What do you think of Casey X Waits?
Tom's son Casey definitely has an eclectic music output!
What do you all think of his music and his current upcoming release 'Smoking Tigers'?

Do you take pride in your work?
Forget the money, your input is what I'm talking about.
Explain if you do and why?
Looking for jazz records where rhythm was the big innovation, like Time Out by Dave Brubeck. Odd time signatures, polyrhythms, new approaches to pulse or groove, basically albums that genuinely changed the language of rhythm in jazz. Any recommendations?
What's everyone's thoughts on the spiritual version of 'Get Behind The Mule'?
Gotta love the lo-fi piano and that handheld field recording vibe.
I've just picked up a record from The Pop Group, For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? and the opening track 'Forces of Oppression' has the same sample of that "vocal/tribe chanting" from Eyeball Kid, Mule Variations. That sample comes from, Ketjat Dance, Balinese Gamelan.
This got me wondering whether Tom was ever influenced by this record. The Pop Group's experimentation came before Mule Variations, and there are some stuff on this album that remind me of some of the textures and experimentation Tom explores in his work.
Wonder if he's ever mentioned them before? As a British fan of TW, this was cool sample to hear on another record.
has Spotify turned down their streaming platform?
Can Romanian speakers explain how phrases like “mânca-ți-aș pizda / curulețul” are used in real life?
Is this always vulgar sexual slang, or can it be playful/affectionate depending on context? Does it carry the same meaning as the literal English translation, or is it more idiomatic in Romanian?
Trying to understand actual usage, not word-for-word translation.
EDIT:
My Romanian partner, said this can sometimes be said by Romanians to their children in an affectionate way. I can’t wrap my head around this!
I've got some Harry Partch, Penderecki and Johnny Greenwood score stuff, curious what everyone else has.
Found a band that I think a lot of you would enjoy being TW fans.
They're called The Dead Brothers.
They ended up releasing some really killer albums, just awesome isntrumentation, experimentation and lyrics.
Unfortunately their lead singer passed and they haven't and probably won't release an album again.
Check them out!
These 3 albums are so good!
Also check out the Voodoo Rhythm label for some other artists
Started collecting records.
I only buy a record if I can listen to it all the way through and love every single track.
Hence, these two!
How weird, experimental, personal and hilarious is the Bastards disc from Orphans.
It's so eccentric. It's like finding Tom in his workshop and peeping in through a cracked window.
Blood bubbles, when they open,
saliva builds, puddles swallowed.
The triangle grips and holds.
Her leaves helix around his trunk,
pulling down his arms,
Careful now.
What was the first TW record you heard, and what did you think of it?
Mine was Tom Traubert's Blues, watched the live performance of it, and the writing, his voice, instant fan.
When the mud is sticky its worse,
but only if there's no water,
I see the cotton stuck to them again as I wipe them clean,
A hand that'll never be, a hand bruised, torn, hardened under the heat.
At least dreams of cotton and wind and landscapes hold it, and we run through, together, and the hands move forward, we fall behind them.
What tracks do you think are Tom's coolest?
I'll go first!
Filipino Box Spring Hog - just killer, never heard anything like it, raw, gritty, like a slap in the face.
I think Swordfishtrombones outshines Rain Dogs!
People often credit RD as the definitive post-1983 Tom Waits statement, but I'd argue Swordfishtrombones has the tighter sonic identity.
I don't agree when an common argument is Rain Dogs is the mature completion of SFT. Swordfish was already artistically and sonically complete on its own terms.
Both are incredible records, but, I feel what Tom achieved with critical acclaim on Rain Dogs was already more coherent, interesting, genre and artistically solidified on SFT.
Let's discuss!
My picks:
Hey folks.
So, were all TW fan's but I'm curious what other artists/bands everyone is listening to!
Myself, I'm really digging C.W Stoneking [seeing him live soon!] also big fan of Captain Beefheart.
