Long Post- Seeking Help to protect a child

Has anyone else experienced a family court returning custody or visitation to a parent despite documented admissions of substance abuse and domestic violence or assault?

I'm trying to stay vague for privacy reasons, but I'm involved in a custody case in the Southeast where I have been the primary parent for years. The other parent has had a history of inconsistent involvement, missed parenting time, and significant conflict.

Recently, despite what I believed was substantial evidence, including admissions related to substance use and violence, the court allowed the other parent to regain custody/visitation. I am represented by an attorney, but I left court feeling shocked and honestly unsure of what else I can do to protect my child.

I'm not looking to bash the judge or the other parent. I'm trying to understand:

  • Has anyone had a similar experience?
  • What evidence ended up making a difference in your case?
  • Did anyone successfully appeal or obtain a modification after a decision like this?
  • Are there other avenues I should be discussing with my attorney, such as emergency motions, additional evaluations, or other forms of relief?
  • How did you cope with feeling like the system failed to protect your child?

I understand that courts often try to preserve parent-child relationships, but I'm struggling to understand how serious safety concerns can be weighed and still result in this outcome.

I'm looking for practical advice from people who have actually been through this. Thank you.

Mobile OBGYN Update and Advice Needed

Can someone tell me about Mobile Bay OBGYN vs Women’s Health Alliance? I’m not familiar with the hospitals they deliver at, how people like the hospitals, etc.

Mobile OBGYN

Had a scary situation on loosing what was maybe my “mucus plug” and tried to call all morning. It‘s been a longggg 24 hours. Apprently they do not answer the phones anymore. I went in person and I wish I got her name but the front desk girl got me in with Riis for an immediate problem OB appointment. Johnston is my usual doctor.

Johnston and Riis are the only doctors I have experience with at this practice. (Landed here after Plessala) I REFUSE to see anyone in Baldwin County….I have had four losses with incompetent Baldwin county providers. I digress.

As for Riis and Johnston… they are both amazing. also, if you are their patient, they have both found new jobs at Mobile practices.

I will either follow Dr. Johnston or go with Dr. Riis when I do more research on the hospital and groups they will now be affiliated with. Such a horrible situation for all the employees and patients regardless of stage of life. Being a woman and finding a doctor you like is hard enough. If anyone has further information about the hospitals, they are going to be working at or birth experiences please let me know.

Coming to update- “lost mucus plug” at 14 weeks- everything is fine after doctor visit

update- I lost a giant glob of mucus that in all Google searches looked like a mucus plug yesterday at 5:00pm. no bleeding, no pain, no severe cramping but I was still loosing my mind.

went to the ob office and got an immediate problem appointment. she said it did resemble a mucus plug. babies heartbeat is fine and my cervix is high and closed.

she said it’s an unexplained phenomenon and there were other factors like sex and vaseline (I am idiot) she said to switch to coconut oil.

she also advise that out of caution anytime this happens preterm it‘s best to get a cervical exam to rule out cervical incompetence.

Who knows if the truth will ever come out but did she do the NIPT testing? idk if skeletal dysplasia would show but they said they knew he had kidney problems. did she do amniocentis? it’s just really hard to believe the level of medical neglect.
