A reminder of our direct service to Christ
My family in Christ,
I‘d like to share something with you if the good mods here feel it is appropriate. (One of the rules says no requests for action but I thought maybe that means for specific events or such, please correct me if wrong).
A humble reminder that temperatures in many states in the US are very high. Being outside in 100 degree weather for extended times can cause death. The poorest amongst us are homeless with perhaps no escape from this threat. I’d like to invite you to join me in helping them and honoring Christ. If you can only bring them water and love please do. If you have been financially blessed in life this is an opportunity to exchange that into the currency of the soul and help them with a night or two in a hotel.
I’ve been driving around the last few days looking for homeless people and found some relief in not finding them out in the areas near me they might usually be found. I think the city might have opened emergency services. I was very happy for this. Then today I saw him….
I was heading home relieved that I had not found anyone today again. There is a place where they had mowed into an overgrown area so workers could reach the poles and transformers. As I drove by I glanced into it and saw the bottoms of two feet! I proceeded to pull over and park in the next lot (a church and I believe that means something in this context), grabbed a case of water and started walking back. In minutes I was drenched with sweat. Dear Lord, I would not have lived today if subjected to this heat. I’m sure of it.
As I got to the clearing and walked in my heart sunk. I could see this person was laying on his back with his legs together and arms stretched out to his sides (again I personally found meaning here). What made my heart sink was I realized the person had a winter coat on (!) and as such I thought I had just discovered a body.
I said hey are you ok I’m just bringing you some water friend and they sat right up. His face was red from heat, he looked soaked and exhausted. He spoke well and out of respect I will not share much detail from our conversation there except that he was cordial, intelligent and based on a few factors I think he might have had some mental illness. He had just gotten out of the hospital. I got him to get out of the coat and tried to give him the case of water but would only take 3 of them as he said he needed to find somewhere to go so he wouldn’t be able to carry all of them.
I shared some local resource options on my phone, shared my background and tried to plant some hope. By the time we were done talking, 10 minutes, I felt like I was going to pass out. Christ worked through me in that moment and I was able to help him so he could get into a hotel room with AC. He never asked for that, he never asked for more. He was so humble. I wish I could have done more for him and I will keep an eye out for him now.
Is your story like mine friends? Did you perhaps suffer hardship and poverty and then work hard and find yourself blessed in life with security? If so I implore you to consider physically going out and helping others directly today and the next two or so days. Don't put yourself in harms way if you’re not a sizable guy like me. Instead go out to community organizations and help them in any way you can. Christ calls upon us to be representatives that commit to action, not when we are least needed but right now when we are most needed. As many of you surely know helping others will also fill your own heart with a Holy feeling of the kind no amount of money can buy. Thank you friends if you have read to here and are considering action. We are Christ’s hands! Glory to God!

I am a huge Ratt and Whitesnake fan… how the heck did I not know Warren was in the band for a brief moment?? Makes me wonder what could have been as far as songs if that had worked out. 🤘🎸
