Omnilux Labor Day Sale?

I swear that yesterday, 8/17, I either saw an ad or received an email from Omnilux that had Labor Day Sale prices and that on their website, the Contour was about $295, which is an incredibly good price. Now I’m not seeing it anywhere. Am I crazy? Did I dream it?

Spa recommendation for 25 year old

Hi, all. I’m hoping you can help, as I don’t live in the Philly area.

I’m buying a birthday present for my BFF’s daughter who just took the bar and starts at a Philly law firm next month. I’m thinking a gift certificate for a facial or a massage or something similar. Can anyone recommend a nice spa for a 25 year old? She lives in Center City and doesn’t drive, so she gets around by walking, public transportation or Uber.

I searched this thread for recent spa discussions and now have Fabriq and Rescue on my list of possible choices. Would you recommend one over the other for a 25 year old? Anything else I should add to the list?

Onederland!

Yippee! I haven’t been in Onederland for about 15 years. This also marks about halfway to GW. I started at 270 and I’m using 130 as my GW, but that’s subject to change as I get closer.

64F, taking the last shot of month 15 tonight, all 2.5.

Interesting comment from my endocrinologist about going down in dosage (not in maintenance)

I saw my endocrinologist today for my every 6 months visit.

I’m starting month 15 of 2.5 tonight. I’ve lost 65 lb in those 14 months and have maybe another 75 to go. The food noise disappeared after the first shot and never came back and I have a reasonable level of appetite. On average, I’m losing at the bottom of the .5%-1% of body weight range. I absolutely subscribe to the lowest effective dose approach, so there doesn’t seem to be any reason to go up. But it would certainly be nice to be losing at the top end of the healthy range and every so often I wonder if going up to 5 would be a good idea.

So I asked my endocrinologist what she thinks. Not her exact words, but she more or less said “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” But then came the interesting comment. She said if you go up, aren’t tolerating it well and want to come back down, the lower dose you’re returning to may not work as well as it had been. I don’t think I’ve ever read here about someone experiencing that problem. I didn’t bother asking her if that info was from studies or just her prescribing experience because I had already decided to stay on 2.5. But I figured I’d pass it along.

LG refrigerator

A couple of months ago, our 12-ish year old LG refrigerator started making funny noises when it was dispensing water. My husband checked with some or another AI, maybe Co-Pilot, and came to the conclusion that it’s probably something about some valve (he said, I just haven’t retained it) and could be safely ignored unless something bad happened.

Today, it started leaking when it dispenses water, a nice little puddle on the floor. So now we need a repair. I checked the LG website and I have a choice of a flat rate repair, $400, incl parts and labor, from an LG technician and using LG parts or calling an authorized LG service center, ie, some appliance repair place in the area. Assume I can get the name of a good service center, someone with whom a friend has had a good experience. There’s also the appliance repair service we usually use and with whom we’ve been happy. They’re not an authorized service center and I don’t know if it matters.

Obviously, it’s a gamble, but what do you think? Flat rate or pay for actual parts and labor and hope it comes to under $400? And if we’re doing flat rate, do I care if it’s an authorized service center?

Thank you!

The magic of pedicures

Yesterday, I posted venting about my minor, somewhat tongue-in-cheek frustration with my scale. Wednesday, I weighed 208. Yesterday, Thursday, which I use as my official weigh in day (rather than changing my weight in various trackers several times per week), I weighed 209. Grrr.

Today, Friday, I weigh 207.

I can only conclude that not exercising, but getting a pedicure, as I did yesterday, is the secret fat burner we never knew about.

Stupid scale!

Thursdays are shot day and Official Weigh In Day. Thursday’s weight is the one I enter in all the places I track my weight. I sometimes weigh myself on other days, just out of curiosity. (I always weigh myself first thing in the AM, naked, after peeing and before I have anything to drink.

Yesterday (Wednesday), I was at 208.2. Down 1.8 pounds from last week, towards the high end of the healthy range. Yay! Today, Official Weigh In Day, 209.2. Boo!!

Stupid scale! Clearly all its fault.

In reality, I know the scale is fine and that I didn’t gain a pound of fat overnight, that there are reasons this happens and that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. But still, don’t you hate when that happens?

Losing weight but bad cholesterol rising is likely normal and temporary

I’ve lost 55 lb. This has allowed me to decrease my bp meds and has brought my fasting glucose down to normal from high. I’m delighted, of course, but was frankly a little pissed off that my bad cholesterol numbers, which were already kind of high, were going in the wrong direction.

But I recently learned that this is a known phenomenon when losing a lot of weight. As fat cells shrink, they release cholesterol into the blood stream. Once weight has stabilized, cholesterol will fall, assuming no underlying genetic factors leading to high cholesterol.

The idea of rubbing extra product on the backs of my hands makes perfect sense. But when I’m done with skincare, I want to wash my hands. I try to just soap and rinse my palms, but I feel like I’m still probably washing or rinsing off the products I just put on.

What am I missing? How do you manage this?
