All those videos of Indian factories with poor safety are ads for the western industries to move there

They show how cheap it is to make stuff in their factories where workers are not provided with basic workplace safety so western companies can cut their costs by exploiting those workers

Is there a name for the Meridian going through Bering's Straight ?

Unless I'm wrong (I very well can be) it is the longest meridian going all the way from north pole to antarctica without touching land. It seems quite notable. Is there a name for that ?

Is the difference between the original meter if 1793 and the latest SI definition important?

I talked about the definition of the meter and the subsequent measures (a gram is a cm³ of water etc) to a group I guided through a French Revolution walking tour, explaining that the metric system was based on easy to observe and replicate phenomenon from which where derived several units.

I also explained that nowadays, the ease to replicate had been replaced with precision of the object measured. When asked about the difference (would a meter of the revolution be the same as a meter nowadays) I got a bit stumped. I said I didn't knew exactly but I'd guess the new measurement tried to stay as close as possible to the original length, but saying that I felt like it was a bit more arbitrary, like trying to find the work-around to reach the answer we decided beforehand, or, to say it in another way, try to find the exact thing whose measurement would give something as close as possible to the original meter.

Now I am a historian, specialist of socio-political history, and in no way a physicist. So I wonder if the way to measure things in the International System led to major changes in our understanding of measurements and their applications in daily life (something tangible for everyone, like the height of a building for example)?

[PC] Catastrophe Simulator

I like the sentiment of urgency, the need for precision, adaptability and tactical thinking. I am looking for :

Plane crash sim

Firefight simulator

Evacuation simulator (military/fantasy/horror)

Regaining control of a chaotic situation

The main game loop I envision would be : briefing-preparation-FUBAR Situation-Doing your job best you can while surviving-just a bit of calm for you to enjoy your success

Dynamic generation would be a plus

Thank you !

Due to humans being largely bipedal and not having long and strong arms like tree climbing apes, I was wondering why evolution kept armpit sweat glands so efficient, so prone at giving away water to refresh the body, considering we keep our arms along our body the vast majority of the time, trapping this sweat instead of letting it evaporate to cool us down? Wouldn't a larger sweating in more exposed areas like torso, neck or back, or even on the forearms @be more efficient?

This question is maybe a bit anthropological, but was there a time period during which human communities get so separated (maybe post ice age?) that a community could not entertain contact with an other one for enough time to think there was no other humans on earth? The question stems from the numerous endonyms calling a group "the humans" or similar names, but also from my instinct that communities being built from outcrops of previous communities, it seems unreasonable that no contact at all could occur?
