something new. A small-ish box with lots of content!

Hi all! I have been reading and contributing to this sub for a long time, so i kinda feel i know about every single game in existence, but the truth is I haven't played many.

At some point i stopped getting games that my friends could maybe like and started buying games that have atleast also a solo mode.

Thing is, i live in a country and work in another. So i have most of my games back home and suddenly i find myself across the sea for weeks with lots of free time and the wrong games with me.

Table space is actually not a big issue, but box size is, as I'll have to move games around as i travel for work.

I normally like dungeon crawlers and adventure games, but i am now open also to something different. I used to like wargames a lot as a kid.

PnP and roll&write are out as i do have quite a few of them (mostly postmark games) and while i like them i value table presence and tactile part quite a lot.

At home I just had delivered (but won't be able to play until sept/oct) Fate of the Fellowship, that I'm looking forward also for multiplayer, and Radiance on the way, as i am looking forward to a heavier game (i loved lotr lcg but it felt too little replayable and didn't want to go down the rabbit whole).

Among my favs I have Bullet❤️, Bag of Dungeon 2, All is Bomb.

Last year I got Endeavor Deep Sea, not sure how much i loved it as euro game and I do love it! I play it a lot, although the brutal win conditions feel often frustrating.

Recently, here at work, I got A gentle rain, which i play often and love, and Kinfire Delve, which I was hoping would keep me company for many hours, but to my surprise I don't really like it. I like the gameplay loop but not a big fan of art and character design, and the last games got wrecked but insanely bad roll streaks that really frustrated me. Idk.

So I'm pretty much open to anything. I'm actually VERY tempted to get Deckers, which they have in a store closeby, by they want 70€ for it. And while I'm not THAT bothered by paying the price, that's like double the normal retail price (given in Norway everything is a little more expensive).

I've been looking at the white castle too. Not sure what to think of it.

I tries a while back One Deck Dungeon, but also didn't quite like it. Although fantasy stuff like this should be really up my alley.

So yeah just throwing out a blind hook here. Availability might also be somewhat of a concern, but i see they have deckers (70€) closeby and the white castle (40ish€). Not sure what else.

Not really into marvel and superhero themes, but I'd like some space themed game

Today I celebrate 1000NM with my new boat!

Bought this beauty in december, got it ready and sailed it up from Denmark starting middle of march!

Stopped in Ålesund for work 3 weeks, then I had two friends visiting for a little more than a week, where we took it easy and enjoyed the weather and sailed up slowly. These last few days I have been sailing up north more and I'm now in the beautiful little town of Berg, close to Brønnøysund. Tomorrow i should have roughly 8h of motoring (no wind on the forecast) to get to the marina where I have arranged to leave the boat as i fly back to work my next shift.

But as of last night I have officially crosse 1000 Nautical Miles with her! About 90% of which single handed.

It's been a lot of conflicted feelings. The solitude of sailing in late winter in the cold for days while watching pictures of friends having bbq in their t shirts, and the inevitable finding of more or & less small problems that you'll expect on a 60yo boat. Fixing new leaks, panicking while trying to see if some small delaminations are structural or not, finding out the engine filters have not really been changed often...

And also the joy of getting to know the boat. The relaxing times reading a book on calm days, and the excitement of surfing down big waves in 35kn winds as you gain more confidence and learn to appreciate her comfortable motion and how she hugs you and keep you safe.

And the quiet evenings at anchor or at port as all the world goes to sleep and you have your little cozy cave floating on the water..

Volvo penta marine inboard leaking diesel out of exhaust

Hi all! My new old boat's MD11C engine actually runs great. But it's a bit hard to start, makes a lot of smoke at start, but mostly it just keeps leaking fuel (could be oil but i doubt it) either out of the exhaust or together with the saltwater of the cooling system but I'd guess the first. I do also feel like fuel consumption is higher than it should be.

So far I have replaced all filters (which clearly had not been replaced in a while) and i removed the injectors and got them cleaned and checked by professionals (they said pressure test was good).

I'm a bit at a loss on what to do now. Mechanics in these area are few and expensive and it's a bit hard to get appointments and move the boat there.

Any idea what could be the cause? I'm thinking of adjusting the valves next and eventually changing the piston rings and checking head gasket. But these last ones I'd do in the winter when I'll have plenty of time. I'm not very expert but I'm learning and I'm good with tools

Getting up to hull speed

Hi all!

I have fairly recently switched from a 28ft to an old 5.5ton 34 feeter. It's a medium weight ocean racer/cruiser which I'm really liking.

It has a theoretical hull speed of 7kn, but I find it actually pretty rare to reach it. With the old md11c 28hp engine i cruise finely at 6-6.2kn at 2000rpm (max 2500rpm), and when sailing I mostly also comfortably reach around 6kn, but i think i can count the times i got over 6.5kn.

For example a couple days ago we had some nice wind like 15-16kn of tws (close to 20kn of aws) on a close reach, and i think we could only get between 6 and 6.5kn of speed.

I did get over 7 a few times in pretty overpowered conditions.

So now I'm just wondering how easy it should be to reach hull speed. Is it something that i should achieve pretty easily or if it's normal to only get there with pretty strong winds.

The hull is clean but the sails are pretty worn out. The genoa is ok but the main while solid is really blown out i can tell that it really doesn't keep the shape that should have. So I'd be inclined to think of that as the main reason but having no experience on other boats I'm just wondering

Considering repowering my 1978 34ft running her original md11c engine. Which engines should i look at?

Hello everyone. Recently bought an Aphrodite 34 from 1978 now in Norway and she obviously has her needs.

She is running an MD11C that is actually running great but has quite a bit of issues. Leaks a bit of either fuel or oil through the exhaust especially at start, takes a long time to start and makes a lot of smoke at start. While warm those symptoms don't disappear fully but get much less noticeable, but otherwise it runs very fine.

I have been doing some work on it, replacing all filters (fuel filters were clearly not replaced in a good while) and took down to clean and pressure check injectors which turned out to be in perfect condition.

The engine is fresh water cooled, some hosing as well as the exchaust elbow have been changed recently, but i also find some little leaks of oil/oily water from an air filter as well as at the bottom of the engine room every time and for the love of me i can't figure them all out.

Anyway, it's getting hard to find spare parts for it and while I'll try to fix it up and take care I'm also starting to considering getting a new/rebuilt engine maybe not this coming winter but the next one where I'll take the boat back south where i know some reliable mechanics that i can trust both in skill and price.

Don't want to spend that much for this old boat but was wondering what kind of engine i should look for, as the boat currently mounts the volvo S110 saildrive and I'm not sure if i need to find engines compatible with that, or if there is a yanmar engine with the same/similar size of it that can be adapted or how it works?

Kinfire Delve (Scorn's Stockade) - Super fun delve, unsetting final battle.

Hi all! Recently got Scorn's Stockade as my first and (so far) only entry of the serie after it being in my wishlist forever.

It's clear the game has been really thought out and fine tuned, although I'm flabbergasted they did not make the effort to fix the boss' challenge card "The Witness" in the new print. As for errata it should have a penalty of "discard a card" on failed challenge but it still shows as no penalty while going through the effort of lowering production quality.

It is also clear that the game kinda wants you to get more boxes for variety. It really wants to play double handed and ofcourse having more characters would greatly help with variety. This is fair enough given the low price point of the single box. I find it great to get a complete fun game for a good price with the chance to expand on it if you want.

The delving part is soo much fun! Luck is easily mitigated and if you play your cards right you can pretty much take off relying on dice rolls from the equation. Challenges are fun and discarding cards to delve further down the well feels super rewarding.

I'm not a big fan of these 2 characters but I find their cards fun to play.

But then you get to the boss and that's where everything goes to shit. Rolling darkness on the light/dark die (50% chance) will rain on you misery and nothing sucks more than going through your few available rerolls just to keep losing the 50-50 in a bad streak costing you the game.

That's it. Rolled light? Good! Gonna roll darkness a couple times in a row? Well sucks to be you see you on the next game I guess.

The divergence in how much this game relies on luck during the delving phase and the boss battle is somewhat disheartening.

That said, I love how quick the setup is and it's fun to get to the table and just play, so losing a 20-30mins game due to bad rolls isn't the end of the world and I definitely can see me playing this more than enough to get my money's worth

Hello everyone, I haven't logged in in a while so I'm not sure when this happened, but i see i am now required to verify with BankID, which I don't have.

Is this now mandatory or am i missing something?

I did have one for a period of time but that was a mistake from my ex bank with which i had a lot of troubles and i ended up closing the account and transferring to another one that does not offer bankID. I'm in the process of obtaining a fødselsnummer but being a liveaboard despite having worked here 4 years and having now a full time contract they are making the process really difficult as i do not have a stable address, but that's another story..

I've had kinfire delve on my list since forever. But first was out of stock, then i ordered it along with fate of the fellowship which went out of stock.

After months of wait, i just cancelled the order and bought them on different shops.

Fate of the fellowship has arrived in my home country so I'll be away from it for a few months, but in the meanwhile i got these 2 delivered at my workplace!

I ordered a gentle rain as i see it talked so much. It really is truly a beautiful game! Just had a game this morning after waking up with the sound of the birds outside the window and it's such a relaxing puzzle!

I'm also excited to finally try out kinfire delve when i have a little more time. It does seem like it's the new print with what people say is a lower production quality. It seems good enough but the dice are super light and the cards seem regular linen cards. Don't really have other versions to compare it with but it looks like pretty standard quality. Good but not outstanding i guess?
