Become The Warm Jets - Current Joys
It's late at night, it's been one of those days, & I'm in need of some solace. 'Warm Jets' is supposed to be about how the nostalgic comforts of the past can help you escape from the troubles of the present, yet trap you at the same time. Right now for me, it's more about how the troubles of the present are clouding the future to a point where there is only a bleak blankness ahead....
My only comfort right now is this song; which is like warm, tender hug on a cold, lonely night. If depression had a voice, it would probably sound like Nick Rattigan.
The Conversation (Left Out) (2019) by Malcolm T. Liepke
I love the interior worlds inhabited by the subjects in Liepke's paintings, as well as the subjects themselves. Whether it's lively social interactions, a moment of tender or sensual intimacy between a couple, or glimpses of introspection, boredom, loneliness, or discomfort in the faces of solitary figures in a crowd; Liepke evokes a range of human emotions, capturing his subjects at their rawest & most vulnerable.
The beauty of this particular painting (which is deeply significant to me) is that the story or meaning depends on each beholder. It's one which requires you to go beyond the surface of what's shown to reach your own understanding & interpretation of what's going on between the three figures.
I Didn't Know - Skinshape
Been obsessed with this melancholic, nostalgic & bittersweet beauty of a song by Skinshape for the past couple of months. Love the weirdly wonderful video too, with stop-motion animation by Kendra Morris.
Symphonia IX - Current Joys
One thing that's consistent about Current Joys & the vulnerability in Nick's voice, is that they never fail to bring me to tears....
Drive - Deftones
Who's gonna pay attention
To your dreams?
In The Mood For Love
Since telephone boxes aren't a thing anymore, it's always nice to see these iconic red K6 kiosks whenever I'm in town. I love how they've been preserved & used as decorative local landmarks. This particular makeover with the "love" sign kinda reminds me of the famous LOVE sculpture in Love Park, Philadelphia.
Found this bad boy in Lidl today
Except, it was a sheep in wolf's clothing; more sweet than heat. Just wish they were actually as hot as they looked. Would've been a decent crisp otherwise.
Anyone else tried these or any of the other "hot chilli" crisps on offer? Lidl seems to be on a Japanese kick lately, as there was a whole aisle dedicated to Japanese snacks.
