I need to get several new clematises in fall or spring to replace some of my Lowe's and Walmart varieties that died. I want to get a bit more selective instead of just buying what's on the shelf at the box stores. Where have you had good experiences buying from online?
Iceberg Climber, zone 6a. I just planted this about 9 days ago, purchased from Heirloom. There's a dark area on the bottom of the right-hand cane. The left cane grew buds and started to leaf out right away. The right side is leafing out much more slowly, which I wouldn't worry about, except the dark patch at the bottom of the cane is also worrying me. Should I do anything about this or leave it alone?
I saw part of a cartoon at a party when I was a kid, maybe in the late 80s or early 90s. It was a standard hero's quest story. I think the protagonist was a guy with curly brown hair (might have been a hobbit-type creature? But maybe a regular human?) There was a scene where he was in some kind of mushroom world, maybe inside a hollow tree, and a huge crowd of mushrooms were angry at him and pulsating towards him to disco music. Does anyone recognize this? I want to know if it was real or some kind of created memory from a dream or something.
I'm struggling with Japanese beetles for the first time, and nothing I've tried has gotten rid of them. Despite spraying, the bees are also doing great. In fact I just flicked a beetle off my John Davis rose that was buzzing with bees. Has anyone here actually succeeded in getting rid of them? And can it be done in a pollinator-safe way?
I bought this labeled as Parfuma Summer Romance, but I'm not sure that's what it is. The color is much closer to peach than PSR's true pink, and the blooms don't have as many petals and aren't as big. It doesn't have much (or any) scent, although I know roses need to get established before they have much scent. Anyone know what it is?
I grabbed a bunch of seeds off all my clematises and stuck them in the ground in places where I needed more clematis. I later found out they need to stratify in the cold, but this one sprouted up the same spring that I planted it (this year). I just want to make sure I'm not lovingly raising a weed.
