Eye rolling tic and headaches?

I’ve got a tic that causes me to roll my eyes upwards. Usually it’s more uncomfortable than painful, but sometimes I’ll get these headaches behind my eyes (or just one eye more often) that makes it hurt to roll my eyes back. I’m curious if anybody else gets this and has any advice. I can’t tell if it’s like an eye strain thing or unrelated headaches that my tics are just making worse. It’s quite annoying and painful and advil doesn’t really do much 😩

Any advice?

Hydration?

How do you all go about getting good hydration for your blueberries? I have such picky beetles and I’ve been worrying about them. They won’t eat fruit/veggies unless they’ve been in there a few days and are dried up, when I mist the corner of the tank I never see them drink it (though they may) and it always messes up the humidity in my 10 gal. They also do not like beetle jelly or most wet foods. I tried a wicking system at one point but they never used it and it also just ended up messing with the humidity. Any advice appreciated!!

Realized people don’t assume I have tics and just think I’m weird

I don’t usually mention my tics to people because I just don’t really like talking about it. I was talking to somebody at a party a bit ago and mentioned my tics, and they told me they didn’t realize I had them. And I was like, “really? Ive been making weird noises all night!” Long story short, I’ve realized that people absolutely do notice my tics, they just assume I’m being weird/annoying/intentionally making weird noises and gestures. I mean, when I think about it it feels obvious. Obviously not that many people are actually educated on tic disorders, obviously a lot of people aren’t going to just go up and ask what’s wrong with you. It still feels so disheartening though.

I don’t know. I guess it’s making me ruminate on all the times I must’ve seemed so strange and potentially messed up social interactions just because I never said that the random yelps and head shakes and whatever else were involuntarily. There could have been plenty of friends I didn’t make simply because I never explained it and they assumed I was just, for lack of a better word, weird. I think i’m gonna start mentioning it more often, but I don’t really know how to casually bring it up. Im just feeling sad about it all :(

Tics and PMDD?

Anybody else here have pmdd? I have it really severe (I especially get severely anxious and suicidal) and it always worsens my tics too, which just triggers my irritability really bad. Normally I’m quite good at just ignoring my tics unless it’s a really bad day, but on my period I feel so much more aware and they get on my nerves so much worse. I also think my premonitory urges get worse. Like some nights I’ll struggle to sleep because the physical urges are so bad and uncomfortable, but I can’t tic or ticcing won’t make them go away, and the frequency of this increases before my period. I just got out of a phase of it and it made me curious how many here experienced a pre-menstrual exacerbation, or just pmdd generally.

Help figuring out what’s happening in my cycle?

I dont know why Im posting this. Im being irrational right now so I might delete later. Im sorry if none of this makes sense.

Im 20 and have both pcos and pmdd. I’m on continuous birth control (Vienva) though it’s not great and I’m planning to switch. I had like breakthrough bleeding 2 weeks ago that led to a mini little pmdd episode that lasted a few days before I felt better. Now last night was hell and I think I’m experiencing more pmdd stuff but it’s really confusing because I had a clear episode signaled by breakthrough bleeding. I think this one is also hormonal because I’m also in the middle of a bad acne breakout. Honestly, I’m just truly not having a good time of it and need to be told that this is hormonal so I can feel as if this may actually end. I think my cycle is just fucked up and irregular, but my brain is convincing me that because the past month it’s been really weird and random that it’s not pmdd and I’m just like this now. I need to know this won’t last.

Upgraded to a 10 gal

I have 4 blueberries, though I’d like to get more if I can find some captive bred in the future! I now have a free 5.5 gallon and I’d love another invert pet if anyone has recs for what I can keep in there :)

Does anybody have experience with I-CBT

I’ve been looking into it and I’d really appreciate if anyone was willing to share their experiences.

I was diagnosed with OCD at 10, and completed exposure therapy in middle school. To not go into too much detail, it was not a good experience for me. Turns out exposure therapy doesn’t really help much when you’re coerced and threatened into it. Now I’m 20 and finally looking into seeking treatment again, and just lost my trust in ERP therapists. I’ve been reading about I-CBT and am really interested in the therapy. As a kid I had mainly compulsions, but now my main issue is pure-o which also makes me think I-CBT might help me more than just exposures. I don’t even know how I’d go about exposures with my current themes being entirely in my head.

(To clarify: ERP is great and I’m not against it. It just also requires a good therapist who knows what they’re doing, which I did not have.)

How do I stop hating myself?

Maybe this is the wrong place to put this, I just honestly have nobody to talk to and need advice.

I’m 20, I’m 210 lbs at 5’6 and I hate myself so much and I don’t know how to feel good about myself. I can’t even look into weight loss without an intense feeling of dread and shame in my gut. Ive been overweight my entire life, and was identified as likely having pcos for the first time at 14. My entire life before that doctors just told me I was overweight and needed to exercise/eat healthier and I never understood why it was so hard for me. I’ve hated myself since I was a kid and no matter how much I try I don’t know how to feel better. I have bad acne even birth control hasn’t fixed. I’m autistic too so never fitting in doesn’t exactly help.

This feels like a completely fucked thing to say, but if I didn’t have such bad cravings I think I would have an eating disorder at this point. I’ve tried multiple times throughout my life and just couldn’t keep up with it, and then only felt worse because I couldn’t even commit to that. I don’t know what I’m trying to say. I just feel like shit and don’t know how to fix this, or how to feel good about myself, or anything. I’m so tired.

Premonitory urges triggering anxiety

Like title says, I feel like the premonitory urges of my tics in itself is causing me anxiety. On worse tic days the feeling of build up and tenseness of my muscles, even when I’m not suppressing, makes my anxiety worse. I assume it’s like the reverse of how intentionally relaxing your body makes anxiety better through whatever mind-body connection stuff. And that anxiety obviously makes my tics worse too.

Does anyone have any advice for making the urges themselves less triggering, or is that even possible? Weed really helps me with calming my premonitory urges especially, but I don’t want to rely on it so I’m looking for other strategies.

Picky eaters?

Anybody else have real picky beetles? Mine like honeydew and cucumbers sometimes, and then sometimes fish flakes and bee pollen (they each have their own personal tastes). I’m struggling a lot trying to find some easy universally loved foods. I rarely see them eating and it stresses me out. I’m struggling especially with protein, and I want to make sure they’re getting enough. I’ve tried blood worms, freeze dried crickets, canned crickets, beetle jelly, a bunch of other fruits, boiled chicken, and probably some others I’m forgetting. I’ve seen them nibble at some of these but mostly leave them alone. Any recommendations of things to try?

Tips for pinning ironclad beetles?

One of my blue death feigning beetles (Asbolus verrucosus) passed away about a month ago. She’s been in the freezer for preservation, but I’d really like to pin her as a little memorial. I have some experience pinning moths, cicadas, and softer beetles from when I interned at an insect collection, but I’ve never pinned an ironclad beetle before. I know they’re hard to pierce, and I’ve never pinned an insect from frozen before, so any advice is appreciated!

Anybody else hate artificial sweeteners?

This might be more a bitter gene thing than an autism thing, but I was curious if the autistic crowd disliked them more than neurotypicals. I despise artificial sweeteners. They taste almost poisonous to me — bitter and too sweet at the same time.

It’s gotten really annoying as they’ve increased in popularity, since for things like caffeinated drinks and healthier treats I’d much rather just have less sugar in it than have it all be replaced with artificial sweeteners. I was recently told to get more protein by my doctor so I was looking for protein drinks, and it was so frustrating that they all had sweeteners I couldn’t stand. I’d rather they just tasted unsweet. I’m currently having similar issues trying to find toothpaste without the sweeteners I hate the taste of.

This is mostly a vent/me complaining, but I’m wondering if anyone else feels similarly. Also if anybody reading this has toothpaste recommendations that don’t make you gag, please comment them lol.

I hate when things make me feel too strongly

As said in the title. It doesn’t matter if the feelings are good or bad, I just find really intense emotions extremely uncomfortable. Like if a series related to my special interest came out, I might avoid watching it because I know I’ll feel too excited and it will just be overwhelming. Or when reading books I’ll put them down for days at a time because they’re making me too emotional and it’s such an unpleasant sensation. It took me 2 months after Silksong came out to play the game because I felt too strongly about it and needed time to process first.

Does anybody else feel similarly? Any advice for getting over it?

Parents didn’t like me talking about my tics

Like the title says. For background, I probably had mild tics for a while as a kid that were just mistaken for OCD, but when I was about 14 they amped up enough that I started to realize something was off. Technically I was never diagnosed, but my psychiatrist told me I qualified for a diagnosis and there was just no point in one. When they finally became visible enough that me and my family had to learn about them, my parents were very into the strategy of just never acknowledging or bringing it up when I ticced. I appreciate the idea, but they went a bit too far in that direction. When I tried to bring up the tics myself, to complain or search for support, I’d just be reminded that noticing made them worse and gently discouraged from talking about it.

I’m not mad at my parents. They were trying to do what they thought was best, and they’re better about it all now, but now I’m 20 and still feel shame about thinking too hard about my tics or bringing it up with people. Things like making this post or scrolling this subreddit or acknowledging my own tics make me feel shame because I feel like I’m making myself worse. Whenever my tics are worse for a period, I obviously become more aware of them, which in turn makes me feel like I’m doing something to cause it. Don’t really have a conclusion for this post, just venting :/

Can childhood mental illness be traumatic in itself?

Imperfect flair but I wasn’t sure which to use. Turning to reddit because the only sources I could find were on growing up with a mentally ill parent, but I’m wondering if just developing severe mental illness as a kid can be its own trauma.

I’m 22 now, and I think I’ve been dealing with some trauma responses, but I also feel as if I had a good childhood. I had great parents, good resources, a loving home. I was just mentally ill as a kid. I developed severe ocd and phobias and panic attacks at like 9 from a virus (pandas). I started experiencing suicidal thoughts at like 11. I’ve been on psychiatric meds (snris) since I was 10. I’ve been through like 8 types of therapy in childhood.

I’ve experienced some mild trauma from bad therapists, but my main question is if being mentally ill as a kid can cause some extent of trauma in itself. I don’t think that I have ptsd or anything, I just don’t see this ever talked about.

Any advice for the tics -> social anxiety -> more tics feedback loop?

I assume this isn’t a unique situation for me, but it still messes me up all the time. I have bad social anxiety, and I am constantly getting stuck in the position of having to do something that makes me anxious like talking to a stranger, ticcing, getting more anxious because I was ticcing, and then ticcing worse.

I know that anxiety triggering tics is just like… part of the disorder, but has anybody found any good strategies to help with this. Or even just any ways to feel less anxious about having visible tics in front of strangers? I’ve been in therapy for anxiety, and I’m medicated, but social anxiety has just been a constant figure in my life. It’s gotten better than it used to be, but I don’t think I’ll ever really get rid of it. I don’t know. This might just be a bit of a dumb/obvious question lol.
