I think I heard someone inside my house at 3 AM and I still can’t explain it

I recently moved into a new house with my family, and something happened this morning that genuinely shook me. For context, I leave for work around 3:00 AM, so everyone in my house is always asleep by the time I’m getting ready. This morning I took a shower, got dressed, and the house was completely dark except for the dim bathroom light upstairs. As I was finishing up upstairs, I suddenly heard someone cough downstairs. Not just a little throat clear it was a distinct cough. The thing that terrified me was that it didn’t sound like anyone in my family. I’ve lived with them long enough to recognize their voices and coughs, and this sounded completely different.
I froze. I stood there for a few seconds, barely breathing, trying to listen. Then I heard what sounded like slight movement downstairs. It wasn’t loud, but enough to convince me I hadn’t imagined the cough. At that point I started yelling, “Who’s there?” over and over.
No answer. I worked up the nerve to go downstairs anyway. I turned on every light I could, opened every room, checked every closet, and even opened the front door to see if anyone had run out. Nothing. Then I checked on every single member of my family. Every one of them was in bed, dead asleep. We have security cameras facing the front of the house, so I checked those before leaving for work. Nobody walked up to the house, nobody left, nothing looked unusual at all. The only place I didn’t check was the backyard because our back door blocks outside noise really well, so I figured if someone had been out there, I probably wouldn’t have heard them coughing from inside.
Now I’m sitting at work replaying it over and over in my head. I know houses make weird noises, but this wasn’t a creak or pipes settling. It sounded exactly like a person coughing, followed by what I thought was someone moving around. I’m a pretty rational person, so I’m trying not to jump to paranormal conclusions. My brain keeps going back to more realistic possibilities, maybe someone was outside near a window, maybe I misjudged where the sound came from, or maybe someone somehow got in and left before I got downstairs but none of those explanations completely make sense to me. Has anyone experienced something like this after moving into a new house? What would you do in my situation? I’m honestly pretty paranoid now, especially knowing I’ll be leaving at 3 AM again tomorrow.
