Re: Sirius Symboli and Prix Sea Sick (OP)

While combing through the racehorse Mogami's progeny I had to look at his sire Sirius Symboli's racing form over on Wikipedia, which lists these races for his 1986 European campaign:

Processing img 3468bo6e75kh1...

I bring your attention to a May 6, 1986 2000-meter Open-level race named "Prix Sea Sick" (シーシック賞), held at Saint-Cloud racecourse, where ridden by Éric Legrix (who had previously ridden him for the Prix du Prince d'Orange on September 15 the previous year), he finished third behind a horse named Tilt.

Notice the lack of attribution. It being assigned an Open-level designation, despite the fact that even in 1986, the lowest level of Group designations available for French horse races was Listed. Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Listed.

That would've been fine, if I had been able to track down what this "Prix Sea Sick" was. Who "the racehorse Tilt" was. If any races over 2000 meters of soft ground had been held on May 6, 1986. If I could find any other horses who participated on the same race that day. Even just another detailed list of the participants, conditions, and other relevant information on the same race held before or after 1986.

No luck.

Since there was no attribution I could find on English Wikipedia, I checked Japanese Wikipedia, despite my lacking working knowledge of Nihongo. All I could find was this:

Processing img 4mtm29a9c5kh1...

Same lack of attribution, but this time the race was held at Longchamp instead of at Saint-Cloud. Nothing I could find online.

Let's try Japanese netkeiba, surely it's more comprehensive!

Processing img w0qzpnxke5kh1...

That's fine, let's click "Past Seasmic Awards"! (Oh, machine translation.)

Processing img pfqqzmzle5kh1...

Check JBIS!... which only lists down the six most recent races Sirius Symboli was a part of. Hahahahaha.

Dammit, keibalab!

Processing img 57shvovij5kh1...

... ahonoora!!!

Processing img fnw9v0stj5kh1...

Perhaps if I check for any information on the origins of the race, who it was named after, when it was first held... no, nothing. Pedigree Query turns up four horses, one of whom a user apparently forgot to add the details, the others British or American, and the last a French horse who apparently was foaled in 1905 and competed in two important races, the end.

Perhaps if I check for the race record or stallion record of the apparent Prix Sea Sick winner Tilt... no, haha, of course not. Nearest damn thing I could find was apparently a participant in the July 1986 Grand Prix de Lyon, but nothing at all to indicate that he participated in a horse race earlier that year.

Sigh.

I guess I'll have to write France Galop anyway (request for further information on this Prix Sea Sick, request for a detailed breakdown of all races in France Sirius Symboli was a part of [participants, prize money, finish times, jockeys and trainers, so on and so forth], request to have their answer be used as future reference material, etc), but perhaps there's anyone here on this sub who can supply even anecdotal information not derived from Japanese sources?

Re: Hopeful Stakes

Not sure how to flair this -- not even sure why I should be posting this, if not for the fact that I'm seemingly IP-banned from editing Wikipedia despite not having an account there -- but anyway.

From a post that made note of the most prolific stallions who did not stud at Shadai Stallion Station during their careers, I began to check all available records (mostly at netkeiba in English) of what hopefully will be the 50 most prolific non-Shadai stallions who stood at stud in Japan once I'm done (though it seems I won't be able to finish it in a week, lmao). It seems that there has been a point of confusion about the Hopeful Stakes that needs to be clarified.

The English (and Japanese) Wikipedia page of the Hopeful Stakes takes note that the current GI Hopeful Stakes race had a history as follows:

  1. Radio Tampa Hai Sansai Himba Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 1600m, 2-year-old filly-only, 1984-1990]
  2. Radio Tampa Hai Sansai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 1991-2000]
  3. Radio Tampa Hai Nisai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 2001-2005]
  4. Radio NIKKEI Hai Nisai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 2006-2013]
  5. Hopeful Stakes (GII) [Nakayama, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-filly-only, 2014-2016]

Imagine my confusion when, while checking up the races a certain progeny of Brian's Time named Meiner Charles participated in, it emerged that he had ran in and won the 2007 Hopeful Stakes, a 2000m Nakayama open-level turf race, seven years before the GII Hopeful Stakes.

So there was a Hopeful Stakes before 2014? Turns out there was, and the timeline explained on both Wikipedia pages got a lot messier.

I then checked the talk page of the English Wikipedia page for the Hopeful Stakes. In it, a user named Rai-knightshade explains that not only did Nakayama racecourse have a race called the Hopeful Stakes before 2014, but that it was held as an open-level race for 2-year-old colts and fillies in late December from 1984-2013, "before it was seemingly merged with the Radio Tampa Hai Stakes" (their words).

Perhaps it should be easier to surmise that the Radio NIKKEI Hai Nisai Stakes was discontinued after its 2013 run due to the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes being moved to Hanshin from Nakayama? That way the timeline is resolved like this:

  1. Hopeful Stakes (OP) [Nakayama, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-filly-only, 1984?-2013]
  2. Hopeful Stakes (GII) [Nakayama, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-filly-only, 2014-2016]
  3. Hopeful Stakes (GI) [Nakayama, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-filly-only, 2017-present]

While the Radio Tampa/Radio NIKKEI Hai races go like this:

  1. Radio Tampa Hai Sansai Himba Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 1600m, 2-year-old filly-only, 1984-1990]
  2. Radio Tampa Hai Sansai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 1991-2000]
  3. Radio Tampa Hai Nisai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 2001-2005]
  4. Radio NIKKEI Hai Nisai Stakes (GIII) [Hanshin, turf, 2000m, 2-year-old colt-and-gelding-only, 2006-2013; discontinued after 2013]

In any case, I was only able to track down the participants of the open-level Hopeful Stakes from 1988 onwards on both Japanese and English netkeiba (search results on English netkeiba take you as far back as 1993, and on Japanese netkeiba as far back as 1988), and can't confirm or deny if there were any races named "Hopeful Stakes" held at Nakayama racecourse between 1984 and 1987. If there are any who can check that out with more than just garbage-tier Nihongo and update the Wikipedia pages accordingly, please do.

In the meantime, here's a short list of all participants for the Hopeful Stakes between 1988 and 1992, as listed by netkeiba (both English and Japanese), with winner in bold and trailers from left to right. It's not terribly detailed, but at least it won't be as confusing, and hopefully while the Wikipedia pages for the Hopeful Stakes remain unfixed, this will serve as the closest thing to a reference.

1988: Wonder Nerby, Mogami Sahibaba, Meiner Brave, Anchorage City, Super One, Grand Pit, Kurano Hakuryu, Dorotheas, Kikuka Wonder, Matsue Rubens, Lordly Knight

1989: Premier, Hashino Kenshino, Taifu Oza, Meiner Witz, Sakura Long O, Rikisan Silver, Travertine, Olympia City

1990: Sakura Yamato O, Shako Grade, Symboli Forte, Asakichi, Yuwa Teio, Inter Mirage, Mejiro Tiffany, Dance Action, Onward Pharaoh, Glow Phantom, Idol Make

Just got hired for a job, but I'm short of money to tide it through the month, especially as my new workplace is located on the southern part of the region that I'm working in and I'm located on the far north, so expenses for commuting are prohibitive.

I don't want to update to Windows 11. Is there any way to disable auto-updates forever?

I've tried everything I could find to keep the update bug away: registry keys, services app, everything I could find. Nothing has stuck, and now it's gonna force an auto-update within the next few days again. I don't want to switch to a Linux distro. Help!

I'm willing to sell my Genshin Impact account (or Asia server).

Not sure how to proceed with this, tbh, but I have an account that I haven't been able to play at all since Natlan; unfortunately, the room it has needed to be accommodated has outpaced the available space for my phone, and playing it on PC has been next to impossible for me. So rather than be stuck with an account and characters I can't play, I'm selling it. Please let me know how much you're willing to pay for these:
