Need great recommendations please

I’ve already read a few like 100% match, the bug collector, love you to bits, on behalf of all women, roll for initiative, etc.

But I feel some lack in the horror aspect or fail to build a good story and seem to be gore just for the heck of it. I’d love some recs that are well written and still deliver that horror content. For example, the bug collector is a 5/5 for me personally.

(Shorter books if possible, I’m currently trying to get
out of a reading slump.)
