Guarantor help (QLD,AUS)
In late 2025 two of my close friends needed a place to rent but were both unemployed or full time at uni. In order for them to have a better chance I offered to be a guarantor on their lease since they both assured their jobseeker/youth allowance payments would cover the rent and it did.
But after 5 months of living together they had a major falling out and could no longer stand living together.
Person A moved out first and he informed the real estate who have now removed him from the lease.
Now one month later Person B has informed me she can’t find anyone else to live with her and will need to move out now. (Persona A also could not find anyone else willing to live with B)
So how fucked am I?
I fully understood covering rent arrears if they ever did fall behind but I can’t find anything solid about whats going to happen to the rest of the tenancy. Am I covering the total rent for the rest of the tenancy? Or is it just a few weeks compared to how much of the lease has expired? I paid the bond originally as well so will they just take that ti make up for any lost money?
I’m not looking for people going “haha you dumb fuck thats what happens” I know already alright I simply put my trust and money into the wrong people but now I don’t know what to do. Any advice would help please.
