As far as I can tell, based on other places I’m pulling chinking out of, this wide mesh/metal strip is original to the house. Aside from laziness, why is this last “log” a bunch of smaller pieces instead of a single log?

Anyways, gonna permachink the hell out of this mess to stop the draft, there are so many spots I can see light coming through from the inside.

I’m not super fond of the step-like pattern I’ll get with the permachink as-is, any thoughts on options for how to finish it looking a little better? Thought about at least planing the difference in heights out between this small pieces… a piece of slab over top when I’m done?
