Went to ER. Triage nurse was worried about afib, but EKG was normal?

36 female significant family hx of heart disease (father had heart attack in his 40s and died of cardiac arrest in his 60s / uncle has pacemaker)

I've been having heart flutters and the feeling of my heart stopping then restarting with a hard BOOM. Happens more often these days, at least daily.

Anyway, Telehealth told me to go to the ER. The triage nurse took my BP and heart rate and such and said she was worried about afib. I got a quick EKG, which was normal.

So, we've ruled out afib, right?

What exactly is SSPX's beef with Vatican II?

I don't really get it, and I guess I'm looking for an "explain it to me like I'm 5." Surely, this whole thing can't just be because the mass is no longer in Latin, right?

I saw some people defending SSPX saying Vatican II made the Church too worldly and liberal but, like, the Church isn't liberal. What exactly has changed other than the Latin Mass? Teachings regarding gay people and the role of women haven't changed, so what has their feathers all ruffled up?

I knew it. This new virtual care is going to be a sh*t show

Looks like this new healthcare is just re-packaged 811, in my opinion.

You answer a couple of questions online and this automated system tells you whether you can get an appointment or not. Otherwise, they instruct you to "see a provider" or go to walk-in, which is useless if you don't have a provider or a walk-in.

Need blood work or refills? Have to call 811 instead and, as the person running the government FB page told me, "they'll decide whether a virtual appointment is the best option." Excuse me?? For some of us it's the only option!! I'm not waiting in the ER for 12 hours to get bloodwork or refill my script.

I feel like they're just trying to cut corners and save money, and they'll be scheduling as few virtual appointments as possible. Everyone else will be redirected.

Edit: at what point do people get pissed enough to protest?

Edit 2: I messed around with their required symptom checker to see which symptoms would warrant a virtual appointment. Cough? Go to walk in or PC. Stomach ache? Walk-in or PC. Occasional heart palpitations? Walk-in or PC. Sinus pressure? Congrats! You can book an appointment!

Edit 3: per comments on the government FB page, at least one person has been told they need to go to a clinic for their prescription renewal.

Got under eye filler today and it looks subtle and amazing!!! I'm still panicky because of horror stories.

36 female with genetic hollows and very high/prominent cheekbones

They got worse in my 30s and I started to look super tired. Finally went today and wasn't sure what to do. She suggested a very minimal amount of under eye HA filler.

She was very very conservative with it. Not even a full syringe total (she put the rest on ice). She did test my skin firmness first to see if I'd be a candidate, and she used a cannula. She's been doing fillers since 2005 and owns three clinics so despite my hesitation, I went ahead.

It cost me $600 for the syringe, and the results are super subtle, but it has shaved YEARS off my face. My under eyes looked like they did in my 20s, still a bit hollow, but I wanted just a refresher look.

Anyway, it went well, but now I'm terrified I'll have a complication or it'll go down my face (migrate). It has been an hour. Also, I'm scared to smile cause I'm scared it'll move the filler around and bunch it up.

Can someone reassure me??

Is there a lip plumper with long lasting results?

I love the way my lips look with some plumper. I've only ever tried the ones that burn (vasodilators). However, the plumping lasts like 1 hour if that. Is there one that works longer or that plumps over time?

Did the price go up on the video camera?

I was going to buy the video camera, so I put it in my cart and thought about it for a couple of days. I could have sworn that it was about $240 CAD. Yesterday, I went to buy it, and it was close to $300.

Did the price go up? Or did I just hallucinate the $240 the other day?

New Telehealth provider will not be doing labs or referrals, it seems.

So, eVisit is only ordering labs until the 15th. Based on the government's responses to people in the comments on their latest FB post, the new service will not be providing labs or referrals to specialists. It will provide scripts and refills.

Seems fairly useless.

Anyone else kind of like their cherry angiomas?

I actually like mine. I have a bunch scattered on my torso and a couple on my shoulders. I think they're cute and like the color. I'm pale with copper hair and, I dunno, there's something about them!

I just learned people get these removed. Am I the only one who likes them?

Caroline Cray thoughts??

I just happened upon her account, and I'm wondering if anyone else thinks a big part of her illness is actually a mind over matter thing. I'm not saying she's faking. I just get the impression that these are almost psychosomatic symptoms.

I think it might have to do with this therapy she is doing called NEAT. It's essentially a pseudoscience from what I've read, and her description of her doctor pressing on different parts of her to see where there's resistance because that'll tell her where her fear is based is just plain woo.

I haven't been on her account long enough to know her story well, so I might be completely off base. She does seem sweet, and I hope that whatever the cause of her symptoms (physical illness, psychosomatic, both...) she feels better soon. I just hate how pseudo "doctors" take advantage of people.

My new buddy!!

This is my new buddy. I've been feeding him for a few days in a bowl on my lawn (I provide a bowl of water, too, but he hasn't touched it). I've mostly been giving him cat kibble, leftover wet cat food, and sometimes pieces of boiled egg!

I also left a shiny button for him once, but he had no interest. Now he kind of hangs around near the house a lot.

Questions:

  1. How often do you feed your visiting crow(s)?

  2. Is it possible they get tame enough to eat from your hand?

  3. Possible names?

Hey, so, I f**king hate service work

0/10 would rather tear my own skin off.

I'm tenured. I love teaching! I love writing and publishing! Service work is the bane of my existence, and I just need to vent about it.

I'd honestly rather teach an extra class for no extra pay than do service work. I'm not sure if it's my neurodivergence, but committee work is painful. I don't like working in groups with colleagues. My colleagues are nice people, but I prefer to work independently.

The only service work I can stomach is the grading of language placement tests every semester because I can do it by myself from my laptop and also advising students.

Everything else feels exhausting unless I'm allowed to do it on my own.

Does anyone else love every aspect of their job other than service work? It just seems like SO many hours that could be used towards research, writing, grading, and a student feedback are taken up by pointless committee meetings that could've been an email.

Edit: I do the collaborative service work, guys. I just want to note that because one commenter assumed I'm just trying to make my colleagues do the work. I don't mind the independent stuff. It's the committees and collaboration that feel horribly draining, perhaps because it also requires social dynamics and expectations that are difficult for me to figure out. If I could fill my service hours with JUST independent work like the placement tests and student advising, I'd be thrilled.

Went to a church for the first time in over a decade, and I think I misunderstood the priest?

I have a lot of anxiety surrounding Catholicism. Recently, a family friend passed, I didn't know her well myself but I went to the funeral today along with my mother who lives with my partner and me (she's older) and is a very devout Catholic.

The priest spoke beautifully about how God will judge us mercifully and with love and that all are loved by God.

On the way home, my mom told me she was happy I went. I told her I liked what the Priest said about being judged with mercy and love. She felt the need to remind me that that doesn't count if you die in a state of mortal sin like my partner and me (same-sex) because mortal sin automatically means hell. Basically, I misunderstood what the priest said.

Anyway, I feel very sad because the way I understood the priest made me feel a little less anxiety and to know what I understood isn't the reality just makes me feel worse...

Just my twice yearly "is there anything Hottie yet?" post

Here I am again, Hottie-obsessed and still salty about the discontinuation. I think about it at least once per day, and I'm hanging on to a little baggie of Hottie fragments for dear life. Yes, I'm neurodivergent and no, I won't find another scent I like just as much.

The Lush website is a nightmare to navigate, so I figured I'd ask all you lovely people. Is there anything Hottie scented yet? Last year, someone mentioned a Hottie enfleurage. But, it never came. I think maybe it just wasn't released in Canada!

Please give me good news 😭

How do you feel about the Synod having two gay men speak?

I'm curious what the overall consensus is amongst priests. I recently read that the Synod had two (married but not according to Catholics) gay men speak. I am rather happy about it, but most Catholics I know aren't, to say the very least.

36 female

Went to the ER today (no family doctor or walk-in clinic) because I've had this in my hairline on the nape of my neck for going on three weeks. At first it was itchy but also raw and painful. Now, it's slightly raised and very itchy but doesn't hurt.

No secretions or thick silvery scales at all. I asked about ringworm, but he said he is confident it's not that.

I got prescribed a steroid cream and special shampoo.

I'm a professor, so my work life is horribly hectic, and I don't always meet my fiber needs. I brought myself up to 40g per day last year and then back slid to a very low fiber diet. Now I'm on sabbatical, and I'm back up to about 40g per day most days.

One thing I've noticed is that I feel a sense of calm when I eat more fiber, almost like I've taken some sort of calming pill. I sleep better, too. I first noticed it when I became fixated on bean salads and ate them every night (before I started caring about fiber). Couldn't figure out why beans calmed me, lmao. Now I've realized it's any fiber heavy meal.

Is there any science-backed explanation for this? I don't use supplements and get all my fiber from grains, beans, seeds, vegetables, and fruit.

Just discovered this subreddit today. Hi!!!

I love olive oil, but I've pretty much always stuck to one brand, which is Kriti Gold.

I don't know much about how olive oil is produced. I assume it's all from green olives, but are there different kinds of oils from different types of green olives?

My favorite olive is castelvetrano for how buttery they are. I wonder if an olive oil made from them exists. If so, what would you recommend? Is it as rich as the olives?
