Does scratch through top of game disc always mean a game disc is dead?

I just acquired a final fantasy PS1 collection of almost every game. As a younger guy I’ve only played these through emulation, and not yet original hardware.

I was checking the quality of disc, and most of them are very clean on the bottom for the exception of FF VIII which has bad circular light scratches throughout the whole disk. Also maybe 1 or 2 minor deep scratches on a couple disc, but not deep enough for my finger nail to catch when I light run it over.

Also something else that concerns me is I read online that if the label of disc (top of disc) has scratches than the game data is essentially unreadable, and the game is dead, or some point or another will freeze an not work.

I’ve noticed some of these disc in collection do have these imperfections when shinning light through label side to bottom of disc, and was wondering what the general consensus is on this subject. I have a SCPH-9001 ps1, and heard that they have the best laser out of all the models, and was wondering if this would help with scratches on top and bottom of disc.

Thanks for any information it’s very much appreciated. I would think have such a flaw as a disc being completely bricked by scratches on top of disc would be out of possibility, but hey what do I know I’m a young guy that’s only emulated up to this point.

Does this CRT have Instant on tech?

Toshiba model number MV13L3. Some research online said it does, and some sources says it don’t so I’m confused.

Can someone clear this up for me, because I heard instant on technology wears out your CRT faster.

Question for people who burn CD-R

At around what price did you come about finding a Retro external cd-r writer that writes at x4 with USB?

I’m looking around and only found some for around 75 dollars wondering if there’s more affordable options.

Thanks in advance.

Picked up this Collection on eBay. Satisfied really good deal.

Picked this up for 98 dollars. You can find really good deals on eBay sometimes. I’ve never played tactics looking forward to checking it out.

Looked like this guy had a whole collection of games that he’s selling in bundles. This collection went into good hands. 🫡

My boss gave me old CRT TV, and I’m super stoked! But I have some questions.

I work in a kitchen, and my boss heard me talking about CRTs an he brought this one by for me today. I’m happy af I haven’t had one since I was a kid playing PS2, and watching adult swim late at night.

My questions really that I have is that I was a kid at the time, and didn’t really care or consider about maintenance a general care for the TV. Since this is considered vintage now though I want to preserve it as long as I can.

I dusted it off first with a very very wrung out antibacterial wipe not on vent holes, but along the creases to get dust , but accidentally went over a few vent holes. I then decided that wasn’t a very good idea in case liquid got in, but the wipe I used when I squeezed no liquid came off an only moist to the touch.

I then used a dry microfiber towel to dust off the rest. The screen has a what I believe is plastic screen cover, and underneath is glass so I dusted that off to.

The screen cover has one really deep scratch on it, and there is a bunch of smaller scratches all throughout. I was wondering if anyone here had the know how on how to restore it to where the scratches are gone. Online it says you don’t want to use anything harsh as it can mess up the anti glare coating. It also said it defends on material(Plastic/Glass)im pretty sure it’s plastic, but model number is on back of tv, and will have to look into that further.

Also the VCR in the tv doesn’t work. My boss said his wife’s mom said it was eating tapes. I talked to my dad about it, and he showed me what he called (rollers) that moves the tape around an he said to rub those off with a q tip, and rubbing alcohol. I’m not sure if that could be the issue, but I’m gonna try that an see if it fixes it eating tapes.

Any advice and tips are very much appreciated on the issues I have with the TV.
