XF-85 Goblin Refurbishment

Visited the Strategic Air Command Museum in Ashland, Nebraska this last week. Their XF-85 Goblin is being refurbished, one of only two built. The other is in the US Air Force Museum.

They are also refurbishing an RAF Vulcan bomber right now.

Strategic Air Command Museum - Ashland, Nebraska

Took my son to the Strategic Air Command Museum in Ashland, Nebraska yesterday. The F-117 Nighthawk has just gone on display. It is very interesting what components are missing from it, as they are still secret. They are refurbishing one of the few XF-85 Goblin parasite fighters and an RAF Avro Vulcan bomber right now. Some additional photos of their collection are included.

Remembering Hank

Hank crossed the Rainbow Bridge this last weekend after a decade of filling our lives with love. I’m comforted that he is with his sister Lily again, who we all have missed the last two years. They were four-time foster dogs who finally found a forever home with us. I was truly blessed to love and be loved by these amazing dogs.

Sam - My Ginger Polydactyl

Sam was rescued from being a barn cat by my Mother-in-Law. When she retired to an RV, Sam did not like it, so he came to live with me. He has thumbs on both front paws, with one paw split almost into two paws (his “mitt”). He has a big heart and a small brain, and is the cuddliest of my cats.

Pumpkin - The Spicy Ginger

Pumpkin has lived with me for about three years. I rescued him and his owner (my daughter’s GF) from an abusive household. He has shredded most of my furniture, but has stopped swiping at my ankles when it is feeding time. He’ll even occasionally snuggle with me. I refer to him as Punk. He is our spicy Ginger, whereas Sam is our meek Ginger (both in last photo). Despite Pumpkin’s spiciness, he is utterly dedicated to his “Moms” and is a (mostly) good boy.

Arthritis Advice for Golden Pyr

Hank is around eleven (he was a rescue originally brought in by animal control, so just age estimate). I got his weight down over the past few years from close to 140 at his max down to around 110, as I knew this day would likely come. He has one leg in particular that has increasingly bad arthritis. He’s got a glucosamine/condroitin supplement, fish oil supplement (primarily for skin issues), and is on Librela injections. We also have Rimadyl to help with pain on the bad days.

His quality of life is still good most days. He does limp a varying amount, but we’re trying to keep the pain under control and do what we can to help with the arthritis. His sister passed away two years ago after a hard-fought battle against a brutal drug-resistant infection for several years. I don’t want to repeat that experience for him, me, or my kids.

Anything in particular that helped your arthritic Pyr pup?

Pup Tax photos attached.

Minnie - Blue Tortie

Minnie Peanut Butter - (Mi Mi, Min Min)

Minnie is a blue dilute tortie rescued from running wild in a trailer park about four years ago She was malnourished and oddly pear-shaped when found, but with care and love is now fluffy, stout, and a bit plump. She is my daughter’s emotional support animal and very loving. She gets along with the three other cats and is in love with the dog.

Sam, my Polydactyl Ginger

Sam was originally rescued by my Mother-in-Law from his life as a barn cat. When she retired to live in an RV, he did not like it, so I took him in. I’d cat-sit him before, so he knew my family and the other cats.

He is a an approximately 12 year-old polydactyl cat with thumbs on both front paws and one paw that is actually the beginning of two paws (he has eleven toes on that paw).

He is often timid, but loves intensely. Drools when happy and snores like a chainsaw.
