Startup says Koi security used AI to generate nonsense report flagging it as a Chinese espionage front and ruining its business

And now it's suing. From the story:

"The December blog linked Zoomcorder to the Zoom Stealer campaign, which it attributed to the Chinese threat actor DarkSpectre, via a browser extension identified as 'Twitter X Video Downloader.' According to Robertson [CEO and founder] and the lawsuit, however, this extension doesn’t exist – and Koi “refused to supply information” about the software when MeetingTV requested it."

Seems pretty easy for Koi to win - just show the court the extension.

Narcissistic leadership is the real driver behind 'return to office' demands, one study says

From a Wharton prof: "Because in-person work offers richer channels for controlling and commanding reverence from employees, in their pursuit of authority and admiration, narcissists are likely to resist remote work." In other words - the talk of spontaneity, mentoring, and more productivity are all bollocks.

How the AI bubble could pop and take down the global economy

https://www.theregister.com/ai-and-ml/2026/06/29/how-the-ai-bubble-could-pop-and-take-down-the-global-economy-according-to-the-bis/5263793

I've been somewhat skeptical that the AI bubble popping, alone, will sink the global economy. This report from the Reg says the BIS sees it differently. Thoughts? I always figured it'd be a combination of factors, the world is large, the global economy is massive, and there's a lot of geopolitical nonsense going on at the same time, not the least of which is the maniac in the White House.

Interesting find: Zuck saves Meta bucks by reusing memory from old servers with a custom CXL ASIC

Meta is recovering DDR4 memory from old servers, installing it in new machines, and using a custom Compute Express Link (CXL) ASIC to share the memory across applications – without encountering latency problems.

The social networking giant calls its tech "Vistara" and will present it at ISCA 2026 on Monday, but The Register found the company's paper ahead of the talk.

AI coding agents could soon cost more than the developers using them

The AI revolution threatens to stall out because of basic economics. LLM makers can't continue subsidizing usage forever, but companies are suddenly finding that paying full price isn't worth it. Meanwhile, there's growing competition from lower-cost open source and Chinese models. Tough times ahead...

Mythos discovers 'Squidbleed,' a memory leak that's gone undetected since Clinton era

Twenty-nine years old! I maintain that while LLMs are going to make zero-days more common, in the long run they'll lead to better security - better to know about the flaws and fix them than to have them linger. Security by obscurity - never works!

Google found liable for bad AI Overview results. Let’s play Truth Or Consequences

Normally, search results don’t make the search engine liable for what it digs up. These results weren’t dug up, they were made up. Normally, if a page returned by a search engine contains legally actionable material, you can go after the page's author. Here, there were no such pages. The author was Google’s own AI. No escaping it, the court decided, someone had to be liable and that someone was Google.

49 [m4m] #SF - bucket list bottom

Mostly straight guy who’s discovered his bi side in the last couple years, and would now like your help crossing a bucket list item off my list: I’d like to bottom for a patient and understanding top.

I’m not picky about age or race, as long as you’re in decent shape, not too hairy, have a decent sized cock, and can host. You’ll have to use a condom or show me a really recent test. Particularly into other bi or mostly straight guys who are experimenting or finding themselves too.

We’ll exchange pics first but not looking to chat endlessly. I’m in good shape, not hairy, with a nice 7” to play with as you fuck me silly.

Let’s do this!

[For sale] Gish original UK pressing, Sturgill Simpson, many others - SF Bay Area local

I'm clearing some clutter and selling some of the hundreds of LPs I've collected over the past decades. ALL PRICES ARE NEGOTIABLE, but I have researched comps on Discogs and eBay so know what they are worth. But if you see something you like, please make me an offer. Or, take them all home at once for a significant discount. UPDATE: THIS IS FOR LOCAL BUYERS IN THE SF BAY AREA TO WHOM I CAN DRIVE. UPDATING PRICES TO REFLECT SMALLER MARKET.

I would love these to find homes with people who will actually listen to them.

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish - original UK release 1991, Hut label, barely played - $80 (compare https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=48660&format=Vinyl&year=1991)

Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, played once - $50 (compare https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=690603&format=Vinyl)

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible, barely played - $20
Animal Collective - Centipede hZ, played once - $20
AVTT - PTTN (Avett Bros and Mike Patton), nearly new - $20
Beck - Colors, red vinyl, barely played - $20
St Vincent + David Byrne - Love This Giant - barely played - $20
Everclear - Wonderful 7" on yellow vinyl - barely played - $10
Faith No More - Sol Invictus - played once - $20
Future Generations - Landscape - barely played - $20
The Homesick - The Big Exercise - barely played - $20
Lard (Jello Biafra + Ministry) - Last Temptation of Reid - original release in good shape - $20
LCD Soundsystem - self titled - barely played - $20
Man or Astro-Man - Expreiment Zero - barely played - $20
Man or Astro-Man - Eeviac - barely played - $20
David Matthews (not Dave Matthews) - The Grodjeck Whipperjenny - barely played - $20
REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi - barely played - $20
REM - Up - barely played - $20
Tweedie - Sukierae - triple album, barely played - $30
Wilco - Ode to Joy - barely played - $20

I also have quite a bit of older vinyl in good to very good shape that I wouldn't mind getting rid of for $1 or $2 per album -- Eric Clapton, Firesign Theatre, and so on. Happy to discuss.

Flaw in Surface hardware allowed unprotected devices to be bricked with a single packet

According to Jack Darcy, a security researcher based in Australia, his instance of Microsoft Copilot stumbled across the bug after being asked to adjust the screen backlighting on a Surface device. The Copilot-conjured Python script ended up rendering the researcher's laptop inoperable by overwriting the embedded controller firmware.
