Am 56 year old woman, saw Sombr at Climate Pledge in Seattle

It was my son’s 24 year old birthday weekend, and we both really like Balu Brigada but neither of us were big Sombr fans. So we didn’t go as Sombr fans, but we left as Sombr fans.

I loved his messaging about body positivity, I think that’s so important especially when you’re a man and have legions of teenage girl fans. “If you have ever looked in the mirror and hated what you saw looking back at you, I want you to know there’s nothing wrong with you. You are not an accident. You are perfect as you are. You are beautiful as you are”. Shit damn near made me cry. And his fan engagement! He spent time hugging as many people as he could, and he looked SO happy when he was going through the crowd greeting his fans. Great show.

Best part happened after it was over. Was waiting for my kid to come out of the bathroom. A group of 5-6 teenage girls walked by and they were all actively sobbing. Mascara running down to their kneecaps sobbing.

Of course the mom in me came out and I’m like omg are you girls ok? Through their tears they said yes. Bringing up the rear was a woman about my age and friends, she looked TIRED. And she says “They’re with me. They’re fine. They’re sad the concert is over” lol. I still fear they may never recover.

My son is mad that he has to like Sombr now. He got not one but THREE shirts haha.

Advice on more engagement for a 501c3 rescue?

Please note: I will NOT name the rescue and I am not trying to plug or promote the rescue here, I know that’s against the rules.

What I AM looking for is guidance. I have been volunteering for this rescue for several years. The owner/CEO is almost 70. She has almost 30 horses, who are very loved and well cared for. Each horse is checked physically daily for any potential problems. Their individual diets are constantly tweaked based on their needs. They all receive great farrier care on a firm schedule.

She gives lessons, she gives therapeutic lessons to kids with severe disabilities, vets with PTSD, etc. Recently they even got a 90 year old veteran in a wheelchair and on oxygen on a horse as part of his final bucket list.

But she also gives lessons to anyone who wants them. She hasn’t raised her lesson prices in decades-$25 a lesson. The barn is full of kids and adults who volunteer, they can do chores and learn horse care in exchange for lessons. But honestly if they can’t afford the lessons she’s giving them the lessons anyway. She truly believes anyone, adult or child who wants to ride should be able to ride. She’s fond of saying “this barn is run by old women and children” lol.

They are a community treasure in the truest sense of the word.

Here’s the rub- she’s obviously not at all adept with social media, and it doesn’t seem like the people running the social media are either. They have a facebook and a TikTok and get VERY little engagement. Not a single person, not her and not her board of directors takes a salary. They’re entirely supported by donations. They do have a silent auction every year that does quite well.

This brings me to my question. I want to help the social media accounts get real engagement, as I know that brings in more donations and supporting 30 horses correctly is expensive af.

Can anyone offer any advice, please? If you do this sort of thing (social media promotion and whatnot), HOW do you do it? How do you get more viewers and likes and shares?

I would not be asking this if I didn’t believe so strongly in what they do, and hadn’t seen for myself the way every single horse gets such individual attention and amazing care, even when short on money. I want to help and I feel this is the best way I can help.

Please give me your tips and tricks. Are there maybe specific influencers whose attention I need to get?

Thank you all in advance 🙏

Help for a small herding dog?

Not my dogs! Posting for a friend! Small 25ish lb border collie needs IMMEDIATE emergency placement, she is in Gresham. Pup is female, around 8, very soft and smart. Probably around 25lbs so on the smaller side.

I canNOT take this pup for my friend-my existing female dog won’t allow another female in the house, and our house is small and no time to plan. This pup needs a place to go today if possible, tomorrow at the very latest

Songs that you dislike at first, but develop a taste for after a few listens

Is there a name for this? Closest thing I can think of is “acquired taste”, which I generally associate with food.

I have found that often I don’t like a song when I hear it the first time. But suddenly after 4-5 listens I’m jamming to it

A personal recent example for me is Dracula by Tame Impala. I pretty much hated it, but now turn it all the way up if it comes on.

Do you have personal examples? If so, what are they? Also, if anyone knows a specific name for this phenomenon that would be cool

Vintage 80s Ralph Lauren/Polo wheely suitcase (coolest pic at the end)

Zipper broke on my suitcase while visiting family.

I found this amazing huge Ralph Lauren/Polo vintage one for $25.

This thing is so unbelievably well made and solid. It’s wide, so that it can hold fancy suits or dresses. It has so many individual pockets, and toiletry bags, etc.

But the BEST part is that when I looked in the address tag this business card was in it. This thing belonged to a biodefense analyst for chemical and biological threat awareness programs for the US department of energy. I looked him up and he’s still very much active, I can’t stop wondering how many top secret phone calls this suitcase must have been present for.

I am absolutely obsessed with that sort of thing.

Remember when aerobics were all the rage? My sister and her husband both taught aerobics for years. In fact that’s how they met

The tights, the leg warmers, but most importantly all the aerobic studios had huge plate glass windows where anyone walking by could see everything. I remember men leering. I remember teenagers laughing at some of the women in there.

wtf were they thinking when they designed them that way?

A lot of gyms had the same, with some of their exercise equipment right up front

Hi!

So, my husband and I are in our late 50s and have both used LSD off and on since the mid 80s.

So anyway, pretty experienced with psychedelics.

That said, it’s been a few years for both of us since we’ve dropped,

So we decided to drop this last Sunday. We each took a geltab around noon.

Man it was such a beautiful day. The skies were impossibly blue. The trees and the whole forest, and the river we live on were all breathing, and everything was just full of spring life.

We spent a few hours outside just watching the birds and trees. Then came back inside as the peak started to hit.

We were on the couch listening to music. And we both jumped up at the exact same moment, because the fucking house was on fire. The entire living room was full of thick smoke. We both came up out of our chairs and started looking for the fire. We opened all the doors and windows and prepped the dogs to evacuate.

But. There was no fire. We checked the oven. Every heater. We inspected everything fully and were absolutely ready to GTFO.

As we both realized there was no actual smoke, I started thinking it was some kind of entity or something instead. I made my husband break out the smudge stick. We smudged our house and ourselves, and told whatever it was to leave and never come back

And the smoke disappeared. It was so freaking strange, because we didn’t clue each other in on it or anything. So it definitely wasn’t the power of suggestion, because we noticed it simultaneously.

Anyway, I have no earthly clue what the fuck that thing was we sat.

Anyone else ever have a similar experience?

Hi neighbors!

I live in Sandy, and will be grabbing an Amtrak Wednesday morning at 6:45AM to see my college kid and sister in Bellingham/Seattle

That’s pretty early for me. I’m hoping to find someone who lives in pdx proper to rent me a bedroom, bedroom only, for Tuesday night, that’s accessible to public transport so I can grab my Weds AM train in time.

I’m just an old 56 year old professional liberal Gen X chick. I am quiet. I am pretty funny. I will probably just arrive at your place around 7pm, take an edible, go to sleep and be out of your hair before 6am

Any takers? Obviously very happy to pay for your spare bedroom for the night.
