i’m leaving the childcare industry

after 7 years, i’m leaving childcare. i’ve been working in nurseries since i was 16 and at first, it was my dream job. it still is actually, because i’m not leaving because of the children. i actually love the children and i’m heartbroken about leaving them. it’s everything else

i’ve worked in 4 different places and i’ve seen questionable things at every single one of them. i’ve had a director who told us to give smaller portions to the children and avoid giving seconds because of budget reasons. this is a millionaire with several businesses. he’d also never buy toys for the children and encouraged staff to create toys with the kids instead

i’ve had several coworkers who were verbally abusive and neglectful of the children. i’ve had coworkers show up to work high, i’ve had coworkers threaten the children and i’ve had coworkers be very rough and even hit the children. we’re always so short staffed management give anyone with a pulse a job and don’t fire people unless they have to

i’ve worked with a man who i am 100% sure was sexually abusing the children and sexually harassed me and some other girls. he was also racist to the children and made inappropriate sexual comments around them. he was good friends with the manager and she denied everything when we reported it so even though we took it further, he was let off with a slap on the wrist and a transfer. he’s still allowed to work with children

ratios are always exceeded and the well behaved children never get enough attention because our focus is preventing the SEN children from hurting others and themselves. we never get to actually play and bond with the children because there’s never time and there’s not enough bodies. we get zero support with the SEN children and get physically abused on the daily.

we’re made to lie about observations and parent feedback. i actually worked in a place where we were banned from telling a parent their child had been crying . there’s so many occurrences where nappies haven’t been done and it’s been lied about. i’ve been told to hide accidents that haven’t left a mark from the parents who tend to complain

the management treat you like utter shit, and favouritism is rife. the favourites will get away with everything and are allowed to leave the room out of ratio whilst they chill in the office. most parents are lovely but some of them act like you’re beneath them and shout at you for making a simple mistake

so i’m leaving the industry. i don’t know what i’m going to do next but i am utterly devastated. i’m going to miss working with little ones so much, i love children and always will. it was never their fault and i feel bad that parents pay so much in fees to have their children neglected or at best, ignored

i will NEVER put my child in childcare and i know that’s a privileged thing to say, but i’ve seen too much. i couldn’t let myself do it and honestly, i’d advise most mums to stay at home if they’re able. the industry is a joke and it’s the children that pay for it. reporting anything gets you nowhere

corner shop employee shared CCTV footage of me, what can i do? england

i’ll start by saying that i am legally old enough to buy alcohol

my family are very conservative muslims, and i am not. i live about 5 minutes away from the asda my old mosque teacher is some sort of supervisor at and i regularly buy alcohol from there. she knows my family and my mum very well. stupid of me in hindsight i know

i usually only buy cocktail cans so i can hide them easily but i was going to my mate’s house so i bought a massive bottle of vodka

i went to the self checkout and obviously the age verification thing went off and the person who came to check my ID was her. i knew she recognised me but i wasn’t too worried because if she said anything i’d tell my family it was a case of mistaken identity

wrong. she sent CCTV footage of me buying the vodka to my mum and basically sent a message saying i was bringing shame on my family by doing haram things. there’s no way i can lie because it’s obvious as to what i’m buying

my parents are PISSED, and they’re threatening to kick me out and never speak to me again. i am in deep deep shit and i hate that there’ll be no consequences for that employee. is there anything i can do to at least make her lose her job, if nothing else!

how can i find my cousin?

in 2002-2004, my uncle had a daughter that he kept secret for years because he had her outside of marriage. my aunt only found out about her because she answered a call on his mobile asking him for nappies. it’s been kept a secret since

i know her first name, and that she works in a nursery in kings heath. i don’t know if she still works there but that’s all i have to go off. he didn’t live with the mum and lived in smethwick at the time

ive paid for ancestry and other genealogy services with no luck. i’ve pored over records and been to the library to search for anything that could help me find her with no luck

my only option left is to just phone all of the nurseries in my city and hope that she still works there and wants to get in touch but im sure it’s obvious as to why i want to explore other options before i do that

if anyone has any advice i’d appreciate it. i need to find her, she’s family. if this could be you pls get in touch haha

how do you feel when an employee cries in front of you?

i have been having a lot of disagreements with one of my colleagues and my deputy manager called us into her office to talk about it

she spoke to me alone first and the tears started then. i cry easily when i’m upset and i can’t control it after. then my coworker arrived and the meeting started and i cried again during it

i’m so embarrassed because usually i can hold it in until im alone but i couldn’t today. she was there for the whole thing and it was so embarrassing

i don’t know how i’m going to face her tomorrow, especially since my coworker was so chill and didn’t seem bothered while i was literally sobbing. please help me feel better

i hate my dependency on balm dotcom </3

with the rate glossier discontinue products at i’m always SO scared that they’ll get rid of balm dotcom. it’s the only product that works for me and i remember how awful i felt when the vegan formula came back

i’ve tried EVERYTHING in case they pull a stunt like that again so i have a good replacement and i’m sad to say nothing comes close. i’ve found a replacement for everything else but balm dotcom and i hate it

i’ve tried chanel, dior, rhode, summer fridays, laniege, lanolips, ole henriksen and nothing has worked. i’ve even gone drugstore and used carmex, burts bees and blistex. NOTHING is as good as balm dotcom is

wanting to leave my nursery job, what should i do next?

i’m a nursery worker with a level 3 in childcare. i’m 23 and have done the job since i was 16 as an apprentice. i’m currently a room leader but am wanting to leave the childcare industry completely because i dislike how staff and children are treated

i do still want to work with little people and so i don’t know what to do next. i can’t stand to apply for another nursery job and i’d quite like to go to university. i don’t know what i’d do though

the options seem to be teaching, social work or nursing. i don’t want to do teaching and nursing seems like an equally bitchy and toxic environment

i don’t know if it’s worth going to uni. nobody in my family has been and they’re of the belief that a degree is unnecessary as long as you have a job

i’m not looking to be rich, but i want my own house and a car because i’ve only ever lived in council estates so having a house would mean that i’ve made it. the future is really uncertain and i need to make a decision quickly so i can apply for 2027 entry

what would you do?

people who hate cooking, how do you cope?

it’s my worst adulting task to this day. i only cook once a week and live off leftovers for the rest of the week and yet i still dread cooking sundays. i’ve actually skipped dinner many times because i didn’t want to cook

i really just hate it. standing in asda with my ingredients fills me with dread. i hate the cleanup and i hate everything about it besides the eating part. i can’t believe i have to feed myself until i die. wtf. i have no idea how people do this everyday
