What kind of linkage / hinge mechanism could achieve this movement?

I’m designing a freestanding cabinet that, when closed, should look like a compact solid volume, roughly 60 × 60 cm, with all sides visually closed.

When opened, the different box elements should unfold and become aligned next to each other, almost like a flat panel, revealing the entire interior of the cabinet, as shown in my sketch.

I’m currently trying to understand the best mechanical system to achieve this transformation from closed → fully open. I was looking at cantilever toolbox linkages, articulated arms, four-bar linkages, telescopic mechanisms, etc., but I’m not sure what type of linkage would allow the boxes to follow the required trajectory and end up completely aligned.

Does anyone know a specific hinge, linkage mechanism, articulated arm system, or existing reference that could achieve this kind of movement?

How would you make bends like these in metal tubing?

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner and I'm trying to recreate this lamp as a DIY project.

The tubing has several angled bends like the ones in the photo, and I'd like to keep the tube round without flattening it too much.

I don't currently own any specialized metalworking tools (no tube bender, mandrel bender, etc.).

How would you make bends like these?
Could this be done with simple tools, or do I really need a proper tube bender?

Photo attached.

Thanks!
