bought gunaho ka devta after wanting it for sometime, and now i want to do something about hindi literature

so this happened like a week back. i finally got my hands on gunaho ka devta , been wanting to read it and somehow never got around to it. read the whole thing in like two sittings. man, dharamvir bharati was something else.

anyway i was heading home from hostel and i gave the book to my grandma because she used to read a LOT back in the day. she loved it obviously but then she said something that stuck with me , she said "hindi sahitya khatam ho raha hai." like not in a dramatic way, she genuinely feels like nobody writes like that anymore. nothing that has that weight you know?

and honestly? i kind of agree but also i don't. like i KNOW there are young people out there who write beautiful hindi. i see them on instagram sometimes, on twitter, random blogs. the talent is there. the problem is there's no proper place for them.

i tried pratilipi and a couple other apps and bhai honestly they feel so cluttered. the UI looks like it was designed in 2015, half the content is unedited, there's no quality control, and the whole experience just feels... cheap? like you open it and you don't feel like you're about to read something special. plus the way they handle writer rights is sketchy from what i've read.

so here's where my brain started going crazy lol. i'm a CS/tech person and i genuinely love hindi literature. what if i actually build something? like a proper platform for hindi , not a pratilipi clone, something different.

the basic idea is:

  • curated serials, not an open dump. think short episodic seasons (like 20-40 episodes, 600-1500 words each) in genres people actually want to read , thriller, romance, horror, city life, dark comedy. stuff that makes you feel like you're binge watching a web series but in hindi text .
  • writers actually own their work. full rights stay with the writer. if their story gets picked up for audio, translation, or god forbid someday a web series adaptation, they decide and they get paid properly. i want to write a straight up "creator rights charter" before i even launch
  • the reading experience should feel premium. beautiful devanagari typography, dark mode, clean layouts, synced audio for people who want to listen on their commute. no ads shoved in your face every two paragraphs
  • a writing tool that actually helps. like an AI (you can toggle on and off fully )that helps with grammar, continuity, pacing , but shows the writer exactly what it changed and they approve everything. not AI writing the story FOR them, just helping them write better
  • voice note to story. my grandma tells the best stories verbally. what if someone could just record a voice note and it helps them turn it into a written draft? that's what i want to build eventually

i know this sounds ambitious and maybe naive but i genuinely feel like hindi literature isn't dying , it just doesn't have a home yet. english has wattpad, webtoon, all these platforms. hindi has nothing that feels worth opening every day.

so what i actually want to ask you guys:

  1. if you read hindi , what kind of stories would make you come back daily? what's missing right now?
  2. if you write hindi , would you actually write for something like this? what would convince you? what has pratilipi or other platforms gotten wrong?
  3. am i completely delusional or does this feel like something that should exist?

not trying to sell anything here, i literally have nothing to sell yet lol. just want to talk to real people before i build something nobody wants. if you're interested in being part of a small early group of readers or writers when i have something ready, drop a comment or dm me.

also if you have hindi book recommendations for someone who just finished gunaho ka devta and wants more , please drop those too 🙏
