RER D terminus at Paris Gare de Lyon surface platforms

Due to works in the tunnels between Gare du Lyon and Gare de Nord (renewal of 40 switches), the RER D is separated into two parts with no train interconnecting between the southeastern and northern suburbs. (Northern service are terminating at Gare du Nord surface platforms).

Even with a reduced service, Gare de Lyon is struggling to cope with the situation. Before 1980, suburban trains terminated on the surface platforms of the Gare de Lyon and then were moved to underground platforms were to free up space for the TGV and increase capacity. Since then suburban traffic has greatly increased.

In any case, it's amusing to see the RER sharing the same platform as the TGV.

Paris metro line 4. Wrong-line and parallel running at Barbes Rochechouart station

In April 2026, the replacement of switches on Line 4 required the closure of the line between Châtelet and Barbès–Rochechouart. The southern terminus of the northern section of Line 4 was Barbès–Rochechouart, where the reversing switch is located just north of the station.

This explains how two trains can arrive at the same time on stations: one arrives from the north to let passengers disembark, while the second returns to the boarding platform to pick up passengers before heading north again. For better passenger flows, the operator chosed to use separate platforms for boarding and disembarking.
